Hey ladies - for an update.

Thursday was DH's followup with the urologist. He does have a "significant" varicocele on the left and another on the right. His doctor is really straight forward and honest, and we love that. He told him that he could do the surgery and check that box off our list. But, he is not sure it is going to do much good. Apparently the recovery can be a bit difficult, especially when you have both sides done. He was appalled that the RE even did the second IUI, as the SA results were horrible. He's afraid that doing the surgery could do more harm than good. He said that we would not be able to conceive naturally, surgery or no surgery.

I called my RE and they would like us to come in and meet with them about next options. So, I have to call them on Monday and schedule that. We have an appointment with another RE on March 22nd for a second opinion.

Honestly, there is no way that would could afford IVF. So, it's been a bit of a difficult pill to swallow. We didn't even bother with the Jan. 26th cycle, as we were told that IUI just isn't going to work for us.

Danielle - so sorry to hear about your loss. :hugs: Are you going to try again right away?

Zaney- Thanks for the update! I hope something positive comes of your upcoming appointments. Are they saying for sure you'll need IVF, I think I remember hearing something about them being able to extract the sperm from a man when varicose are involved. I wonder if that would be an option. Or perhaps there is some kind of funding you would be eligible for. My fingers are crossed for you.

As for me things are going pretty good. Liam is one month old already, time is just flying by. He's a great baby. I will try to figure out how to add some pictures to share with you all!

Hope everyone else is making out ok.

Hi, ladies!

BOTB: 1 month already?!?! LOVE the pictures. Thank you for sharing. He is so precious! Get some baby snuggles in for me :)

Zaney: Thank you...yes, we are trying right away! I don't want to waste any time plus the lost was pretty early so my body is bouncing back pretty quickly which I'm thankful for. TTC helps keep my mind off of the loss. I'm sorry about the news... :hugs: I'm glad you're seeing someone who is being open with you though. What do you feel like your next step will be? Definitely get a second opinion. Have you ever though about maybe setting up a Gofundme account? Maybe fostering?

Just an update ladies....

My March 22 appointment at the new clinic got moved up to February 9th. We met with the RE at the Center for Reproductive Medicine in Mobile, AL. (We are now going out of state - but this clinic is top in the nation and it's only an extra 30 minutes from where we were) We started with over an hour meeting, going through our history and everything that we've done this far. His recommendation is that IUI would not work for us and we would need to proceed with IVF. He wanted to go ahead and do a SA that day with the possibility of freezing backup for treatment. We did that, and while waiting on results we spent about 45 minutes meeting with the IVF Financial Counselor.

We finally got news while in that meeting that the SA was "pretty darn good" and they would have two vials to freeze for backup. We then had to do FDA required bloodwork to freeze the backup. Geesh - that's some expensive blood work!

The IVF Coordinator Nurse was out that day so we were to call her the next day. That evening though, the RE called to give us the results of the SA and he was very happy and optimistic.

The next day we spoke to the IVF Coordinator, and we are set up to begin our first IVF cycle with an egg retrieval around April 24th.

Now comes the fun part, figuring out how to pay the large price tag. We've been searching all kinds of discount programs and such. My insurance offers a discount program - but only with certain doctors and the closest to me are 6+ hours away. So, no luck with that. The IVF Coordinator has been emailing me with drug costs, etc.

This journey is about to get crazy.
