Anti-TPO antibodies

Postby babyhatch » Tue Jul 26, 2011 6:11 pm

I just found out that I have anti-tpo antibodies. Apparently they are antibodies that attack your thyroid so I was put on a low dose of sythroid. Does anyone else have this? This is the first time that I have heard of it. My actual thyroid was great but my RE tested me for this and it is elevated :( !
If you are having trouble ttc or have had a miscarriage and have not been tested for this you should ask your dr to test you. My RE said that elevated levels will make it more difficult to conceive and increases your chances for miscarriage. Just thought I'd share.

Hmmm, I dont know much about it. I know my RE tested me for it as well, but mine came back negative. Did your RE mention what the "fix" could be....medication, etc?

I have definitely heard of this, and from what I understand the synthroid will help keep it under control. If you want to do some more research on it, check out this Yahoo support group: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/immunologysupport/

You have to register to be able to post, but it's worth it! There is so much info on that site.

Jen- The only thing my RE told me was to take synthroid. I have learned that Selenium in Brazil nuts help lower the antibodies. I've also read that eating a gluten free diet helps, buit I'm not ready to try that yet!

Kara- Thanks for the link, I'll check it out!

I'm on Synthroid and it has brought my TSH level down quite a bit, within normal range. I'd definitely consider taking it to see what happens...
