If your doctor refer you to a specailist and it is approved is that approved by the insurance or the specailist.

If your doctor refers you to a specialist, typically it is approved by your insurance. Your regular Dr. is basically saying that he can't treat you and you need a specialist to treat you. Any time I have ever been referred to another doctor it was ALWAYS covered by my insurance.

To be on the safe side, I would double check with your insurance company before you go to the specialist.

Hope that helps
