Writing a letter to our sweet angels.

Postby Laticauda » Mon Apr 25, 2011 12:59 pm

I recently started seeing a counselor after my most recent loss. She suggested both DH and I write a letter to each of our angels to help give us closure. In each letter you start off with what you call the baby (i.e. angel baby '05, or something about the situation when you lost the baby, or the baby's name if you were far enough along to know that.)

Then you write, how you felt when you found out about the pregnancy. Hopes, dreams you had for the baby, and any fears that may have occurred.
How you felt when you discovered the loss (pain, guilt, missing baby, etc.)
Then you sign off with "Good-bye Baby, Love Mommy (or Daddy)"

Write one letter for each angel you have in heaven. You can keep the letters locked away, cremate them or bury them. You don't have to read eachother's letters, this way you can be completely open and honest without inadvertently censoring the letters.

I hope this can help others with closure for our lost angels.

Thank you for sharing. I'm definitely going to try this. My miscarriage was over a year ago but I still haven't gotten over it. I've gotten better but definitely not completely healed. I went to a therapist for awhile also but she wasn't very helpful and I found myself fighting back tears every visit. I don't feel comfortable crying in front of anyone but DH. It was such a sore subject to talk about with someone, also. I almost felt like it did more harm than good for me.

I hope counseling helps you out, though. I'm very sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is. Good luck to you & thank you for sharing :)
