BMI and trying to conceive

Postby shells » Fri Mar 07, 2008 1:21 pm

Just thought I'd share with you all some information I read recently. The article stated that the optimal Body Mass Index or BMI for conception is between 17% and 21%.

When I calculated mine it was 24% which is in the healthy weight range. My acupuncturist told me I needed to lose 10 - 15 pounds on my first visit just eyeballing me not putting me on the scale. That would put me at about 130 pounds (I'm 5'6") and in that optimal BMI range.

Anyone else heard of this or read of this before? I'm trying everything!!!

wow, i can't say I agree with that at all...that bottom number, especially! According to recent studies, those with BMI's under 18 have an increased risk of miscarriage, so don't think 17% should be an 'optimal' BMI range.

I think you can try it if you like, but you're already a healthy weight...if you go for it, don't lose too fast, otherwise you may mess up your cycles/ov.
