Pos. Hpt after missed m/c....how long?

Postby bilson » Sun Apr 17, 2011 7:03 am

Hi ladies,

Just wondering how long you were seeing positive tests after you mc? Also, I had a beta done on Monday and the number had gone up since my ER experience the Sunday before. They told me they would refer me to an OB....but I havent heard anything back yet...

A little background....I started bleeding on Mar31 and went into emerg on Apr3 and was told I was likely having a missed abortion with a beta of 170. My beta on Apr1 was 430. Went in for u/s on Apr5 and was told that "it confirmed a loss". I was told to go in for blood work to make sure the numbers were going down as they should. So Monday's test was 387. Did another beta on Thurs....still waiting on those results. Poas last night and got a nice dark line on an IC. I am still bleeding and haven't stopped since Mar31.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...:)

I just want this process to be over so I can get back to normal for a bit before trying again!

Bilson,

I am so sorry for your loss. I do know exactly how you feel emotionally.
I regret I did not see your post sooner to reply.

I am concerned that you are still bleeding! From your post I am guess you did not have a DNC. I M/C @ 8 weeks and did not have a DNC either. I bleed for about a week and it took about 2 weeks before I my levels went down to normal.

I think getting the positive on the HPT is no big deal and your levels will probably go down in the next couple of days, BUT Does your doctor's office know you are still bleeding? Are you cramping as well? I would definately get in touch with them about that on Monday if you are still bleeding.

I hope may help some and that you are feeling better today.

Hi lunaluna - thanks so much for your reply :) I did speak with a nurse at my doc's office on Tuesday and she said they would be referring me to an OB...I didn't receive a call back the rest of the week, so I was planning on calling on Monday.

I told the nurse I was still bleeding at this point and it hasn't been heavy bleeding, I would call it light/medium. It seems to be tapering off today, which is a nice relief. I am cramping a little. The advice I got last Friday was to go to the ER only if I was bleeding heavily.

No.. I did not have a D&C..I figured I would bleed less considering I wasn't very far along.

Thanks again, it helps to know I am not alone :)

I'm so sorry for your loss. With my first loss (mmc 8w3d) it took exactly a month for my betas to go back to zero after the mc was complete. However, with betas that are going up and down like that, have they made sure that it's not an ectopic? I know that my RE was really concerned with my second loss when I had betas that were doing weird things.

so...my test results as of Thurs. - beta is 389..it was 397 on Monday. They are not going to refer me to an OB now...and I am awaiting their call to tell me when I should go back for another test....GRRRR! I hate this waiting game :x

Update again - they called me at around 3:30 letting me know that I WILL be referred and I will hear back for an appointment tomorrow. I will likely have to take meds or do a D&C.

Any thoughts on these options ladies?

I took cytotec (misoprostol) with my mmc and it wasn't too bad. The cramping was pretty intense the first day, but after that it was just like a bad period for the rest of the week and then light bleeding/spotting for another week. However, it worked and I was able to avoid the D&C like I wanted.

So here's the update...I went for another beta today. If my numbers are similar...I will be going the misoprostol route...

Hawkeye - would you advise taking time off work with this drug? I am a teacher....so I have to be "ON" for my job so to speak.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Bilson and for how long the process is taking.

I took misoprostol for two of my miscarriages for the same reason as Hawkeye, I wanted to avoid a D&C. Both times I waited to insert the medication until a Saturday morning and stayed at home the rest of the weekend. Most of the cramping and passing of clots was over by Sunday morning. It was helpful to stay at home so I could use the vicodin they gave me so the cramps weren't that bad. For both miscarriages, I was back at work with only moderate bleeding by Monday.

Take good care of yourself. :hugs:

Thank you Patty...I will be taking the meds tomorrow night...as I am worried it will kick in too quickly and make tomorrow at work a little too tough. I am thankful that we have a long weekend coming up, but I also am not looking forward to ruining my time with my family because I am feeling like crap. :(

I am very sorry for your losses ((hugs))
