DH has low everything in regards to sperm - what can we do?

Postby kruddlopez » Wed Aug 09, 2017 7:56 am

Hi ladies!
It has been about 4 years since I've been to TWW - you ladies were amazing before and right now DH and I are really needing all the advice/support we can get! Little back story - we have a son (biologically mine), DH legally adopted him - so I have had 1 successful birth prior to marriage. We have been TTC #2 for 2 years on our own. Finally about 3 months ago I told DH maybe it was time to get things checked out, so we did - DH saw my fertility Dr in Houston, and we are in the process of actually accepting the results.

We found out DH has sperm issues every way around it. Low sperm count (.5 mil) so not even 1 million! Low motility of the .5 he does have, low morphology, unfavorable pH - you name it, it came back bad. I am going to post the results encase anyone is seeing something we are not! I have was also checked out and I am 100% clear to get pregnant physically, normal periods, ovulating every month, 31 day cycle, ovaries look good, can pretty much tell you exactly when I am ovulating, very in tune with my body. But I feel like if I expect DH to make some lifestyle changes, I am going to be right there with him doing it too!

So with all that being sad, we are not giving up hope - we both believe in the power of God more than medicine, but we definitely want to do everything possible to increase our chances!

We have an appointment next week with fertility Dr - but I would love to hear stories/advice/help/anything you ladies have that might help us, Dr's know a lot but I've found that sometimes another human being who has been through this can relate more! Today I am going raid the vitamin store - starting with pre-natals for me, Zinc & Vitamin C for DH - he is already taking Maca in high doses daily - I think now that the initial shock has wore off for us we are both ready to throw everything we have at this.

:) Hopeful!

I haven't braved the fertility specialist yet, but have you checked out FertilAid or Fertility Blend for men yet? I just ordered both the men and women varieties of FertilAid in hopes of it helping. They have great reviews, and also have specific additional men's supplements to address issues like low count.

Hey girl, we just got our tests results back this week with a low male factor as well. I have been doing some research and you can make significant improvements just with lifestyle changes, i.e. diet and exercise alone. We just stopped drinking alcohol and caffeine, as well as looking for a diet that are rich in antioxidants, zinc, vitamin e for my husband. Walnuts, eggs, broccoli and many more. I have found a bunch of good articles on pinterest . We are scheduled to do any analysis in a month so hopefully there is a big difference. Hopefully that helps. Sending baby dust.

Have him make and appointment to see a urologist. My hasband has low testosterone which makes his count terrible!!! I'm talking less than a million with like none even moving. We had no clue his levels were so low because he has none of the typical symptoms. His urologist put him on Clomid and every aspect of his count is beyond normal.

Thank you ladies!
We hadn't thought about the low testosterone being an issue because DH has an extremely high sex drive - but maybe that is something we should get checked, mentally noting to do ASAP lol! DH was supposed to go to the DR Sept 1st - but our fertility doctor is in Houston! And sadly their office was affected from the flood waters! Sooooo we are kinda in limbo right now with moving forward with the next steps for him! Haha but we are trying everything we can on our own to get his sperm count up until then!
DH cut out all alcohol (I wasn't a drinker before) he switched to boxers, no baths, taking his vitamins, he has started running with me for exercise. I have almost completely purged our cabinets of bad foods and replaced with fruits & veggies. He is putting in so much effort, it makes me feel so fortunate to have a husband who is trying, but also breaks my heart that he is having to try so hard at something that comes naturally to guys who don't even want kids! *I know I'm not supposed to think like that, but its hard sometimes! But having support here makes me want to stay positive! Wishing you all lots of baby dust! Hehe

We were blown away when we saw how low DHs levels were. I'm talking like lower than the low end of the charts. It's such an easy fix if it is low testosterone. DHs levels were normal within a month or two as well as his count.
