What Supplements Do you Take?

Postby MsLiterary » Mon Jun 23, 2014 2:29 pm

I'm always curious about what supplements (vitamins, Fertilaid, etc.) women who are TTC take to aid in getting that beautiful BFP. When I received my BFP in December I really wasn't taking any vitamins. That pregnancy resulted in a MC. Since then, I've been focused on doing what I can to make sure I'm getting a sticky bean. Since December I've been extremely consistent with my vitamins (and, yes, I take a LOT- lol) and I'm hopeful it will help. (I'll list mine in a few)

So...let's chat...what supplements/vitamins are you/have you taken to help with TTC?

I was looking at the prenatal pills and they say on them take preconception, pregnant and post pregnacy. It's like a multivitamin pretty much but with folic acid in it. I'm also drinking FertiliTea for my second cycle and it did regulate the length of AF, upped my sex drive and I definitely have more cm.
Fx this cycle is my cycle.

I'm going all out this month with opks and temping. Even the DF is taking a multivitamin now and I'm cooking healthier. Now if I could some how fit in some exercise. Lol

This is a great topic, and I'm always eager to learn more a out natural fertility enhancements.

I take a prenatal each day, and 300 mg of coq10. Next cycle (if I have a next cycle - I hope not!) I will be bumping that up to 630 mg daily due to my ridiculously high fsh levels. I also eat pineapple core following ovulation for a few days. I have a nice big pineapple waiting patiently on my counter right now!

DH also takes 300 mg of coq10. His numbers aren't the greatest so we've just purchased a 3 month supply of fertilaid.

I am curious to hear what you are taking!

Okay...now...don't laugh because I've already said I take quite a bit of vitamins/supplements. My prenatal DOES contain a lot of the things that I take (i.e. zinc, iron, folic acid, etc.) but I just take a single dosage on its own for extra coverage.

*side note* I just pulled all these down and my husband looked at me like I'd said there was no Easter Bunny. Hilarious.

So here's my cocktail. As with ANY supplement, you should consult your doctor if you're pregnant, lactating, etc.

B6 (100mg)- aids in proper function of all body, brain and nerve cells.
Zinc (50 mg) - Aids in proper growth and normal reproductive development.
Bitoin (5000mcg)- Promotes healthy skin, hair & nails (I really just take this because it helps my hair grow super fast)
Folic Acid (800mcg) - Supports women's reproductive health.
Coenzyme Q10 (Co Q-10) (50mg) Helps maintain healthy blood pressure.
Super B Complex- Helps with metabolic functions
Vitamin C (1000 mcg)- enhances the immune system
Iron- (65mg) - Helps with red blood cell formation
Multivitamin
Equate's Daily Prenatal DHA/EPA
Equate's Daily Prenatal Multivitamin (Vitamin A, C, D, E, B1, B2, Niacin, B6, Folic Acid, B12, Biotin, Pantothenic Acid, Calcium, Iron, Iodine, Magnesium, Zinc, Copper)

So, yes...it seems like (and probably IS) a lot...but, a lot of these I would take even if I wasn't TTC. But, I'd probably just take a multivitamin and be done with it. Because I'm TTC I wanted to up the ante and use individual vitamins in addition to the multivitamin as well.

I know, I know...my husband's face was like , but I want my body to be a healthy vessel for our baby. :D

Interesting... You make me realize that I definitely need to do more research!

I'm interested in supplements that will help my egg quality, and that will help me conceive (sticky uterus, etc). I was taking additional folic acid, but heard that too much folic acid was actually not a good thing. I've heard about the vitamin B's though... I should look into this...

He actually doesn't...I was raised taking vitamins, but he wasn't. I'm massaging him into the idea.

I really just did a google search for TTC + VITAMINS and came across a lot of useful information!

Great topic! I've been taking One-A-Day prenatals since the month before we started TTC. It's great b/c there are two pills (one fish pill, one oink pill pill) instead of one HUGE pill to choke down. In addition to those I take an extra 500mg of Vitamin C and 400 IU of Vitamin E, which I believe have increased my luteal phase by 2-3 days.

I spent 3 cycles drinking a cup of Red Raspberry Leaf tea every day up until O, but since we didn't conceive I decided to forgo it this cycle. I also tried to add 50mg of B6 to my nightly routine but it made me breakout terribly, not that I wouldn't be willing to do anything at this point, but it was a very big reaction that I don't think seemed positive.

Always looking for something new to add to the mix that's natural!

Awesome! I've heard so much about Red Raspberry Tea but have had a hard time locating it. Where did you purchase yours?

I just started taking B6 today...I really hope it doesn't have the same effect.

I just got it at the local grocery store (Mariano's or Jewel-Osco in Chicago). I'm not a huge fan of the taste, I bet it's better iced but I was drinking it in the cold months. Let me know how the B6 goes, I think my reaction was uncommon as I did some research and it looks like B6 usually helps TREAT acne, so...i'm just special. Ha!

I haven't had my BFP yet but I started some new supplements this month:

Royal Jelly (said to improve egg quality)
Vitex (helps promote hormonal regularity)
DIM (helps with estrogen dominance which I have with PCOS)
Vitamin C
Prenatal Vitamin

Good luck with everything!!!! Definitely your DH should get on some supplements as well, this is a 2 person process after all! :D

I take 1 500mg capsule a day. I tried the raw "liquid" form and I couldn't handle the taste and the thickness.

Good thread. I take a lot too and have been in preparation for TTC for a long time

Royal Jelly promotes egg health and quality - since follicles start about 3 months before ovulation you really need to be taking it for about 3 months to get the benefits from it. But otherwise it is overall a great supplement to take. I have been taking it for almost 1 year.

I also take:
Iron
Folic Acid
Vitamin B6
Vitamin C
Vitamin D
Omega 3
Zinc

Since we are TTC next cycle I will be taking a cocktail of phytoestrogens CD2-6 and then Tribulus to O and then start eating the fresh pineapple including core. I am determined to not allow this process go long again. It is exhausting. LOL

GNC prenatal
omega 3 1000 mg
vitex 1000 mg
royal jelly 1500 mg
vitamin c 1000 mg
l arginine 2000 mg
Zink
b complete
folic acid
vitamin e
COq10 600 mg
baby aspirin 81 mg
Maca powder
Wheatgrass

trying to eat at least 80 % organic + juicing
I know it's a lot, but after one chemical pregnancy, one blighted ovum, one missed miscarriage and no live births trying to do everything to improve egg quality.
Missed miscarriage was last month so I have been taking all of this for a month now in a hope to get a sticky baby next time.
