Hello members of TTC Community!
This is my first blog post, and 2018 has been a crazy year.
Let me start from my TTC beginning...
January 2017 - Stopped taking birth control to allow myself time for my body to regulate. It normally takes up to 6 months for woman's body to start balancing itself.
March 2017 - Here starts the hot flashes (which sucked).. they happened usually at night for about 3 months.. during this time I also started losing a little weight and my hair started to feel thicker.. which was great.
September 2017 - Still no period, starting to worry.. I am 29 years old.. healthy.. what is going on? So I decide to see my NP. She does the routine blood test to check hormone levels, ultrasound to check uterus and ovaries. Apparently all looked great, and she said she would refer me off to the OBGYN.
February 2018 - Still no period.. finally meet with the OBGYN. He reviews my bloodwork, and looks at me and says " Did the NP go over this with you?", I said "She said everything came back perfect?". Well apparently my levels were NOT OK. In fact the FSH Level (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) was in the menopausal range (46!). So basically I left finding out that at 29 years old I was menopausal.
Here starts the insane researching, reaching out to any medical professional I know.. hoping to find a more about how this could happen.
I did find some information, which put my mind at ease. I was told that the FSH Level can temporarily be high after coming off birth control and it can take some woman up to 2 years for their period to return.
The OBGYN did another blood test to see if my levels had dropped since last time, which the didn't. They actually stayed the same. He said I likely have premature ovarian failure, or early menopause. He said my best option would be to look at donor egg IVF.
While I love that science has brought forward medical advances for circumstances like this, I was not quite ready to take that plunge ($$$).
April 2018 - I start to taking herbs (Vitex ,CoQ10, Folic Acid, Omega 3) start reduces my workouts and started acupuncture. There was nothing my OBGYN could give me, no magic pill, to help erase this diagnosis. So I hoped that trying to relax and taking a more holistic approach would give me some sort of fighting chance.
May/June 2017 - Some spotting each month.. but no full period.
July 2018 - IT'S BACK!!! Full period is back, it's been 4 days.. and I have never been so happy to have a period.
1 year, 5 months later it finally came back.
I don't know if this means my FSH will drop and I will be able to conceive naturally, but I am hopeful and determined.
Let me know if anyone else has had experience with post pill amenorrhea; high FSH level; POF when TTC. Have you had any success?
For anyone on the TTC Journey.. I am with you.. keep strong.. and try not to miss out on all the love that surrounds you.
