Hair loss after BFP?!!!

Postby Sen » Tue Oct 16, 2012 9:51 am

Hi Ladies, have any of you suffered from hair loss after getting a BFP or having a m/c?

I got my BFP in August, which ended in m/c in September.
I noticed right from the first day I fell pregnant that my hair was falling out!!

It is STILL falling out (all over so no bald spots yet), im freaking out!! HELP!

I'm sorry Sen I had a m/c but didn't have the hair loss problem...one thing I did get after the m/c were dry spots on my face that still haven't gone away! My mother did experience hair loss when using bc back in the days but there was nothing she could do about it....wish I could be of more help just didn't want to read and run...maybe ask a hair stylist?

have you ever had your thyroid checked?

i've heard one in eight women have thyroid problems and only 40% know it. ask to have your TSH checked (simple blood test). it needs to be between 1 and 2 to get pregnant and carry to term. dr's will tell you it's normal any where up to 5 but really you want it under 2 so get the number, don't accept it if they just say it's normal.

when you're pregnant, if you have thyroid problems, your thyroid will go wonky. I had to have my thyroid meds upped 3x during my pregnancy.
(pregnant women really have to watch their tsh because most do need increases to their meds, even very very early on)

When my level is too high or two low i lose hair, that's what made me think of that.

also, having a TSH that's too low or two high can make getting pregnant crazy hard (i had 40+ day cycles if my tsh was low, low thyroid means a higher TSH number. High thyroid means a lower TSH number so it's backward of what you might think) and can actually cause miscarriage.

for sure get it checked out :)

Thank you for your responses ladies.
Phanny, I know what you mean about the acne! Mine was down my neck and all across my chest! They only started to vanish after I finished my 1st AF post the m/c. How are you? What CD are you?

Wannagirl2 - Thank you for sharing that, it is definately something I will speak to my doctor about. x

When I was pregnant with my DD I experienced the worst hair loss ever. I had bald spots ranging from a dime to a golf ball. I had no thyroid problems at all. My blood tests came back normal. That just happened to be a symptom I got with her. This time around I have no problems with hair loss if anything its thicker and more shiny. There is almost no information out there about hair loss during pregnancy just post partum but I wanted to say I have been there and I know the feeling of dread and being scared something else may be wrong then just pregnancy hormones. I am always around if you experience this sxs again and need to ask questions.

Thank you for responding oktober! It's pretty scary when you brush your hair and end up with a handful of strands :(

I can't say much about BFP, but your daily routine much affect on hair loss. Stress is the main cause of hair loss. I suggest once visit your near dematologist to know about the real cause of hair loss.
