5'5" and 180 pounds-need to lose 35 pounds-any advice?

Postby bbpac » Mon Oct 12, 2009 4:49 pm

I have been ttc for over a year and I had a m/c in June. I have gained so much weight the last 4 yrs or so and I want a baby so bad, but I also need to lose weight for my physical and mental health! I just saw this board and thought I would see if anyone would give me some advice? I am worried about messing up my cycles due to changing my diet and exercising. ANyone talked to their doctor about this? Anyone in similar boat and want to be buddies?

Hello! I am in a similar boat... I actually have a friend that is a personal trainer so he is going to give me some exercises and a nutrition plan to follow... he said following the plan it is possible to lose up to 35 lbs in 2 months (safely). I am meeting with him on October 24th. I have kinda come to the decision that even though we have been TTC for 6 months I am going to put my health first and if I happen to conceive while doing so then great, if not, in a couple months I'll start again! I would be more than happy to be your buddy and share any helpful hints I may get!

car pan, you are lucky to have a friend who can give you the secrets! I guess it is not really a secret on how to lose weight, but doing it safely and keeping it off is important to me! I talked to my hubby about this same stuff. I told him I think I need to start focusing on losing weight instead of TTC and hope for the best. He was hesitant, but he is very supportive and will agree with what he thinks is best for me. I have ben so down about my appearance and I am worrid about my physcial and mental health in reguards to my weight...so it is definitly important I lose some pounds! I did find this website called peertrainer.com and it has so many great articles and tip and support groups...I have only skimmed the surface but I did sign up for the free stuff with the daily tips to email etc. You might want to check it out. I think reading those daily emails, but help me stay on track. The website seems very realistic, it does not promote crash diets or anything.

I am 29, DH is 33. We are TTC #1! I need to lose roughly 35 pounds.

I would LOVE to take any info I can get from you about what your friend says! I am so glad you posted!

I will definately post what I find out... since we are both extremely busy next saturday (24th) is the first time I will actually get to meet with him about that... so far the biggest thing he has told me is cut bad carbs but you need some carbs like a baked potato is good but just add pepper... don't add a ton of butter and sour cream. eat lots of veggies and don't forget about lots of protein especially in the morning. and eat at least 3 times a day. but when I get the diet plan and exercise plan I will tell more :D

Hi! Can I join you? We've been TTC #2 but have been unsuccessful so far (about six months). I need to lose about 30 lbs too. I have decided to put TTCing on hold so I can get healthy. I just joined a free website called fitday.com which helps track weight, measurements, activity and calories etc. It's been pretty good but it doesn't seem to have the support and incentive I need. It is a good tool though. I'm going to check out peertrainer as well!

Anyway, hopefully we can all lose some weight together! My husband, daughter and I are living in South Korea at the moment so its a bit harder to buy low fat foods here (although Korean food is generally quite healthy). I'm also busy with my 21 month old daughter but I need to stop making excuses! Haha! Any encouragement would be greatly appreciated!

Ok, here's the deal

To lose weight and tone muscle

Breakfast/8:00ish/1 serv protein and 1 serv carb
Lunch/12ish/1 serv protein and 1 serv carb
Afternoon/4ish/ 1 serv carb
Dinner/8ish/1 serv protein and 1 serv carb

Dont think the times are as important as approximately every 4 hours...

Proteins:
Egg Whites (4-5 or 1/2 cup)
Turkey Breast [no deli meat] (4 oz)
Fresh Chicken Breast (4 oz)
Fish [no shellfish] (5-6 oz)
Tuna [low sodium] (1 can)
Sirlion Steak/ Filet Mignon (4 oz, 2X/week)

Carbs:
Baked Potato (7-8oz)
Sweet Potato (5-6oz)
Oatmeal (1/2 cup dry weight)
Cream of Wheat (1-2oz)
Cream of Rice (1-2oz)
Pasta (1.5-2oz dry weight)
Rice (1/2-3/4 cup cooked)
No Salt Bread (2 slices)

All green veggies are FREE
Limit corn, peas, tomatoes, carrots [high sugar]
Avoid canned because high salt
Avoid dressings [high salt]

My friend said biggest thing is to cut out as much salt as possible (there are salt free alternatives- actually a lot which I was surprised to find!).
Also, watch portion sizes, measure according to serving suggestions above.

This is a start for anyone who is interested. I will later post the NO list and the SHOPPING list. If anyone is interested I will also post the exercise plan later.

I haven't really started this plan hard core but I have started trying a few things and exercising the past week and don't notice a diff in weight but notice a huge diff in appearance and the way clothes fit....

Let me know what you think! Its actually quite doable (salt is hard at first but gets easier).

Thanks so much! I am reading Eat to Live and Eat for Health right now. I am doing more fruits and veges and less salt, processed foods, dairy and meat. I just started as well adn hope to find a happy medium so I can make it a lifestyle and not just a diet. Your info is great! Can't wait to hear more.

Hi Erin,

It's Ziggy-we're on another site together but thought I'd post this diet question here. I noticed the above diet uses egg whites. Do they avoid egg yolks because of the fat? and also do you avoid all fats like butter, cheese, dairy, oils, nuts, avocado, etc on this diet.

Thanks
Ziggy

Hey!
I am not sure why egg yolks are avoided but I'd say that is probably the reason. And yes Butter/Oil/Avocados/etc are to be avoided. Below I will post the NO list and the SHOPPING list. He also said it really just depends on how much weight you want to lose as to how closely you follow the diet. I have been following it pretty closely and doing an exercise plan and have lost about 5 lbs in a week so it does work! It is hard at first but I am actually starting to get used to it and I think I should be able to follow it to some extent long term.

NO List
Salt
Regular Ketchup
Sugar
Dressings
Fried Food
Fruit Juices
Cheese
Oil
Dairy Products (except skim milk)
Pork
Alcohol
Butter
Margarine
Yogurt
Avocados
Salty Sauces

Here are the ones that it says no but my friend said if you aren't trying to lose too much weight (less than 30 lbs) its not as big of a deal but they are no nos because of the amound of sugar (I think)

Limit fruits
celery
limit tomatoes
peas
corn

Hope this helps a little!
