TTC for 4 yrs HSG test?

Postby Meganjeanhart » Mon Aug 18, 2014 3:17 pm

I know to so many of you 4 years seems like nothing. To others of you it may seem like a lifetime (that is how I am feeling!!). However, I was just on the phone with my Dr. who has now recommended a HSG test to which I did the only logical thing and googled the crap out of it (probably not the best idea). Have any of you had one and if so did any of you get pregnant within the next month or two?
I know its a long shot but I am willing to do whatever it takes now. haha. Baby dust to EVERYONE!!!! Thanks for your responses

Hi Meagan
I had the test last Sept. Both of my tubes were clear so the test itself wasn't too bad. I did get pregnant but not until 7 cycles later (miscarried at 6 weeks). I don't think the test had anything to do with me getting pregnant. In Canada it is part of any fertility workshop as there is no point doing any fertility drugs if the sperm can't meet the egg:)
GL with the test. Hopefully everything checks out and it gets you closer to a BFP!

I had one in January, and it was uncomfortable for me but not painful. And it literally only lasted like 60 seconds. It felt like when I had an IUD put it -- for some people its awful, and for some its just uncomfortable. But you see the results right then and there so its totally worth it.

My tubes were clear and my uterus was normal, however I didnt get a BFP anytime after. but thats probably because my issues have nothing to do with tubes being open..

Hey,

I had one and have been ttc for about 5 years now. The procedure was uncomfortable at first then quite painful. This was 5 cycles ago now and I haven't conceived. I hope it works for you.xx

Hey!
I don't have any first hand experience, yet, but I had to chime in. I met with my OBGyn last Monday and she told me that once DH gets his SA done, I will need to get an HSG. After she explained what it was, all I could think was, "WHY HAVE I NEVER BEEN TOLD ABOUT THIS TEST?!?!" I know it sounds stupid after dealing with infertility that I have never heard about this test but now I am actually looking forward to getting it done to get some more answers.

Hope you have good luck with it!

I too was just told this week that once DH SA comes back if it looks good I will be having a HSG done. I know there might be cramping with it but it is worth the answers it will give.

Does anyone know if husbands are allowed to be there when the test is done. My DH seen a video of one and said he didn't want me by myself for it and wants to be there.

I had an HSG after 2yrs TTC. In my experience it was as uncomfortable as a pelvic exam, but I didn't find it painful. The procedure itself happened very quickly. I did take two ibuprofen before and ate a light breakfast, which I think helped. Afterwards, I felt a bit lightheaded, but this subsided very quickly (few minutes) and I could drive afterwards and go to work that day. There was some residual spotting throughout the day. My results were free and clear, but I didn't get a BFP the months following the HSG, although it is supposed to increase your chances. Good luck!

I know it's not 100% going to happen to everyone, but I had my HSG on December 9th and got my first ever BFP this morning (December 31st) after 22 cycles of nothing but BFN's. It can happen if there aren't any other factors for infertility.

Fingers crossed for all of you!

I ended up having my HSG beginning of November, no BFP that month but got my BFP this last week and confirmed with blood test yesterday. After TTC for 2 years! So not saying it was the HSG but it worked out that way. Who knows.

Good luck!
