TTC 18 MONTHS, BFP, PCOS, POOR SPERM MORPHOLOGY & MOTILITY, IUI, Clomid vs. Femara

Writing this post to give hope to those that have both female and male infertility factors. :) This is a long story, so here is a a quick summary if you don't have time to read then entire post: 1. Do not wait a year to go to the doctor if you are having trouble TTC. I have always had irregular cycles, so I knew something was wrong. It was more stressful to not know if there was an issue than it was to know and start down the path to fix it. 2. Do not wait to get a semen analysis done for the same reason as I mentioned above. It's cheap, it's noninvasive, and for most guys, healthy habits can naturally solve this. 3. For better sperm quality, here is the list of vitamins that my doctor prescribed: Vitamin C: 1000 mg/day Vitamin D: 2000 IU/day Vitamin E: 1000 IU/day Omega 3 Fatty Acids (Fish Oil)- 1000 mg/day Coenzyme Q10- 400 mg/day 4. I was only on Femara for one month and got pregnant. I was on Clomid for 7 months and had no luck. 5. Do your own research and do not be afraid to switch doctors! I honestly do not think we would have gotten pregnant if we had not switched. Here is the full story: We began TTC June 2016. March 2017- After 9 months of BBT charting, ovulation strips, timed intercourse, I couldn't wait any longer to see a doctor, and it was time for my yearly PAP smear, anyways. After some tests, I was diagnosed with PCOS. I am 5'5 and 117 lbs, so weight was not a symptom for me. I have always had irregular cycles (35 days or more- I skip a cycle at least once a year). I do have mild acne (mostly on my back), some hair loss around my hairline, and I do feel that my legs/bikini area have more hair than normal. The OBGYN ordered an ultrasound, which did not show cysts, and blood work, which was normal, however my progesterone was on the low side. So the OBGYN diagnosed me with PCOS and started me on Metformin (500 mg starting 1 X day, build up tolerance to take 2 x day), and Clomid (50 mg). Metformin did give me headaches/nausea the first couple of months, but that did finally go away and I started taking it 2 x day without symptoms. My acne has gotten better, but that's the only difference I've noticed. June 2017- After TTC on Metformin/Clomid for 3 months, DH had a semen analysis (SA). It showed that he had abnormal morphology- 0% of his sperm were normal shaped, and the motility was also low. He started taking FertilAid and did a repeat SA in a month, the morphology had improved to 1%, and his motility was in the normal range, but on the low end. There is no varicocele. It was very shocking because my husband is also slim, works out, has never has done a drug in his life, rarely drinks- just overall healthy. He is an autobody painter, so it is possible that a toxin is causing this issue- but he does take safety precautions (wearing masks, gloves, working in a well ventilated area), so not sure- it could be genetic? But after some research, we found out there is not much you can do to improve morphology, so at this point we were feeling very hopeless. It was our low point in this process. August 2017- Our next step was an HSG to see if my tubes were open, and they were. This gave us hope that we could go the IUI route. (Side note: the HSG was painful for me, but the painful part only lasted like 30 seconds, so it is very manageable!) Also- I skipped my period this month, while taking Metformin/Clomid (this tells me that I may have been resistant to Clomid). September 2017- After skipping a period, once I did start, I was bumped up to 100 mg Clomid. We had IUI #1, which did not work. The doctor told us that we should try the IUI 3 times, and if it didn't work, then we should move on to IVF. October 2017- We had IUI #2, which also did not work, but this is when things start to get good! My coworker had been TTC for 1 year and also was diagnosed with PCOS. She had been to another fertility specialist that had prescribed her with Femara instead of Clomid (previously she had taken Clomid & miscarried). She had just found out that she was pregnant after one month of being on the Femara! The fertility specialist that I was seeing would not prescribe Femara (since it is not FDA approved for use in treating infertility and because there was a study that showed an increase in birth defects- do you own research on this/ask your doctor). I decided to switch to the fertility specialist that my coworker was going to. Also, I stopped taking Clomid at this point, so I was on it for a total of 7 months (April- October). My husband was also discouraged and stopped taking the FertilAid supplements (the doctor actually told him that the vitamins weren't helping in a very rude manner but that's another story!)

IUI to AF to BFP

I cannot believe I finally get to submit my BFP story!! EEEK History on DH and I: I am 26 and he is 27. I have minor history of PCOS (one cyst once and told PCOS) and elevated Prolactin (highest recorded: 61). DH has low numbers (<10 million pre wash) and low motility (<20% pre wash). We have been trying to conceive for 3 years. We were put on 3 rounds of clomid (May, June, and August 2017) with no pregnancy success but had positive ovulation tests every time. OBGYN sent us to South Florida IVFMD for further help. Reproductive Endocrinologist suggested IUI since both hubby and I were below average but not so low to where she suggested IVF. She placed me on synthroid (hypothyroidism runs in my family and my numbers were a little too off for their liking) and I started Femera 12/26/2017. IUI was on 01/05/2018 and 01/06/2018 where DH had a 2.4 million/ 65% post wash sample and 600,000/95% post wash sample. I was instructed to either have a beta done or do a HPT 01/18/2018. However, I started spotting 01/16/2018 and thought for sure I was out. I took a FRER HPT 01/18/2018 and saw the faintest line but only if I held it up to the bathroom light. I thought I was making myself crazy and threw it out. 01/20/2018, I starting bleeding very heavily, bled a medium flow the next day, and had two spots of blood 01/22/2018. I went to the doctor to start our second round of IUI where she did a beta pregnancy test only as a formality. Shockingly, she said I was pregnant (Beta: 26) but was probably losing the baby to miscarriage with all the bleeding I experienced that weekend. She placed me on Progesterone suppositories to stop the bleeding and I took another Beta two days after (Beta: 44). Now that they confirmed that I was still pregnant, they were worried about ectopic pregnancy with the beta not doubling. They ordered another Beta Friday (Beta: 96). NUMBERS MORE THAN DOUBLED!! They are not so worried about ectopic now :) Hopefully our little Peanut will continue to grow happily and healthily. I wanted to share because I want all the women out there to know that weird things can happen and you can be pregnant with all of the situations above and more I'm sure. What I did in the month of the IUI that may have helped me get pregnant: Took Prenatal and Vitamin E everyday The day of the IUIs, DH and I BD and I laid down for the rest of the day. After the IUI, ate 1/5 pineapple with core for five days. Also, placed a heating pad either on my back or belly throughout the work day. Lastly, I followed chinese medicine and only drank warm fluids, drank lots of water and tea, and had full fat dairy. I also exercised with walking or jogging every day (not a common thing for me). I also visualized the sperm joining with the egg. I know it sounds weird but some women swear by it and it worked for me :) Other than normal period symptoms, I did not have any pregnancy symptoms the weeks after IUI.

BFP with PCOS after HSG

It all started when I stopped birth control in December 2016 and didn't get my period for 3 months. So I made an obgyn appointment in February 2017 and was diagnosed with pcos. I was very scared and sad to hear the news as I learned that getting pregnant will now be a more difficult journey and I am 28 years old so I wanted to get things rolling asap. I began by trying the holistic route and going to fertility acupuncture treatments once a week and making the famous pcos smoothie every morning. After 2 months of this I decided I want to start clomid as my obgyn recommend. So in April 2017 I sarted first round of clomid 50mg and of course no ovulation. Took progesterone to get period. Next month started 100mg and did ovulate! I never detected the ovulation on kit at home but ultrasound showed 2 large follicles. But still didn't get pregnant. Next 2 months tried 100mg again and ovulated every time but it didn't work... So my obgyn sent me to an RE. The RE said I need to get a lot of testing done before she can suggest a form of treatment, which would have been the letrazole. So I did a lot of blood work, my husband got tested, and everything came back normal. The next step was the HSG and saline tests. So I scheduled the tests for September 2017. The HSG was painful but very quick whereas the saline test was worst in my opinion! Longer and more painful. Anyways, both ca,e back normal. So the RE said I need to wait fo my period to start so we can start the letrazole and HCG injection treatment. So I waited for my period to come and it never did which is normal for me, so I decided to take progesterone as I had some left from last time. After I took the progesterone for 10 days I still didn't get a period but I had period like cramps. So I decided to take a pregnancy test... BFP!!! I immediately called my husband into the bathroom and we were both in shock! I started crying and pacing because we weren't even trying that month! Of course all the months we tried to conceive like clock work, and it didn't work, but the moment we didn't try at all we get a BFP!! So I just wanted to tell all you pcos ladies out there, don't lose hope! It can happen even without any medication! I'm so happy and beyond excited to have my baby! Good luck to all of you! Kick pcos butt! :-)

Metallic taste in mouth set in around 12dpo!! Good luck ladies!!! I really hope this helps!!!!!

Finally after SO MANY SYMPTOMS

I knew I was pregnant a week before I got my BFP. My husband didn't believe me, but I knew. I've not been tracking my ovulation, cause my cycle ranges from 27-35 days. I just BDed a lot, as much as we could. I got a raging UTI in the middle of what I thought was my fertile week, and the BDing stopped. I thought I was out for this month. Then, after my UTI, came the growing and tender BBs, the teenager acne, the heightened sense of smell, metal mouth, vivid dreams EVERY NIGHT ALL NIGHT, extreme bloating (worse than pms), and a strange lack of cramps. I usually get them the two weeks before af, but not a twinge. I also got nauseated when I was reading stories on here that said... *shudder*... "Creamy CM." That didn't happen before. I took one or two negative tests, the waited the weekend and took a couple more tests. VERY faint line positive, and that didn't convince DH. I took one the next morning and that one did convince him! I'm 5 weeks. I took the test last week. Yay!!

PCOS success story, Cant stop crying with elation!

Short story, I have PCOS and I normally have no idea when I ovulate or when my next period is going to come. Needless to say, trying to get pregnant is stressful, sad and sometimes I feel like a failure as a woman. This time, I felt extreme pain around October 23rd, 2017. I had to go to my doctor it was so painful. I thought I had a cyst burst or something scary. He did an ultrasound and told me I had ovulated. Weird. I was kind of happy because my partner and I had BD many times that month and If I had ovulated we definitely had on that night. I didn't know what to think, or if I should be happy or count us in for the month...Well here is m DPO symptom story 1DPO- a rush of watery CM, like water breaking rush. crazy. pain and cramping, had to use a heating pad and take a hot bath 2DPO- A big rush of white, thick CM. Pain and cramps still- very constipated, could not Poo 3DPO- Pain and cramps, nausea, dry CM- I swear I feel my bbs feeling heavier- still no Poo 4DPO- Dizzy, hot as hell. Swollen fingers and hands (weird)- cramps less but still there, very emotional 5DPO- Nausea- thirsty- BBs feeling heavy and tingly (i kept trying to ignore them :/), very emotional 6DPO- same as above- white and thick CM when wipe- diarrhea out of no where. Very emotional 7DPO- Less cramps- diarrhea still, non stop- dizzy and runny nose- bbs now feeling something for sure- Most vivid dream I got a positive pregnancy test. CRAZY dream! Felt so real! I woke up so happy only to realize it was a dream. 8DPO- knew I had to test tonight. I felt pregnant but so scared it was not true- I tested in the PM and got the faintest line in about 3 minutes. It couldnt be an evap line! I still disregarded it. :( 9DPO- did not sleep a wink, knew I was testing first thing in the morning. Tested with a cheapie stick from Dollar General. (not the one where you suck up in the plastic sucker thing, an actual pee on stick). Faint line!!!!!!! BFP!!!!! I am a teacher and I had an expensive First response in my bag saving for a rainy day and tested as soon as I got to work. TWO LINES! Not super dark but not faint either! BFP!!! My daughter is 3 and it was time for us to have another. Thank you God! I pray the bean sticks! THank you God!

Baby dust to everyone

I am 35 and have PCOS. We lost our first pregnancy after 1year1/2 of trying under what were quite traumatic circumstances. As we had concieved naturally (2 years of trying with v erratic cycles) we met with some difficulty in having investigations done but eventually I was diagnosed with PCOS and conceived my son first cycle IUI. We were told a pregnancy can reboot your fertility system and to remeber that fertility is a very fluid thing. I had been told my chances of conceiving naturally were 2%. I concieved my daughter unexpectedly as my son turned 1 and felt very blessed. We took no precautions and I fell pregnant again 1 year after her birth but sadly lost the pregnancy. 2 years on we decided to try again. This is our 8 month trying. As my cycles seem to have become more regular I used ovulation sticks(although not recommended for PCOS I knew signs and I did try ferning but actually the opk sticks were accurate), multivitamins and I cut alcohol, caffeine and reduced sugar. I also drank raspberry leaf tea pre ovulation this cycle but I felt as much bd as possible was best and as soon as the opk was positive I felt as much as we could we should. I have 3 days of positives so you can imagine by the end my husband was pretty exhausted. We kept it fun and no pressure. We agreed if not in mood not to force it. This month I explained how it worked, my cycle etc to my husband said he thought every 2nd day was better and not to panic just because we had a positive test. I agreed as felt we were maximising the first day but new my "true positive" was 2nd day (cb digital with smiley face but checking sticks 1st day the line was equal to control line, 2nd day stronger) so we were missing the day I probably ovulated but also...Think mens swimmers do need the day off to be ready. 1dpo-10dpo sore breasts. Every other month they had stopped hurting 6dpo. I felt I had more symptoms other months but by my breasts alone I knew and was pretty sure. It was that they kept hurting. I did a cheap test 10 dpo and had a shadow line, easy missed and even an invert didn't show it up but every other month it was stark white. 11dpo positive clearblue digital. BFP. Still faint on an internet cheapie. The month we least had sex. praying everything will be ok and resting. I wantted to post as it has given me such joy reading everyone's stories. I genuinely think the advice to bd every 2nd day through your fertile window is right. Takes the pressure off and I think gives your man's swimmers a chance. Fertility is a something so close to my heart. Every bit of me wishes anyone trying, baby dust and joy.

Bfp with pcos and while using myo-inositol

Hi! This is my second time posting on here! I’ll try to keep this short. I tried to have my son for 2 years, clomid and letrezole failed.... ended up giving up because of all the stress and getting pregnant naturally three months later. He is now 5 years old. I haven’t even really been actively trying since then because I never want to go through that stress again. About a month ago I started taking myo-inositol and d-chiro-inositol to help regulate my cycle and to manage my pcos symptoms. apparently two weeks after I started this pills I ovulated. Like I said me and my boyfriend were not trying but also not preventing. I got a faint... but definitely there... bfp about an hour ago. I barely had any symptoms this tww... tbh I had way more “symptoms” when I wasn’t pregnant. Here are my symptoms: *note: I do not temp or use opks so I am not sure of my exact O day. This is an estimate based on my symptoms.* O day: slight nipple tenderness and a teeny tiny bit of ewcm. It was not a lot at all, I usually have way more in previous cycles. 1-4 dpo: nipple tenderness (very usual for me post o) 5-7 dpo: absolutely nothing. 7-8 dpo: I started getting a stuffy nose..and my allergies went crazy. I have terrible allergies as it is but I take Zyrtec every day and that usually takes care of it. It was as if I wasn’t even taking my pill at all. I also had this weird lump feeling in my throat... like I swallowed a pill and it didn’t go down. I thought “how in the hell is this related to pregnancy?” But I googled it and apparently that’s common tww symptom so I noted it. 8dpo-10dpo: notice my breast look huge (this was my first symptom with my son) they didn’t hurt at all, just gigantic. Also, horrible allergies and stuffy nose... 10dpo was the worst for the stuffy nose... I felt absolutely awful. Not sick... just really stuffed up and a sinus headache. 11dpo: bbs still swollen and are slightly tender off and on... to be honest I thought they just hurt from me poking them so much. stuffy nose gone... allergies still bad 12dpo: notice my breast are a little more tender...felt like a bruise so again I thought it was from poking them too much. 13dpo: bbs still swollen and tender and now my nips are hurting slightly. 14dpo: same as 13dpo faint BFP with fmu on frer!! Now I just need to figure out a way to tell my boyfriend, he’s still sleeping haha. I’m praying for a safe and healthy pregnancy. Good luck everyone. And I hope my symptoms help or give hope to those of you in the tww.

44 natural BFP with APS, PCOS, suspected Adenomyosis & previous m/c

Quick Background: One daughter just turned 14. 2 previous pregnancies both at 42 with M/C at 9 and 10 weeks, both within 48 hours of perfect ultrasounds. Got a full workup by RE and found to have Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome, as well as being a carrier to several other blood clotting disorders (but not diagnosed with)... hemotolgist found it unusual to see so many carrier genes in one person. So... on baby aspirin for life. Was told to stay on Lovenox while TTC. Tried for about 6 months and gave up. Since we have been NTNP (not trying not protecting). That being said, we felt time was running out and I did get serious this month, used opk's and temped. This cycle we only BD'd one time due to both of us traveling. Got a positive OPK on CD 16 and BD'd on CD 17. That was it! I did symptom spot and will post below everything I noted, but in truth the only really OBVIOUS symptom I had that was totally unusual for me, was the most intense heavy full swollen breasts and sensitive nipples that started at 3 days post ovulation (confirmed with temping). And it never went away. I did NOT expect that and have never had that with any of my 3 previous pregnancies that early. In fact, I even worried my last two because I read so much about breast tenderness and it didn't really start for me until maybe the 6th week. So... here is my story... fingers crossed I stay pregnant, but I am grateful for the chance even with odds stacked against us. Most my life pcos has had my cycles all over the place, but for last few years eating a clean paleo diet & low in carbs... I've been super regular (by my standards)... periods are 30 to 35 days apart pretty consistently. Ovulating between CD 16-22. Typical is day 21 for me. CD 16 +opk at 2pm (had taken one at noon and it was "almost positive" so felt inclined to check again) Called DH who was out of town and arriving next morning. Ovulation Day: BD'd around noon that was it for this whole cycle 1 DPO confirmed O with temp rise, very large glob of clear super stretch cm in the morning. Slight breast tenderness, CM dried up and gummy by afternoon. 2 DPO cm scant but creamy/sticky, stong twingy cramps on left ovary (typical for me), mild uterine cramps, mild lower back cramps...also typical in early luteal phase. 3 DPO runny nose upon waking,. Breasts more tender than usual, nipples way more sensative than typical for me. On and off mentrual like cramps all day... stonger on left. Nipples were so tender I felt tortured playing softball everytime I ran... never happened before... even with previous pregnancies, never had such sensitive nipples until way later in pregnancy. Boobs feel full and very heavy/achy. 4 DPO cracy how heavy and full my breasts are and nips... OMG super sensative. Woke up in the night from a really strong cramp (too early for implantation?), mild headache all day, very gassy. Can't stop crying today, super emotional. Cried at daughters choir performance (never done that and felt silly). 5 DPO same as 4 dpo. I think I just had a really strong progeserone response or estrogen dominance or something this cycle. It's too early for Pg symptoms, but feels like the worst pms of my life. Emotional, boobs are killing me, just weird for me. 6 DPO Same as last 2 days, but noticed complexion looks great! Even had compliments which is also not normal for my luteal phase. 7 DPO BFN Same as aove, heache all day, lots of pain twingy cramps around what feels like left ovary. Radiates into hip. Feel really wet, have had light creamy cm since O, today it is thinner and wetter... even left wet spot on panties. 8 DPO BFN feeling out, all my other pregnancies (3) I tested positive by 8 dpo. Only really unusual symptom is the persistent incredibly sore breasts and crazy tender nipples. I have had some, but not quite like this and never this long, usually by now it lets up a bit. 9 DPO BFN Same as yesterday... Boobs still KILLING ME! 10 DPO BFN boobs and nips still super baaaaad! Seems like more crampiness today. Had a super sharp and very painful cramp while in line at grocery store in the afternoon. Honestly IF I did conceive that had to be an implantation cramp... I wanted to double over but it passed like in 15 seconds and then I've had on and off mild cramping in the area since. Kind of curious if this could be implantation... it was super intense but not gas, radiating pain into hip and down leg, it was different. Seriously, even thinking maybe with all this crampiness if I'm not pregnant (which I really don't think I am because I'm sure I would have a bfp by now) I need to go to the Dr. I'm worried I might have a pelvic infection, BV? I don't know, but a lot of cramping and discomfort lately.

Viva Mexico BFP

So this is my first time posting one of these, and I'm still in shock of the fact that I am. First a disclaimer: I know, as a woman who had been hoping for a child previously, addicted to symptom spotting and POAS, that we look for hope in the smallest signs. All I can say, is that EVERYONE is different, and it is hard to judge if you are pregnant or not before the time comes- all you can really do is wait. Do not lie to yourself about symptoms, because that only makes it harder! If you look for symptoms, oftentimes they will come. And a little bit about my background... I am just about to turn 20, from BC Canada. It currently living in Mexico with my 27 year old fiance. We have been together for almost a year, and have not been trying/not exactly preventing. When I was 16 & 17 I was in an abusive relationship and ended up miscarrying at 5 weeks post LMP (horrible to say but I am glad, as my life wouldn't be the same, it wasn't the time). After the miscarriage my hormone started going wonky, my periods would be from 28 to 41 days, and ended up with hyperthyroid then low progesterone, and was then put on bioidentical progesterone cream treament. That affected my mood greatly so I only stuck with it for 2 or 3 months before stopping. Also, I have iron deficient and macrocytic (folate) deficient anaemia due to allergies and food sensitivities. I thought that it would be very difficult for me to conceive but here I am now... I'm not 100% sure on my day of ovulation but I believe that it was on cycle day 13. After the progesterone my cycles have been 27 days long. I started getting that "feeling" around 9 days post possible ovulation so I think that is when I started implantation. I didn't have any bleeding, just cramping that was like the twinges that everyone talks about. Honestly I thought that I was going to get my period! There were a few different things that definitely made me think about being pregnant but I didn't think it would actually happen. The only thing that made me think that I was pregnant was that normally I start PMSing 8 days before my period on the dot- no matter how long my cycle is, but this cycle I started PMSing three days earlier. There wasn't much different than the usual PMS- my boobs started to swell and get heavy I was incredibly ravenously hungry, bloated and I was just having mood swings. The only differences were that I was incredibly horny- like crazy and my CM was super thick and snotty or abundantly yellow/white cream. I was also sick for about a week around implantation time. Oddly enough my PMS like symptoms stopped 2 days before my expected period, and that's when I knew something was up. I got a negative HPT on cycle days 24 and 26. On the 27th I started getting nauseaus, my favorite cheese smelt and tasted moldy (was fresh- Mexican cheese is the best), normally crazy for seafood but I couldn't stand the thought of it, plus I could live off of orange juice- it's all I crave. Yesterday, CD28 (approx. 14 DPO), I woke up and peed 2 times between 2 and 7 am and thought nothing of it. My fiance went and brought me HPTs because there was NO sign of af- large amounts of creamy white CM in its place. I told myself I was going to wait but I had a feeling I needed to POAS- so I did!! At 2 pm I got an instant dark positive, and didn't believe it. Waited a few more hours and it still was hard to absorb so I took another test (1 pee later and 2 L of OJ) which resulted in a faint positive. Something to note, as I realize this gets a lot of women- a MAJORITY of women don't test positive until after their missed period or 14 DPO.. it's normal and if you test positive previously you're a lucky odd duck. I hope this post brings solace to those that need it in their 2WW, but hold out and don't get discouraged by false tests and symptoms, but also don't give in to false hope- the fall is a lot harder that way :(
