Officially 1 year - best next steps?

Postby Snuggles » Tue Nov 27, 2012 11:22 am

Hello,

It's been a year now since DH and I have been TTC and we've only had one suspected chemical pregnancy the whole time. The OBGYN gave me lab orders to check my day21 progestrone 4 months ago due to consistent mid-cycle bleeding, but I have irregular cycles and we haven't been able to catch the surge precisely enough to get a valid reading. (Charting confirms that I am ovulating though)

I was thinking that there was no point in making an appointment until I get those labs done along with a thyroid check they ordered, but now I'm thinking that they could go ahead and start analysis on DH to rule male factor out.

How do I go about this? Should DH and I make an appointment together? Can my OB office run those tests or should we go to an RE?

Sorry for being to clueless on this - we're both pretty overwhelmed.

Thanks in advance!

Well, your OB can definitely run some tests on you. But, if you really want to get some answers from someone who specializes in infertility, I would recommend calling an RE. I think you will save yourself some time by just going to an RE to start with. That is, if there is an RE in your area. If there isn't, perhaps it would be best to start with whatever testing the OB will do for you.

I know it can be overwhelming to get started at an RE and looking in to why you haven't yet gotten pregnant, but knowledge is power (cheesy, but true!), and the more you know about your body, the better your chances! Good luck!

Hi Snuggles! I'm right there with you. My husband just got his SA done. He got his primary care doc to order the test. It wasn't covered by insurance but it wasn't too expensive. A primary care doc can interpret the results for you and let you know if anything looks abnormal. Then, you can head to a specialist if it looks like he has an issue. Doing it that way could save some $$ on crazy specialist bills.....

Wish I had some advice...but just replying to let you know I am in the same boat. Been about a year now, but I cant get in to see doc for another month and this month for the first time i've gotten mid cycle bleeding too. BBT charting shows ovulation is happening as well. Ugh, its frustrating.

Hope everything works out for you and you get a bfp soon!
