VERY faint positive then negative?? Can it be?!

Postby MamaLynseyLoo » Tue Aug 29, 2017 11:40 pm

I've been using my Easy @ Home cheapies for tracking my ovulation. I started testing around CD 8 and got a close to positive on CD 13 then got my positive opk (same color not darker than control) on CD 14. I continued to test and it stayed consistently positive for CD 14,15,and 16. I read that several days with positive opks like that could be a pregnancy. I used my easy @ home HCG test and had a VERY faint positive around 4pm. I tested again at 8pm and 10pm and they were negative. The first was definitely not an evap, it showed within one minute. Could it be true?? Why would the next two be totally negative?? I'm so confused!!

Your urine was probably too diluted...use fmu and test again..that looks like the start of a bfp

Where are you in your cycle? Are you just past the 3 positive OPKs? With 3d of positive opks, you likely O'd ~CD16 (~2d past first + test). If you are less than CD23 or CD24, it's probably way too early for a pregnancy test, and that line is likely an evap. However, if you are least CD24, then keep testing for a few days.

FWIW: I had positive opks for several days surrounding O (only temp will confirm when O actually happens) on most cycles while I was charting/temping.

I get 3 days of positive opk's every few cycles (usually it's 2 days). You are likely right around O, so get busy!

As for the line, those tests and wondfos are from the same manufacturer and they tend to do that every once in a while. If you were near AF, I'd say that does look like the start of a bfp, but if you're thinking it's a pregnancy from last cycle, 1. you would be getting clear lines by now, regardless of urine concentration, and 2. (assuming those opk's were picking up HCG) you would likely have had consistent dark opks this whole cycle. This is all assuming you took the hpt right after the positive opk's...

I was thinking it may have been a positive from last cycle, but totally didnt think about the fact that the lines would be distinct by then...duh lol There is NO way it would have been positive from this cycle already! Im on CD17 today and I tested again this morning with FMU and still nothing. I would have been in literal shock if it was a real positive lol

Thanks BeeCee! I *thought* O was on CD14 so I was really excited because we covered my window really well this month. Not so much now if my O is today/tomorrow. Ugh. We'll DTD today for sure but possibly already missed the chance this month.

Do you have a history of Oing on the same day as your first positive? Most often it's the next day or even two days later. I consistently O two days after my positive. This cycle I got 3 days of positives and O'd on that third day. So my best guess for you would be O on CD 15, but it could be 14 or 16.

A good way to know if you are after O is to check your cm. If you're dry, or it's sticky/creamy with no stretch, you've almost definitely O'd (assuming you have regular ovulatory cycles, not PCOS or something).

Ive only been off the mirena for two cycles now but both times I had positive OPKs on CD 14. Last month my CM was right on target but ive been sick this week so everything is off for me including my CM lol I wish I could track my BBT but I have a super erratic sleep schedule so it wouldnt be an accurate determination for me :(

I got positive opk's on CD 14, O'd on CD 16 for the first 3 months after my mirena removal. After that, it went back to O happening anywhere from CD 15 to 23. It was SO nice for awhile there to know exactly when I'd O!

In my months of charting, I O'd anywhere from 36-72hr after the first +opk. Rule of thumb is typically 24-48hrs after first +, but can be anywhere from 12-96hr. I agree with BeeCee... with multiple days of + opks, you're more likely to have O'd on CD15 or CD16, not on the day of the first one. And remember, sperm can live up to 5-6d, so even if O was CD16 or CD17, if you BD'd anytime after CD11, you'll still have a decent shot. But on the flip side, even with "perfect" timing, you're only ~20% likely to get pregnant on any given cycle. It's all a bit of a crapshoot... *sigh*

If you want to confirm if/when you O, I'd suggest you add temping to your charting regimen next month, if you don't get a BFP this month.

Rolocat I wish BBT was an option for me! I have a very crazy sleep schedule due to my insomnia, so I never wake at the same time and I don't sleep for more than two hours straight without waking up or getting up. From what I understand, you need to temp at the same time every day upon first waking up, so I doubt it would be very accurate for me :(

If you've never tried it, it may be worth giving it a go. Some people have to follow the guidelines exactly, but I'd say most people don't follow them exactly!

For example, when I'm temping (right now I only do 6 days or so around O because I know my cycles so I'm able to confirm O that way without obsessing over my temps during my LP), I aim for 7:30 AM. Often it's near there, but sometimes it's 6am and i don't go back to sleep. Sometime I temp both times and put in whatever number fits best. It's the overall picture of your graph that's important, not individual temps. Some people do find that their temps change a lot over an hour or two, but mine really don't, so I can still show a clear ovulation pattern with short sleep or messed up times. Just some food for thought. ;)
