"Thick" semen

Postby Nkk15 » Wed Apr 01, 2015 9:24 am

My SO had a semen analysis done and it was found that he has "thick" semen. They say this can cause fertility issues but not always. Anyone else have experience with this?

Semen is supposed to liquefy within 20 mins or so. If you have DH take mucinex with gulfeisein (sorry wrong spelling but close enough) a couple times a day starting a week before you ovulate and drink lots of water, it should help the semen liquefy better. Definitely have him drink more water. You could also use the Mucinex as well to help with cm as well. I would only have you both use mucinex starting a week before O, and 2 days after. There's really no need to use it all month, also would not be good on your body. Make sure you know when you ovulate, like take your bbt. I don't trust opk's, as they don't work for me. i really hope this works for you. I think someone asked about this last week and Maddy mentioned mucinex works too. Good luck!

We are TTC also and DH was diagnosed with low T and so we did an SA. His also came back with high viscosity. Our midwife suggested he drink lots of water to make sure he is hydrated and lots of internet research and asking led me to the guaifenesin as well. I am 10 DPO on our 1st cycle with mucinex, so we shall see. This is our 8th cycle so far. We are supposed to do a repeat SA to make sure the results are accurate, and we will schedule that if this cycle is a no go and make sure he is hydrated well to get an accurate result.

I am not an expert at all, but from what I have read PGS NGS might be recommended in case of severe male factor combined (probably) with IVF.
