Dh has a low count as well. I think his lowest test was 4 million with 2% morph. The docs couldnt find anything wrong with him after numerous blood tests etc so we tried supplements and that did nothing. We are currently trying accupuncture because weve heard so many good things about it helping mfi. He also got off night shift and corrected a vitamin D deficiency and he will be getting tested again in 2 months. Good luck everyone!

Hello....

As a donor, male factor is responsible for only half of the recipients seeking assistance that I have encountered. The other half is male vasectomy, which I found surprisingly high.

This excludes single women and lesbian relationships, of course.

Hello,
I am in the same boat as you are. My husband and I have been TTC for 7 months and I got the results to his SA yesterday, 0 semen. They are having him take another next Friday. I didn't tell him about it having 0 semen I just said they didn't get a good sample so they wanted another one. I hope I'm doing the right thing but I just know he will be very upset about it and I figured since he has to take another one, why be upset before he has too....? It's a sensitive subject because his brother and his wife are in the process of IVF due to male factor. I've been so stressed since I talk to the doctor yesterday I just don't know what to think. Bottom line I'm just hoping that there are some sperm there that can be taken out if needed for IVF. We desperetly want a biological child. How did your appointment go? Any new news?

Hi Wezza

Don't worry we have all pretty much been there and had to deal with the situation as best we can. Try not to stress yourself out too much - your hubby will need you to be positive and strong for him regardless of the second test result. I would advise that you tell him the truth though, reason being that while it might be upsetting honesty really is important during these times. You need to be as close as possible emotionally too / but that is just an opinion.

Also wanted to say if the result isn't quite what you wanted then there are plenty of options now as medicine has advanced so much. Focus on doing all that you can to make it happen - staying happy, eating well and exercising, taking vitamins, etc. it will all work out!

I am going for my first IUI next week! Wish me luck and baby dust to everyone in here!!!! Xxxx

Wezza - My dh and I are in the same boat as you...0 count. He did 2 SAs with the same results. We just got results from blood tests and u/s. Everything came back normal. So we have an appt. with an RE on Dec. 17. It was hard to tell DH and he did cry. But we have come a long way and are following the path of modern medicine. If IVF is the route, that is what we will do. I hope that our doc will have some answers for us. Hang in there!! You're not alone!

VPatel - Good luck with the IUI!

After taking supplements known to help sperm quality for 3 months, DH did another SA last month which showed some improvement in the morphology (went from 9% to 30%!) but his sperm is moving so little that they didn't even report a percentage this time. :( We are possible candidates for IVF but again, we aren't interested as we would rather go the adoption route if we were going to spend that much money to conceive. Since DH will be an older father (45) we decided we needed to do what we could to conceive ASAP and DH had no problem with using a donor so we are going to try that. You have to get a psychological evaluation before you go that route and she helped us so much with how we would tell our child that a donor helped us conceive. If any one has any questions about the sperm donor process, I'm happy to answer. We have already selected our donor and purchased one dose of sperm and should be doing the DI within the week!

Hi vraklis,

I am so happy to hear that you have selected the donor and that you are moving forward! Thats truly beautiful news :) Fingers triple crossed that everything goes smoothly and wonderfully!

We just started our very first IUI :) Was meant to be Nov but my father...well he passed away in January after a heart attack in Nov and so we missed all the timing traveling and just not being unto it really. But we are finally back on the wagon :) DH also had his second SA and numbers improved a little :) So hoping to keep that trend going!

FX for everyone!!

VPatel, I'm so so sorry for your loss, that must be so hard. My Dad has had a stroke and even that is terribly hard. I just lost my Grandpa last month, but we decided to go ahead with the DI despite the grief and the travelling, etc. Thankfully my ovaries are still on schedule for ovulation despite the added stress.

I just went for a mid-cycle sonogram today to see if I'm ready for insemination, and my uterine lining is thick enough and I have one follicle that is almost large enough. I've got a dose of Ovidrel (trigger shot) I'm supposed to inject at 9:30 pm tonight and then return for the DI on Saturday morning. I'm getting really excited, but trying to prepare myself for disappointment as well b/c I've been on this journey long enough, I can never get my hopes too high.

Is your DH taking anything that helped improve his numbers? And when you say you started the IUI, do you mean you already had it or are getting ready to? FX for you!

Shiftworker29: welcome to the thread :) How are you and the hubby after the results? I hope not too bummed - there will still be a sticky bean for you! First time I have heard that the clinic didn't give you a set of the actual results! Did you want a copy or are you ok without the numbers?? In any case - same destination, perhaps a slightly different route :)

Vraklis: thank you and absolutely same to you. I am so sorry to hear about the hardships you are coping with right now. I totally hear you about the exhaustion of traveling etc. We live in Asia and my family are in the UK so going back and forth twice within a few short weeks really took it out of us. However here you are with your Ovidrel!! Bring on your 9.30pm! How are you feeling? I hope positive and happy - suppose to help a lot! :) The thick lining is a good sign and YAY for the follicle!! How is your hubby doing this cycle?

My DH has been working out more (as he previously worked out anyway), Fertilaid, Count and Motility Boost, Vitamin E and Folic Acid! We are currently CD6 and taking the puregon shots daily hoping to get some nice follicles :) Trigger shot likely to be on Tuesday next week as I ovulate around CD13ish...so IUI will be approx thursday I think!

FX for all of us :) xx

Vpatel- my dhs first reaction was to retake test haha like all men he feels he can study and ace it....I told him its okay we will figure it out....he's quitting smoking and I am trying not to pressure him too much... It was my OB that have us the results she just said he had low concentration...and referred us to clinic as she was not familiar with MFI issues....she said she could help my not ovulating with clomid....so we will try that we'll we wait...

Good luck did you get your IUI today?

shiftworker: have you scheduled an appt with a urologist for your hubby? They would be the most help in figuring out what the problem is and explaining the numbers to you. They will also do a blood test to make sure low testosterone isn't a factor. In our case I wish it had been, as they could have prescribed clomid for men to help, but there was no explanation for us so we had to decide what our next step would be. We chose to try using a donor, but I think that is a harder decision to make for most men. Mine doesn't really have an ego and is pretty practical about all this, he just wants a baby and knows that he will be "Dad" whether it's his DNA that gets us pregnant or not.

vpatel: I'm anxious. I was excited but now I'm freaking out-lol! I'm so afraid I ovulated early, even before I took the trigger shot. I had all the ovulation symptoms I usually get, followed by the drying up of my CM...but two days early. Of course it had to happen the cycle we're planning an IUI-lol! Rather than stress about it and waste the donor sperm by doing the iui on Saturday morning, when my egg would be dead by then if I ovulated Thursday evening like I suspect, I'm going to call the clinic as soon as they open to see if they can do a sonogram to check whether I ovulated or not. If I did, I'm hoping we can immediately do the DIUI.

I'm excited for you that your IUI is coming up so soon! I hope we both get our BFP's. Would this be your first?

Hey V we haven't scheduled anything as of yet, my DH is just wanting to take test again, i don't want to push too much so I will wait and see what fertility doctor says is the next step, as soon as I get blood preg test back and if neg I will start the provera to start my period, and then do the 3 rounds of clomid while we wait for clinic to contact us, I am hoping that if I ovulate with the clomid his spermies will find its way!
Hes quitting smoking and starting to eat better I am going to start him on a multivitamin soon and go from there. He wanted to take test again right away I said quit smoking and take vitamin and we will retake again when we get to fertility clinic.

Thanks for all the help ladies its nice to have someone going through the same thing!

Good luck to all of you and I hope you get your BFP soon!

Shiftworker--tell him that it takes 3 months for sperm to refresh so it will take three months of healthier living to see the first improvement. He can still go get another SA if he must, but tell him not to be discouraged if it is the same. Unfortunately it does take time to see improvement, but it can be really good improvement if he quits smoking and takes a vitamin every day. Let us know your POAS results. Who knows you might get pg before he ever takes another SA!
