Congenitally closed tubes???

Postby bama77 » Tue May 10, 2011 9:42 am

I can't find much at all online about this - but my OB/GYN is convinced I had to be born with completely closed tubes (after a lap/hsg), because they look perfect, have no scar tissue, past infection, present infection, mucus buildup, or anything. My first appointement with RE is in a week. Just wondering if anyone else has heard of this or dealt with this. And how do you cope with someone telling you that you'll never get pregnant on your own without IVF? It's a hard pill to swallow, knowing that sex with your husband will never produce a child.

You had a laparoscopy and an HSG done and they both proved that the tubes were blocked? I've heard of microsurgery to unblock mens' semen "tubes," perhaps this is something you can look into for your fallopian tubes.

As for how to cope, you will find strength when you need it. If you want to cry, do it. If you want to scream, do it. It's a grieving process. There are 7 steps to grieving, and they don't have to go in order. They can also come and go, back and forth.

I personally have decided if I can't get pregnant naturally, then I will not opt for IVF. It gives me a sense that I make the decision, and not the unfair hand that has been dealt to me. I know it's not really up to me, but it has given me a sense of control. I don't expect you to feel the same way as I do, but at least you know that you aren't alone and we are all here for you if you need us.

If you don't feel like you can talk to your husband about it, I encourage you to speak to a counselor. Ask your doctor if they know someone who is familiar with infertility counseling. As we all know, not everyone understands infertility, and can very easily say the absolute wrong thing to a woman who really needs to hear all the right things.

Keep in mind that men don't feel the same way as women do, and if he doesn't seem to understand, it's not because he doesn't love you, but because he just isn't built the same way we are. I told my husband "Don't try to fix this, just commiserate with me and hold me while I cry." That helped me a lot, just knowing he was there for me, even though he couldn't take my pain away.

Keep us updated on your situation, even if it's just for a shoulder to cry on. Speaking about your pain here is a great step in the right direction in how to cope with this bad news.

Also, I want you to remember, that you didn't do anything to deserve this, and it's NOT FAIR. You are not to blame, and it's okay to cry. I spent a whole day crying...nothing got done that day, and it just had to be a "me" day where I broke down. I am seeing a grief counselor, and I've found it very helpful in my healing process. I also took some time to research the grieving process, and that has been a tremendous help/

Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement. Exactly what I needed to hear! I'm so sorry for all the losses you've experienced. I hope and pray you will one day have your take home baby!

bama I also have blocked tubes. It is a shock to hear IVF is our only hope, but at least we have hope..in years gone by there would be nothing to be done.

We coped with the news by holding onto that. If IVF doesn't work then we will just be childless as adoption isn't an option for us (Australia has the worst adoption rate in the western world, less than 50 children adopted per year!)

Good luck with your RE appointment..I hope they can help you!
