Bad SA... See Urologist or straight to RE?

Postby bunny123 » Thu Mar 12, 2015 11:13 am

For any of you ladies whose DH had bad semen analysis results... Do you recommend we go to a Urologist or a Reproductive Endocrinologist? We got DH's SA results and he scored pretty low on all three important factors (more details in comments section here: http://www.twoweekwait.com/node/37105)... He was referred to a Urologist but I'm wondering if we should go to the RE to speed up the process. DH and I are both 30 but I'm turning 31 this week.

Any advice would be very appreciated!

I would recommend to definitely go with the urologist option. If you are working with a fertility clinic, then go with the urologist they recommend - it makes test results sharing and other documents sharing much easier!

Just my 2c Good luck!

@bunny123 I also recommend seeing a urologist first. My DH also had low sperm count (11 million) & urologist said it was due to a varicocele. He had a simple outpatient surgery to repair it & 3 months later his count is now up to 70 million. He is also taking a prescription vitamin called conception rx which is supposed to increase count & motility even more. Good luck!!!! If you have any questions just ask!

Thank you revys and Britgr27 for your response! I am new to the forums and had no idea that anyone responded (I kept looking at my "new messages" at 0 so I assumed no one saw my post). We decided to go to the urologist first and DH was prescribed Clomid. it has been a month and a half since he started and no BFP yet... but hopefully in the next couple months we will get lucky! =)

I second revys' recommendation. My DH's SA results were TERRIBLE. Low motility, low morphology, and only 600,000 sperm. That's way too low, even for IUI. We started seeing a fertility specialistt who referred us to a urologist who works directly *with* the clinic, so once the urologist reviewed his results, he was able to immediately order further hormonal and genetic testing that any other urologist wouldn't have. We have to wait 2 solid months for our next appointment (AAAAH!), but I still feel like it's been the most time-saving, money-saving and organized way to go. It's nice to have all of your providers in the process on the same page.
Me:32; Perfectly healthy
DH:38; Poor count, motility & morphology
IVF #1: BFN. 5 High quality Frozen.
FET #1: BFN.
FET #2: January 2016
