Postby Swar93 » Thu Jul 12, 2018 10:14 pm

I have been getting positive pregnancy tests for a week. Very faint, but slowly getting darker and more noticeable. I went to the dr yesterday to get bloodwork done and the pregnancy test came back negative. Retested tonight, both tests positive again. I'm not having any symptoms, and I've been bleeding for the last 8 days, lightly. I'm concerned if I'm pregnant it will be ectopic, and if I'm not, it's an underlying condition. Does anyone have any advice for a situation like this?

The blood work came back negative or the doctors office test?If you are bleeding it can be due to low progesterone.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. The dip tests at the doctor's aren't as sensitive so if your HCG is low they come back negative. In my case blood work confirmed I was pregnant and that HCG was rising, but not fast enough and I lost the baby at 6 weeks.

The bloodwork came back negative for me. But of course I've been test crazy due to having 2 miscarriages. One was a chemical pregnancy, had all the symptoms for like a week, then I woke up one day and was bleeding heavily, and the 2nd I was supposed to be 11 weeks but the baby had stopped growing at 6w5d. The line on the test is very light, but it is there. It has only gotten slightly darker in the past couple days

did your doctor had a quantity beta done or a quality one?the quality test it only says positive or negative and it tests positive for 25 units and up,the quantity is what most of us get is when they tell you the exact amount of the Hcg you have in your blood and anything over 5 is pretty much positive.I would ask and be sure what kind of test you had done in case you are pregnant to set up an apoiment as early as you can with your doctor due to your previous losses.

The picture wont post, says it is too big. My MIL, who is a nurse practitioner, says that she sees the positive as well. I will have to call the dr to see what kind of draw they did. They didnt exactly tell me, just that it was negative. MIL agreed with me to get the blood draw, but was also confused by the results. I scheduled an appt with my OBGYN, but it's not for a month, I feel like that's kind of far out in case something is wrong, but any other place is the same way. I'm not sure if this is something I should go to another dr or the er about, but the bleeding is very minimal today, like it is going to stop. But it is day 9, and it was not a normal period, I'm one for heavy bleeding and this didnt require a panty liner it was so light. I guess i will wait until Monday to call the drs office if i am still getting faint positives.

I don’t think is a false positive if it gets darker each day.
I think you should get your progesterone tested immediately.

I know they're not false positives I've taken like a million tests and same result lol with the exception of the digital ones but I know your hcg has to be higher for those to read. They did do a draw to check to see if my progesterone had peaked but they said it hadn't. We have been ttc for about 4 years now with 2 failed pregnancies. This last time I took provera for 10 days, and 100mg of clomid for 5. This cycle was just extremely weird, it took me 16 days after taking provera to get my period which is abnormal, and that was in may. So if I am pregnant, I would have ovulated EXTREMELY late. The only thing that made me think I was, is because I started bleeding, which is extremely uncommon for me. I have not had a natural period in close to 4 years, I've had to take hormones every time. So then I started taking tests. I thought i was losing my mind when the first few were positive. I took one probably 3 weeks ago and it was negative but then a week ago I started getting very faint almost invisible positives. This is why I'm afraid if I am pregnant, it would be ectopic. Does anyone have experience with ectopic pregnancies?

I apologize how close it is I had to crop it a lot lol. But this is one from last night, I took the picture probably 6 or 7 minutes after I took the test. Its showing positive in the correct time frame, but it does get darker over time.

I don’t have any personal experience with ectopic pregnancy but from what I know is about what you are experiencing, positive tests and spotting.
Honestly I think you should get checked by a doctor soon,a proper Hcg draw,Progesterone,a scan to see if it shows anything in ur uterus.
Ectopic pregnancy is no joke.
I would go to the ER and tell them you are pregnant and you are spotting maybe they will do a proper check up.
Even if you are like 4w pregnant they can see The sac in ur uterus.

Ok I see what you are seeing but I would totally recommend getting a pink dye test to test for progression.
Blue dye tests are tricky and some can give evaps.

I will have to go today and get another box of FRER and see if the line is any darker, I haven't taken one of those in about 4 days. I know you're supposed to get horrible side pain with ectopic but I would assume it depended on the size of the baby. I have gotten consistent faint positives for the last week with pink or blue dye tests which is why I'm confused lol. If the lines are any better on the FRERs I get today I will post an update. But not until later tonight

The pain doesn’t come until much later with the ectopic from what I read.I have no idea honestly.

I've had 2 friends who suffered ectopics, and they had normal pregnancy tests at home and the dr office. HCG will still rise normally; it's just the baby is in the wrong place. This doesn't look like ectopic to me. Several days of very faint positives that don't really progress sounds more like a chemical or a pregnancy that just isn't registering normally on an hpt (there are some women who don't get positive hpts). The light bleeding could have been a sign of the former, or could just be the egg nestling in (I spotted light tan from 5w to 8w). Was the "spotting" you report red flow, or more pink-tan in color?

Either way, I agree with getting quantitative betas to be sure, and ask for a progesterone measurement as well. If your regular doctor won't do this, find someplace that will. ASAP. Low progesterone levels won't support a pregnancy, and in the case of potential ectopic, the longer you wait to have it diagnosed, the greater the possibility of averse results and complications.

You mention that you haven't had a normal period in years.... do you have any idea where you are in your cycle? I only ask b/c a gestational sac should be visible 2-3wk post-O. Before that, an ultrasound may not be able to find it.
