How common are multiple losses?

Postby Leelou » Wed Mar 30, 2011 3:05 pm

Hi, I miscarried close to 2 years ago in may.
I'm possibly pregnant right now but I am scared to even test as I think it will result in another miscarriage...

I can't seem to find any information on how common miscarriage after miscarriages are?
Can anyone shine any light and calm my nerves :(

Thanks in advance xx

I really just depends on the reason why you miscarried. Sometimes women have miscarriages just because something isn't right with the baby. Others might have a medical problem that causes them. I would talk to you dr to find out why the miscarriage happend.

GL and I hope you have a sticky bean.

Hi thanks for replying.

The dr already informed me when I had the miscarriage that it was just natural reasons. My question was, how common is it to have reoccuring miscarriages?

I know that a lot of ladies who've had miscarriages seem to either go on to have more miscarriages or healthy pregnancies, and I guess I just wanted to know what the odds were.

Thanks again.

MC's make you think all kinds of crazy stuff. I had 2 children already, then my MC and convinced myself I'd never be able to get preg or have a sticky bean ever again  It really makes you feel this way. Anyway this is my second pregnancy since my MC. I haven't MC since the one. So it's definately possible to continue to have healthy pregnancies after a MC. With my MC something was very wrong with my angel.

I'm so sorry for your loss and understand your difficult time x

I haven't had any children and so my miscarriage was my first :(

But the good news is, I'm 90% sure I'm pregnant again right now :)

3 days late with lovely food aversions and sickness, just very nervous about the future!

Oh well, I guess time will only tell, Thanks for your support x

I'm sorry for your loss.

I agree with Mommyofgirls and ladybearme2. It's hard not to wonder what your odds are after a miscarriage. But just like mentioned before it can occur due to several different reasons. I had DD1 and 4 years later miscarried. We tried again the month after and got pregnant. Now I'm 39w 5d and things have gone smoothly. So if you are pregnant... I know easier said then done but try to relax and enjoy. Know that it's natural to worry we all do!

I don't think the worry ever goes away again. I was so nieve when I first got pregnant +hpt meant I got to take home a baby after 9 months! I told the whole world... Then I was one of the unlucky ones who went on to have another loss after....

I was however lucky to get pregnant with my DD very shortly after my second loss, but the fear never left. I didn't tell anyone until I was 16weeks, not even our parents!

But the reasons for miscarriages vary so much (if you think about what all has to happen for a baby to develop it is increadable) I think that the odds remain the same for everyone until you have 3M/C's then usually testing is needed. But until then the odds are to same as someone who has not had any losses.

I had three m/c before I had my daughter. My Dr. labeled me with recurrent pregnancy loss and I was diagnosed with carrying a gene for blood clotting disorder. I took low dose aspirin and lots of red raspberry leaf tea. I really feel that combo helped me. But the previous posters are right, it all depends on why you are miscarrying. They usually wont' do testing until you've had three in a row because miscarriages are so common.

I'm so sorry for your loss :(

your chances of miscarrying after having one loss are the same as somebody who has never had a miscarriage.. around 15%. after two it goes up very slightly, then quite a bit more after three. I have had many, and there is no medical reason that they can find.
