My latest bloodwork revealed my hemoglobin A1c levels put me in the pre-diabetic range. This was right after a mc, but my doctor said that wouldn't have caused it. He did say it could cause problems later on in pregnancy if I were to develop diabetes. I believe it increases your chances of developing pre-eclampsia and having to deliver early due to baby's higher birth weight. I'm not sure what else it can affect or how that changes if you already have diabetes before becoming pregnant.
My doc's prescription to me was the ever lovely "lose some weight!" so I've been really careful about what I'm eating an have lost a few pounds.
I'm assuming if your diabetes is under control, it shouldn't affect your ability to become pregnant. You may be considered a higher risk pregnancy so they may monitor you more closely, but I'm not aware of any reason you wouldn't be able to carry a baby.
