Hope After 40

I write this story to give others hope. If I can get pregnant, naturally, then anyone can:)
I'm 40 (and a half) and my bf is 45. We both have kids from previous marriages, but, after carefully weighing the risks & fully understanding the odds, we decided to try for a baby. After all, the worst thing that might happen is nothing! Even so, my doc said my chances were slim without meds, due to my age. But I am an eternal optimist! So, in January, 12 years after the initial vasectomy, my wonderful bf had a vasectomy reversal. The doc told us it would be 3 months before viable sperm were present. I tried not to obsess, but I was hopeful each month....Sure enough, on the third month after the procedure, I got a positive!
I know it's early days yet, I'm only 5wks 3 days, but I remain hopeful. I try to temper my worry over MC w the joy & promise of our baby:)
Ladies, I offer this story to give hope to those of us a bit older, a bit sad, a bit weary of this process. There are sometimes not enough joyous stories out there for older women TTC. I submit my story to encourage hope and inspire us to have faith in our bodies and celebrate the love we all have to offer our babies!
The only symptoms I can share are, unfortunately, *exactly* the same as PMS: sore boobs, irritability & fatigue. Mommies-To-Be, have heart! If it's possibLe for a aging, older gal like me, it's possible for you!

11dpiui BFP

TTC: 14 months, 2 failed IUIs (IUI 1: 1 follie, 14mil sperm. BFN) (IUI 2: 1 follie, 19mil sperm BFN)

Me: 30, one ovary, mild PCOS. I take Metformin to help regulate my cycle.
DH: 33, Mild male factor.
*CD1 : ready for a new cycle! After two failed IUIs and an additional month canceled due to a cyst, I was ready to get started.

*CD3-7: Clomid 50mg

*CD11: Two follicles on my one ovary. Both measuring at 10mm.

*CD15: Sono shows that one follicle is 14mm and the other 16mm. Lining is at 9. RE suggests waiting to trigger until CD 17 and to do the IUI on

*CD 19 so that my larger follicle can mature.

*CD16: BD

*CD17: I wasn't supposed to trigger until 9pm, but I got a blazing smiley OPK at 2pm. Called RE and she said "Trigger NOW!" and that it would boost ovulation. IUI moved up a day.

*CD18: IUI at 12:30pm. DH's motile count was 29Mil. Best numbers he has ever had! She did an external ultrasound right after to see that 1) I hadn't ovulated just yet and we didn't miss the egg. 2) that the sperm showed to be sitting and just chilling out ready to go. I put in a SoftCup before I left..ya know...just in case one of those pesky swimmers tried to escape.

*1DPIUI: barely noticeable flutter cramps from IUI. BD

*2-8DPIUI: Nada. Just really tired. But I get randomly tired all the time so it's not really noteworthy.

*9DPIUI: BFN. Kind of crampy. Barely noticeable though. Normal AF signs.

*10DPIUI: BFN. Have a total cryfest breakdown with DH about the possibility of us not being able to have kids for another year because we will have to save for IVF and I just *KNOW* this month isn't going to be it.

*11DPIUI: Woke to AF cramps. Took a Wondfo in AM and thought I might see a shadow. Posted to TWW blog and people said they saw it too, so I ran out to get a FRER for the evening. BFP by 6pm. Kept it secret from DH because tomorrow is his bday! By bedtime I had a huge headache and didn't sleep well. Sore boobs by morning.

*12DPIUI: BFP for sure in the morning! Had my DH open a present with a picture of our dog next to a onesie with the Dallas Stars logo on it (he plays hockey). We are both optimistic an ecstatic! Blood later in the morning had an HCG level of 24. Tender boobs, aversion to coffee smells, and headache are really the only symptoms I have so far.
Honestly, I have had more "symptoms" with BFN months. The only thing I notice now is somewhat tingly boobs, bloating, and headaches, and those are all indicative of AF as well.

My strategies:
-pineapple core plan 1-5dpiui
-Brazil Nuts 1-5dpiui
-peppermint tea/remove caffeine
-eating lots of salad and sweet potatoes
-Softcups after sex and IUI
-Digital OPK instead of wondfo

DH strategies:
-Maca root
-Multi vitamin
-Folic Acid

I am 38 and my husband is 37. We have a 16 Month old son and have been TTC #2 since August 2014. I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility in 2013 and conceived my son after 2 rounds of Clomid. In August 2014 my OB prescribed 3 months of clomid since we were ready to try for baby 2. It did not work. I went back to the fertility Doctor April 2015 and after testing to rule out cysts or polyps l was proscribed Progesterone suppositories 100mg 2 times a day because I was spotting days before and after AF which is not normal. I was too far into my cycle to do anything else. My husband had a sperm analysis done and found out he has morphed sperm. (We did not find this out till after my BFP) I got my smiley face on CD 15, Ovulated according to my chart/temp on CD 16. BD on CD12, 14, 16, 18. Started taking progesterone 5DPO. I took a Dollar Store test 9DPO and it was BFN. Took Clearblue test on 11DPO and got my BFP! Besides my temperature staying up, I knew I was pregnant because of the lack of symptoms. Just because you don't have symptoms doesn't mean you aren't pregnant. Also, this pregnancy so far is very different than my last. My HCG went from 210 to 6000 in a week, I hope it's not twins! Baby dust to all!!

Omg!! Still in utter shock! Holy 11 dpo bfp batman

Like I've read a hundred times on here, I've scoured this site constantly whilst ttc (probably to unhealthy, crazy mad obsessive lady levels - is it normal to add the site as an Internet bookmark? Anyway!). It is so surreal I get to add my own little bit to here!

Me and DH have been ttc for 10 months now. I'm 27 and he's 33,both healthy non smokers and non drinkers. I came off cerazette and initially struggled with luteal phase spotting, cysts (had never happened before but now I had them constantly for months - ouch) slightly short LP (9-11 days). In fact the first few times I had spotting I was convinced it was IB, and felt like a crushed idiot when AF got me.

Add to that, about 4 months ago we found out that DH had a huuuuge varicocele with testicular atrophy (ironic, as the varicocele was so big I had just assumed he was well endowed!). I was devastated after doing some research about it, and resigned myself to thinking I'd need iui or ivf. In fact, he has a sperm analysis booked for this week!

I've never had so much as a whiff of a second line on a hpt in the whole 10 months, although obviously had every symptom going ("honey, I can totally smell that soup you made two days ago, clearly you have impregnated me ") every month.

I know I always read about having way fewer symptoms on bfp months, and this is definitely one of those. So, on to the symptoms (or lack thereof)
Dpo 1-5 nada, zilch. Have a cough I've not been able to shake for a week or so, not like me at all to get a cough though I suspect this was unrelated.
Dpo 6 - really strange sharp cramp in the bladder region whilst walking, it seemed to travel downwards and covered quite a big area at once (I put it down to cystitis, not that I had any other symptoms.) (on a related note, ttcers who say "I felt it in my uterus" - seriously how the hell do you know what uterus twinges feel like? How on earth can you tell it's not your bladder or your bowel???)
Dpo 7 zilch
Dpo 8 - 9 weird lumpy painful breasts. I always always always get this about 3 days before AF so this was early. Didn't think much of it as they'd started to hurt early a couple times before. On Dpo 9 I felt a really weird taste in the back of my throat in the morning, almost like a sour taste. Put it down to ongoing cough.
Dpo 10 cough starting to turn into a cold, sneezing and sniffing.
Dpo 11 - for some reason, something made me take an ovulation test in the morning, just for fun. I've done this before AF before and had either stark white or something very faint. But this was pretty dark! (attached). It piqued my interest but did a bit of research and saw that plenty of ladies who had this went on to get AF. Anyway I was convinced DH was shooting blanks so I felt like a moron for even entertaining the idea.
I asked DH to pick me up some NHS tests (he works in a hospital). After a 6 hour hold in the afternoon, I poas, washed my hands, looked down and..... No!!! It can't be. A squinter was there immediately. DH didn't believe it because even as the line got darker, it wasn't as dark as the control line.
So off we went to get a clear blue digital to convince him. Held wee for a couple of hours and lo and behold, pregnant 1-2!!! Also, cough turned into horrible cold with massive inflamed tonsils that are so sore I can hardly swallow. Again, Probably just coincidence

Didn't do anything different this month. Didn't temp like normal didn't pay any attention to cp or cm, didn't use robitussin. Only used balance active conception lube and ovulation sticks. Bd when stick was positive and the day beforehand. Was upset couldn't bd more but DH got sick!

In. Total. Shock. Fingers crossed little embryo likes it in there and wants to set up home for another 8.5 months!

BFP after chemical with male factor problems

Hi Ladies!
So just to summarise our journey, DH and I started TTC Jan 2014...after 7 months we fell pregnant but sadly 2 days after I was due AF I started to bleed...cue early loss. We were devestated. We carried on TTC straight away as luckily I ovulated 2 weeks later. After a year we went for tests, I was all fine but unfortunatly DH was told he had a LSC with poor motility and morphology :-( gutted doesn't come close. According to our GP our previous conception had been 'very lucky', he put the chemical down to the embryo having chromosome abnormalities and we were put on the waiting list to see a fertility expert. However, 9 months after our horrible loss (to the date!) we got our BFP again, last week! Happy times!
I wanted to share my story because I often wanted to ask SO many questions...wondering, will it ever work for us? Are we able to have a normal natural conception? Are we doing enough? Why us???? So to let you know what we did...when we got our first BFP, we were doing EVERYTHING! OPKS, temping, following the SMEP for BD, using preseed, BD in certain positions, me laying for an hour after BD. This time we did, NOTHING! It was genuinely the first month I didn't even think about O day, or temps, or TWW in general..I had just switched off. I was a crazy POAS mess up until this cycle too but this time I waited until AF didn't show before I tested and got a + digi straight away.
I guess my advice is will happen when the time is right (awful cliché I know)...if it can for us, it can for most of you and I wish you every luck and happiness on the world.
One thing to note also...first BFP I felt no different to normal cycles and my tests were only faint and did not get any darker. This time my tests have got increasingly darker and continue to do so and I've experienced cramps, increased appetite and fatigue.
I hope my story helps some of you!

Vasectomy not reversed but now prenant with HCG 1,200 at 2ww!!

33 years ago I had a vasectomy after my 3rd child. Divorced & met my new love 15 years ago who is now 38. I'm now 63 years so it was time to make babies & of the two options it was either reversal or go for IVF. Elected for IVF. Didn't think it was possible but 6 months ago and after 20 minutes in an operating theatre a needle extracted millions of my swimmers. 100% painless, no after effects, bloody amazing. At same time the wife 'went under' & they retrieved 12 eggs. Our 1st try with a fresh 5day old blastocyst grown in the lab made it to 6 weeks with some medication assistance. The HCG at 2 weeks was 140, more good news at 6 weeks HCG was 1,500, BUT we were shattered as it just disappeared at ultra sound at 8 weeks. Our 2nd FET (frozen embryo transfer) ended up a zero result at 2ww. BUT 1 hour ago got the news that our 3rd FET after a 2ww was bloody positive & bloody fantastic. The reason for this post is that it is 1,200 HCG! This was 1 embryo, WTF (that's not an IVF acronym) no drugs, no tablets, no chemicals so does anyone know (other than a negative reason) is this normal? The missus has twins in her second line of cousins on both sides of family tree.

3rd month lucky

DH and I have been married for two years and withdrew use of contraception middle of my cycle in January. I am not counting that cycle though because I knew I had gone past O by the time we started TTC.

First cycle I just tried to time BD using an app. Nothing. AF came as per usual

2nd cycle started to get serious. Purchased fertility microscope, digital OPKs (clearblue advanced) and regular OPKs. The clearblue advanced was a waste of money because I o quite late in my cycle and I ran out of sticks before I ever got peak. I also got 5 days of flashing smileys. No way can I be that fertile right? On the basis of the standard OPKs I estimated I ovulated on CD18-19. I ended up having a 10 day luteal phase that month. Panicked and rushed out to the chemist to buy b6 and vitex

3rd cycle. Started AF on March 15th 2015. Light AF with not much cramps. Started testing with OPKs on CD12. This is the month we implemented SMEP. So we BD C12 EOD until my positive OPK (CD15 from memory?), day of positive OPK, day after, day after that, skipped a day and then went again. I got my BFP on 10DPO (but it was so so faint I didn't believe it until I got one again on 11DPO). Got darker on 12DPO, digital confirmed 1-2 weeks pregnant at 13DPO and the positive was very blazing at 13DPO.

I have had a bad history of period pains and so I had been seeing a gynaecologist who suspected endo. When we started TTC she ran alot of tests including hormone tests. All came back fine (estrogen, LH, progesterone etc). We also had a SA done on my DH. That came back not great. It said 20% motility and only 3% of sperm with normal morphology. Around 3 weeks later I found out I was pregnant. We were expecting it to take ages with DH's sperm issues. It's difficult to say if the doctors got the tests wrong, if we just got lucky or if the SMEP helps. Either way our first bambino is due December 23rd

As for symptoms... NOTHING. I mean nothing unusual/not similar to my usual PMS prior to my positive pregnancy test. I only got any kind of symptoms which I thought were unusual from 10-11DPO. Around 10-11DPO I got sharp pains in my hip, bad back pain, AF type cramps, spotting, fatigue and a weird acidy production from the inside of my cheeks.

In sum:

What I do recommend
-Frequent babydancing. Preferably the SMEP if you can
-Standard OPKs
-Good vitamin regime

What I don't recommend
-Rushing to the doctors for tests too early. Made us panic for no reason
-Digital OPKS (expensive and no merit above standard OPKs)
-Fertility microscopes . Hard to use

Good luck and babydust to all

BFP IVF/ICSI after 5 years TTC!!!

I am 33 years old, no fertility issues have ever been found! Pregnant once (unplanned) 10 years prior with miscarriage @6weeks. I tried for 3 years previously with my ex-husband when we found out he had severe sperm(morphology, count) issues. I've done temping, OPK's, Pre-seed, you name it!!! Fast forward a few years to my current relationship, fiance and I have been trying for awhile when the same issues seem to be arising again! Had a sperm analysis done and his count is EXTREMELY low. Got referred for IVF/ICSI right away. Found the best clinic in Northern California(3 hours away) and got started right away! All of my testing showed great ovarian reserve, uterus and ovaries great, so I was able to donate half of my eggs retrieved to offset the high cost! Had 2 3-day embryos rated AA put back in, embryologist even came in to tell me they looked perfect(no fragmentation). I couldn't believe it was actually my turn to be prego!!!!Stimulation went great and here are my symptoms-

Retrieval Day: Felt great everything went smoothly, rested in the evening and night.
1dp3dt: No symptoms except bloating, went to bed and woke up in the middle of the night with extreme pain in right ovary. rushed to ER and given IV said I had possible ovarian torsion? After about 3 hours of extreme pain it resolved itself? We are still not exactly sure what happen!
2dp3dt:still a little sore in ovary area, no other symptoms. Started progesterone suppositories.
3dp3dt:a little clear discharge.
4dp3dt:slight cramping in uterus(middle area) beginning, no sore boobs, no nausea, energy a little low.
5dp3dt:BFN, cramping continues...
6dp3dt:cramping in uterus, lite discharge, low energy.
7dp3dt:take wondfro, SLIGHTEST faint line almost evap looking. More cramping. No spotting at all!
8dp3dt:BFP!!!Clear but faint line!!! Everyone else sees it very clearly! Cramping intensifies, waves of nausea, slight food aversions. This is the first line out of maybe 300 times I've POAS!!!! Go in for my beta tomorrow!!! Fingers crossed!!!

Severe MFI- Natural Pregnacy turned ectopic

Husbands SA's ranged from zero to 7 million with the average being less than 2 million due to severe varicoceles and high testosterone. We had been trying for 2.5 years and were planning surgery to try to make us eligible for IUI because we were only eligible for IVF with ICSI.

CD:16- O day. Had sex after 5 days of abstinance(he was gone and just got home) and put a soft cup in after because I had one left over and laying around from a year ago that I wanted to get rid of.
1dpo- Typical progesterone triggered constipation and bloating like always.
3dpo- breast tenderness, of course progesterone again.
7dpo- CF yellow tinged which has never happened before. Felt an urgency to have BM's. Morning headaches.
8&9dpo- Same symptoms as 7dpo, but broke out in a rash on my hands(twice). I started becoming obsessed with avocados and started getting AF like cramps at 9dpo.
11&12dpo- my nipples became sore and sensitive, and overall tender breasts. I had extremely light implantation spotting and continued cramps.
14dpo- AF due but not here. I randomly took an hpt for the first time in a year and it was a BFN. I felt like I had just had a period without any bleeding. I was frustrated that I wasn't getting my period because I thought everything was PMS. I assumed I was wrong about when O was.
16dpo- AF still not here, and my nipples are ridiculously sensitive, darkened and enlarged. Something is seriously different this month. Took seven HPTs and all are BFP!
17dpo- Blood test is BFP
19dpo- Beta 211.3
21dpo- Beta 273.6
24dpo- Beta 355.9

4-5 weeks pregnant- Betas rising but not doubling, rate of increase declining. Hot flashes, fatigue(early bed time&naps), up early to eat, mood swings(cried easily) and continued TWW symptoms. Ultrasounds show nothing.
6-7 weeks pregnant- decreased appetite, some mild nausea and same symptoms as weeks 4&5 minus the cramping. Pseudo sac on ultrasound but can't locate gestational sac and baby. Brown spotting that then turned black and red. Progesterone and estrogen dropping.

Received methotrexate injections at 7 weeks pregnant for highly probable ectopic. Started to bleed and cramp an hour later. Passed an enormous sac with a little baby inside. Sent to pathology, pseudo sac gone on ultrasound. Pathology didn't determine anything, doctor is guessing assuming the pregnancy was on my cervix. I have no idea where baby was.

BFP with severe MFI

My husband and I were only candidates for IVF with ICSI due to his severely low sperm count(thanks to varicoceles). We weren't even eligible to try IUI, but we were planning surgery for my husband to help potentially make IUI a possibility instead of IVF/ICSI. His counts ranged from zero to 7 million, with less than 2 million being the average result of an SA.
My husband was gone during the majority of my fertile phase but he came home during the end of it and we DTD on my O day, and after 5 days of abstinence. I put a soft cup in after and I guess it did the trick(after 2.5years of ttc.)
I didn't get a BFP until AF was two days 16dpo. That was 10 days before his surgery. I got a BFN at 14dpo, and I had a teeny tiny amount of implantation spotting 11&12dpo. So always believe in miracles, keep room in your heart for the impossible and even if you get a negative late in your LP remember there's still a chance.

Unfortunately my pregnancy was a cervical ectopic(no rupture or damage to my health thankfully) and was unsuccessful so I don't want to go into my symptoms, but I just wanted to share an incredible success story. Don't ever feel stupid for having some hope in a situation that seems hopeless.
