how long did you wait? (did you listen to doc?)

Postby Rhondalynn77 » Thu May 01, 2014 11:05 pm

So when i saw my doc around the time i miscarried, she said the recommend that we wait 3 months to ttc again. I feel like i want to start to ttc after my first af. I think i may have ovulated around 2 weeks after m/c. but still waiting for af to show, i just stopped spotting from mc about 3 days ago. I am doing better, physically and emotionally and dont really know why we have to wait. I see my doc for followup on monday. my question is how long did your doc tell/suggest you wait after m/c (naturally or d&c) and how long did you actually?
Thanks

I think your body would know when it's ready, ya know? When I had my loss at 21 weeks, the doctor said we could start trying right away. I've heard both ways, so I'm not sure which way is 'correct'. I say that if you want to try after your first AF, I would :)

thanks mrsm, it is nice to hear what others were told. I agree about our bodies knowing when its time, I think its why some women take just a few weeks to get af after a loss and some take much longer.
I guess now i am waiting for af

My doc recommended waiting 2 cycles post-MC. I am currently on my second AF post-MC and we will start trying again this cycle. Sitting at CD6 today so now we are just waiting for AF to go away. haha.

Most drs will say 3 months but it's just a standard answer and really only for dating purposes should you get another bfp soon. Unless you had a molar or retained tissue there is no reason to wait more than a cycle or two if you feel ready. Sometimes the wait helps with the emotional recovery of a loss too but for me it made it harder.

I had to wait 6 weeks because I had surgery otherwise I wouldn't have waited at all. Everyone is different but you need to make the decision that's best for you.

thanks b,
we talked to my doc and she is very supportive of us just letting things happen naturally, she also said, there's also only a 25% chance of getting pregnant each month anyways. I am glad, i was stressing out about contraception and the whole bit. We will be ntnp until i feel ready to try again more proactively. so at least until af and maybe through next cycle we will ntnp. I also will be starting on metformin and hope to get my body a bit more balanced. (she will also do hormone/progesterone levels when we do get preg)

I had an ultrasound at 12 weeks which told me I had a missed MC. The baby stopped developing at 8 weeks and I had no idea anything was wrong. I took misoprostol and my OB told me I could start trying as soon as I wanted to. I'm hoping to try again soon but there are so many differing opinions when to TTC again.

mk, I had a very similar situation to yours, now we have decided to let God have control of this, if I get preg right away, then so be it. I waited a few months before starting to ttc last summer because i wanted to plan on when to deliver, little did we know that it would take more than a couple months to actually get pregnant, now I will take it when i can get it. I personally think if you miscarried naturally (even with misoprostol) then do what you feel is right. If you need to wait, then wait. Sometimes the emotional healing takes longer than the physical. now, my personal philosophy is that our bodies will cycle when they are ready for it to happen. (does that make sense?)

Rhondalynn77 that totally makes sense. I feel like trying again, even though soon after my loss, is what I need to move on. I will obviously never forget my experience with baby one but I'm very hopeful that I will have success soon. Fingers crossed. I am having a follow- up appointment next week to make sure the misoprostal worked and then plan on TTC again.

mk, i hope everything works out for you. Good luck, and let me know how your apt goes. This is an awful situation and experience, but there is a reason we have gone through this. (maybe to give us compassion for others who have gone through this too?) and while it is difficult, we will get through this and healing will come in time. I know what you mean about ttcing again to feel like you can move on, we are ntnp, but if i turn up preg before af even comes, i am ok with that.
