Erosion? luteal phase defect? confused!

Postby confused85 » Fri Apr 03, 2015 10:26 am

Hi all,
This is my first post but I've been browsing these boards for a while and feeling particularly down today.

My husband and I have been TTC for 5 months now with no luck. I know it's not that long but I am feeling hopeless at the moment.

I was on BC for about 10 years but came off it 2 years ago. The reason for stopping is that I started to get mid cycle spotting and the Dr thought it may have been because of the pill. I tried the mini pill but constantly bled so I came off altogether. Unfortunately the mid cycle bleeding has continued every month, between 7-10 days before AF is due until my full flow starts. The spotting starts as a light pink stained discharge turning to dark brown and heavier a few days before my period is due.

My cycle is 27-28 days each month, I have been diagnosed with erosion and for a long time was told that this was causing my mid cycle bleeding. When I went to get it cauterised however, the nurse told me it shouldn't cause mid cycle spotting and that I didn't need it treated. As you can imagine I was quite upset by this so arranged a gp appt. The gp told me that I probably have a luteal phase defect and because of a drop in progesterone, my womb is trying to shed its lining early. She said that the only way they'd treat this is with BC and hopefully I should get pregnant and this will sort out my hormones.

I'm totally lost now, I don't know if my bleeding is because of erosion or progesterone, if its affecting my ability to conceive and if anything can be done. I've had an ultrasound and colposcopy to check the erosion wasn't suspicious and they told me all was fine in there. I'm scared to go back to the doctors because they make me feel like I'm fussing about nothing.

Basically I'm here for advice, reassurance and some support as I'm at a total loss at the moment.

Thanks in advance

I'm sorry about what your're going through, and I understand how confusing this can be. I can't believe the gp said that the only way they can treat this is with BC. That is not right at all. You can go on Progesterone treatment of different forms to improve your levels. Who wants to go on bc when ttc, besides that obviously did not work for you since that's when you started to notice the issue. But there are other ways I can tell you about as well.

I have not been on bc pill for 8 years, and always had fairly regular periods. However, throughout the years I started to notice more and more spotting before my period, and sometimes it lasted 7-8 days, but most common was 4-5 days. Before we decided to start ttc I wanted t get my cyles as healthy as possible. I read up on this issue, and started changing my lifestyle, and started taking vitamins and other supplements. And it totally worked. I reduced the spotting to 2-0 days each cycle and I felt much much better. And from temping I found out I o'd on cd15 each month and always got af cd31 (it used to be between 29-34 days). I don't know what worked exactly, but here is what I did:

I started taking Mega food baby and me vitamins, EPO, Fish oil, Bee Propolis, Royal jelly, L-Arginine, vitamin b complex, Vitamin d, Fertilitea, Rasberry leaf tea, Moon cycle tea, and other fertility teas.

The fertilitea is great because of the vitex in it, and helps will balancing hormones. Many warns against fertilitea, but it didn't screw with my cycles, but improved it. Vitamin b complex (vitamin b6 in particular) is suppose to improve progesterone and lengthen the LP. However I started with taking epo only for a few months and noticed a change just from that, and would really recommend this as well. It is not only good for egg white cm, but also good for balancing hormones.
Other things I did was eating a fertility focused diet, with lots of veggies, healthy fats and switched to mostly organic and reduced most sugar and processed food, and upped my exercise regime. When we finally started trying (timing the bd) I got pregnant the first cycle. Unfortunately ended in miscarriage.

Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions.

Hmm, I had "erosion" too for 1.5 years and then it seemed to heal. I'd bleed after sex which sucked. I also have a luteal phase defect and progesterone does help me with that. I don't agree that BC will help. I had a struggle getting my doctor to deal with it...I had to go to a fertility specialist who prescribed it right away. I'm sorry you're going through this. It's worth trying some of the supplements mentioned above.

Thank you so much for your responses. I have a doctor's appointment this morning and I'm going to demand some answers. I am taking epo, vitex and b vitamins but I'll definitely look into the other supplements.
I've been taking vitex for the whole cycle but I've read that others take it up until ovulation. Do you have any advice on this?
My husband and I are having a month off this month as I am getting very down when the spotting starts. I've also started exercising and eating more healthily so fingers crossed this will help.

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss efina9. Thank you for all the information that you've given me.
