Need Advice... First time on the site.

Postby Stephypz » Tue Nov 18, 2014 1:28 pm

Hello Everyone! This is the first time i am writing on this website. I have been TTC for a little over a yr now. It is really hard for me because i married into a really big family and all my husbands cousins are having babies and we still haven't had a baby yet. So it has been a little depressing for me. I am happy for them of course but it always makes me wonder what i am doing wrong. And i have an irregular cycle. So i get a period every other month if that. I have gone to the gyno and have taken all the tests from blood tests to ultrasounds and everything came back normal. So i have no idea what it could be. Please help. I have no one else i can talk to.

Thanks.

To be honest, I don't really know how to chart correctly. My doctor taught me how to chart with a normal period. But i am not sure how to chart... my last cycle was October 8-October 10. And i have had nothing since then so i am not sure how to chart.

When I was younger my period was very irregular where I would have a period for 3 months and then skip then have it for 3 months and then skip. I would just keep tracking your periods and what not because even if you're irregular the more information you have the more knowledge you will have to help you get your BFP. Sorry, that probably wasn't helpful. I'm new TTC, too. Baby dust to you and good luck!!

I say definitely chart! I, and a lot of other ladies on the site, use fertilityfriend.com. Helpful little app you can dl onto your phone. I didn't used to know how to chart either, but the site and app are really self explanatory and easy to learn once you play around with it for a bit.

If you stay on the site and keep asking advice, you'll be an expert soon!
Do you check your cervical mucus/placement?
If you don't already, keeping record of your BBT is easy, fast, and helps tremendously to pinpoint when/if you ovulate.
Do you have ovulation predictor tests/kit? Not necessary, but they help and you can get them really cheap online.
Keeping a log of how you feel throughout your cycle, like making note of symptoms that are out of the ordinary for you, will also help you because you can go back to old cycles and say, "Did this happen last month, too? Or is it new?"

It all seemed overwhelming to me at first when I started, but now it's pretty fun. And having other people to share it with on here makes it more fun!

Good luck to you!

EDIT: I forgot to add - I've had extremely irregular cycles, ranging anywhere from 29 days to 92 days! Haven't been able to get tested by a doctor, we don't have health insurance (I know, I know, but my husband's a contractor) so I just have to try to make lifestyle changes and get myself healthy with common sense and better choices. I haven't been very nice to my body the last couple years, and TTC has opened my eyes to my stupidity!

Thanks Ladies for all the helpful advice. I am still new to TTC so a lot of the abbreviations i am not up to date with. And im in the process of changing my insurance company so i haven't been to the doctor yet. But another reason why i haven't gone to the doctor since it has been and year and i haven't gotten pregnant is because i don't feel like 100% we were trying. So i am going to give it a little more time and see how it goes. I figured it would take me a little bit of time because i haven't been very healthy when we started trying. I wasn't working out or eating as healthy as i should. So i needed to get an exercise plan and come up with a better eating method. I am a very picky eater so that is not helpful. I am going to try to start charting. i mean i keep track of when my cycles are and the days that we are intimate but it is like i am still lost. I definitely did not think that TTC was going to be this hard. But of course everyone's journey is different. But i am so glad i found this website. Everyone around me just keeps telling me to relax and it will happen when it happens and don't get upset if it doesn't happen when you want it to. You grow tired of hearing these things.

I recommend going to fertilityfriend.com you can chart there and it will take you step by step how to chart. or you can buy or check out at the library a book called "Taking charge of your fertility" . Both are awesome resources.

I completely understand the getting tired of "relax". Unfortunately, you'll keep hearing it. Start charting, get to know your cycle and that should increase your chances immensely.

Hi,

I was pleased to see your board as it's the sane story as me! I was looking on her for someone to share everything with and wasn't sure wether to start a new board or not :)

We have been TTC for 12 months now, I went to the doctor last week, blood test came back clear.
Next step is for my partner to have a semen analysis, but I do worry my irregular cycle is to blame, in the last year it has ranged from 27 days to 52 days!

I have been using an app called OVIA fertility but I think I will DL fertility friend if that is what you guys recommend :)

Have you ever tried OPKs with your irregular cycle? I don't know if it's worth trying, and they are so pricey too!

Timing is of the essence when ttc, so if you do not know when you are ovulating your chances are ttc will take longer. Charting your temp and cervical mucus (cm) should help you pin point ovulation and increase the chances of getting pregnant by timing intercourse correctly.

My sis used to have irregular cycle 45-60 days, but from charting she learned the length of her luteal phase (lp) and once she oed she knew exactly when her period would arrive every cycle. She now has a beautiful 11 month old baby boy, albeit without trying to ttc.

While your cycles might be irregular vis-a-vis the regular text book cycle, there probably is a pattern to yours; temping should help with that.

I wish you both good luck on your journeys and take advantage of the support you can get on this site from all the wonderful women who are here on the same journey.

Hello Ladies! I have been going through so much these past few months with school and work that i have not had time to come on. But finally here i am. Also i have been a little upset with everything going on with ttc. We have been trying for about a year and a half now and nothing. I have irregular periods. Some months i will get nothing and other months i will get some spotting or bloody discharge for like 2 days and that is it. So i don't know what to do. I recently purchased ovulation kits but i don't know if i should even bother. i don't know how i would go about taking the tests. When would i take them? i feel like they are meant more for woman that actually get their period at least a little bit.

Any advice would be helpful. I just don't know where to go from here.

You really should see a specialist, because you probably aren't ovulating at all. Really long cycles, coupled with a really short menstrual period, is indicative that something is not right.

I hope you get some answers soon.

Thanks. Yeah this has been going on for a while now. But i don't know what to do because i had a lot of tests done and ultrasounds. The doctor told me my hormone levels are fine. Everything is fine with my ovaries and from what they see everything with me is fine. they say i am ovulating but i don't know. I have an appointment set up with my doctor for may because that is all he had available. My husband got checked out by his doctor already and they said he was fine. But i don't know anything else i can do. Any advice would be helpful. As much as it hurts to say this i am at a crossroads where i don't know what to do. I literally broke down when i went to my doctors office after a year of trying and just cried. I did not want to hear from my doctor that something was wrong. My entire life i have wanted nothing more than to be a mother. So to think my dream would be taken away was defestating.

I don't understand how they can say everything is fine if you have 2 day periods, every other month. Maybe try another doctor and get a second opinion.
