BFP or hcg from miscarriage?

Postby mamabear1 » Fri Sep 05, 2014 9:51 pm

Hi everyone. Sorry for this long post but I'm hoping someone might be able to share their thoughts on what's going on with me. I have blogged this as well - just hoping it might catch someone's eye.

Today I am 8dpo (I think) and despite my better judgement, I poas at 4pm yesterday. I got a bfp on a first response - faint but not a squinter. I immediately felt those feelings of excitement creep in but also felt some hesitation as it seemed too good to be true at this early stage and straight after my m/c

I was secretly buzzing for a short while until it dawned on me that this bfp is probably the remainder of the hcg from my m/c. Cue sadness and desperation. I so want to believe that this is the beginning of my rainbow baby, but I can't help but think 7dpo is just wayyyyy to early. I know it can happen to some but ....hmmmm I'm doubtful in this case.

FF says I O'd on 29 August. Given my ewcm and temps I figured it was either that day or the one before. Either way, it was only 10days before that I miscarried naturally (I was 10w5d. Baby's hb had stopped at 8wks) so I was surprised I O'd so soon after. I've read that hcg needs to be below 5 for ovulation to occur - which would be fantastic as it would tell me this is a real bfp. However, further google research tells me that this is not necessarily so and many have ovulated with much higher hcg levels. Very confusing.

My Dr hasn't done a blood test to monitor my hcg levels (something I'm a bit annoyed about now). He gave me a form to have it checked a week after he scanned me - so that would be in 2days. In light of my bfp I went and had it done today so that I will get the results early next week and hopefully have a follow up done to see if the hcg is increasing or decreasing.

I need to know NOW if this is my rainbow baby or not. The waiting is driving me crazy. I'm convincing myself more and more that it's not as I poas again with FMU today and got the same colour bfp - no progression which I thought there should be?????

Out of desperation I did another one today at midday  only to get the same result - bfp but no darker, but not lighter either.

My chart looks really odd too. No hills and valleys at all, just a slowly increasing curve. Nothing spectacular or telltale.

I've had mild cramping since ovulation - once or twice it lasted all day, other days it's just intermittant. My cervix has been high and soft since ovulation. It hasn't changed at all which I find interesting and which is why I tested early.

So I'm thinking my bfp is:

a) remainder hcg left from my m/c and it's just taking a while to decline as I know it can.

b) it's a VERY early bfp and the beginnings of a rainbow baby. The hcg is just taking a while to build up as it's so early.

c) there is some hcg from m/c that is declining BUT I DO have a rainbow baby implanting which is giving me some new hcg hence why the colour of my line is stable and not reducing or increasing. They're balancing each other out.

I'm sorry this is so long, I tend to go on a bit! I'm really hoping someone out their can shed some light on this for me. What do you all think?

Hmmm thats a tough one. I had a d&c done aug 18 at 11w4d. I have taken 2 cheapies sinc then, the 2nd one being fri and I am still getting a suuuuuper faint line. I havent had bw done either even though dr said she would. That would be awesome if this is your rainbow :) and it does happen quite often. When will you find out you bw results?

Hi, it is quiet over here, unfortunately....especially when I feel like we need the support more than anyone! I'm so sorry for your loss. Pregnancy tests can be very frustrating after m/c. I know at least myself and one other girl on here had HCG lingering on for MONTHS after our miscarriages. The best way to know is through the blood draws. Hopefully it's going up for you and this is your Rainbow!!!!!!.................... but if it is not, and it is going down sllloooowwwwlllyy, make sure you talk to your doctor about the possibility of retained tissue.

Thanks so much for replying ladies. I don't feel so alone over hear now :)

Turns out it was just mc hcg. Such a disappointment. I had such preg symptoms too but stupidly it didn't occur to me that that was because my body still thought it was pregnant.

My bloodwork came back at 10. So clearly the first response tests detect a lot lower than the 25miu I thought they did. I was still getting positives for a few days after but I stopped testing as I figured it was ridiculous. I was just trying to hang onto my two lines :(

I thought my ob would want me to have more bw as they kept talking about getting it to zero, but I've not heard back from them.

On the plus side, I'm soooo happy that af arrived today. It's given me a little hope. I'm trying to trust in my body to give me my healthy baby soon. My body has been doing everything it needs to very effectively with previous af cycles and even this mc....I just need it to make me a very healthy baby.....like NOW DAMN IT ;)

Yay for a new cycle and your body getting ready to try again! I swear getting AF is both good and bad. Bad because no BFP, but good because the wait is over and you get to start fresh again.

Yep I definitely have those mixed feelings. I am glad I'm getting back on track though. Those days/weeks of knowing my baby had gone but that I could do nothing but wait were a killer.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news- but if your HCG is 10- then it may not be your period. Either way it's a good thing though. I bled 2 weeks post D&C. I thought it was AF but it wasn't. I was still testing pos on the HCG tests. If you test positive on one today with AF it's probably tissue. I think your HCG needs to be less then 5 to get a period. After I had that mini period- that the doc swore it was a period- I got another period like 6-7 weeks later and it was the worst period of my life. I thought I was dying. So, don't be surprised if things are off. I know its super frustrating. I wanted to be pregnant like asap after the loss. I felt robbed and wanted to replace what was lost. I am thankful now it did take so long, it forced me to totally and 100% grieve the baby. And I am starting to feel whole again. One day at a time love. You will get through this.

Thank you stardancer. It really is such a test of patience.

That hcg level of 10 was after my mc but before my 1st AF. Four days after I had the bloodwork, my ob called me to say it was 10. So it would have reduced even further in those 4days. He said it should be down to 0 later in the week. Sure enough it was as this is when current AF started. I had already had a scan prior to my bloodwork and luckily I didn't have any retained tissue.

Still waiting though. AF has just finished so I'm just waiting to O so I can really feel back in the game. I'm actually looking forward to the TWW. Just to feel that hope again of 'maybe I could be pregnant' will be a nice place to be. At least that's what I say now!
