Question about yeast infection. Help!

Postby Mandy_Jane » Tue Mar 03, 2009 12:29 pm

Ok, I am taking amoxicillan right now and pretty darn sure I am getting a yeast infection. I am due to ovulate in about 5 days. I have two questions.

1. Would a yeast infection cause my vagina to be a hostile environment for the little spermies? (More so than usual)

2. If I go ahead and use a one dose Monistat treatment, would that make the situation in there even worse for the sperm?

I just don't know what to do. I feel like I am doomed for this cycle to be a BFN. Do you know if you can conceive when you have a yeast infection? Any advice would be appreciated!

Are you o'ing right now? If not you could use the one day monostat suppositorie. Also are the yeastie's hostile to sperm too?

I am not O'ing right now, but probably will within the next 4-5 days. I guess I will go ahead and get the Monistat 1 day treatment. Maybe it will be mostly cleared up by the time I O? But, I know the best time for BD is 2 days before O, so I hope the Monistat won't kill the sperm! I don't know if the yeast hurts the sperm or not. I was trying to look it up on the internet but can't really figure it out. Thanks for responding though!

I say go ahead and get the medicine. If you don't treat the yeast infection and bd you could infect dh and then he could re-infect you after yours clears up. I don't think dh wants to deal with a yeast infection and I doubt you'd want it 2 times.

That's very true. I hadn't thought of that. I am going to go get some Monistat tonight and hope it works soon!

whenever I have to take antibiotics, I also take a high quality probiotic. for now cut out all sugar and stuff like white bread, Im not sure if the yeast infection affects conception but I wouldnt want that monistat up in there if I was actually ovulating because I think the cream base would mess with sperm. maybe ask your doc about a diflucan ?

good luck

I would also try to take diflucan but not sure how that affects ttc. That's why January was out for me :(

Try eating yogurt first. It should help if the infection hasnt gotten out of control! It always works for me.

depending on how severe the yeast infection is too you could always use yogurt. *warning tmi* if you soak a tampon in yogurt (not light yogurt, and not the kind with fruit on the bottom. i have used stoneyfield brand with success before, it has to be regular yogurt with all the live cultures). you just need to soak it for a few minutes, itll be cold, itll be thick and not feel so good, but then just use the tampon like you would on your period. change it every 4-6 hours until your yeast infection clears up. it is pretty messy so make sure youre wearing a pantyliner or pad. good luck!

fortune313 just gave you excellent advice....do it, lady.

Also....do you have a super sperm freindly lubricant, like preseed or whatever??? Because if you do, I'd use it for sure!! The Yeasties will dry you out very much so and I think that lack of really nice fertile CM could maybe hurt your chances if anything...I don't know?? So, use the yogurt, then, when you are fertile and it's time for BD, use the preseed or other nice "fertile CM like" lubricant....

GL GL GL GL GL GL and sorry you're a yeastie beastie (as my DH calls it!) but don't worry....lots of :babydustg: your way and I hope for your BFP soon soon soon!!!

not sure about what you should do right now... but in the future whenever you take antibiotics combine it with a dose of acidophilus. I use it everytime cause it balances the bacteria/yeast. I just know if I don't take it with the A.biotics I end up with a yeast infection EVERYTIME!!

Hope that helps in the future and that you aren't out this month!
