Never been pregnant :( TTC for 2 years

Postby afireinside » Tue May 17, 2011 4:51 pm

I'm 30 and have been TTC Baby #1 for 2 years with DH. We're now working with a Fertility Specialist but I think it's so odd that DH's sperm is great, my tubes aren't blocked and I have lots of healthy eggs (and I ovulate every cycle) and I've never had ONE :bfp: - not saying I'd like a chemical pregnancy or god forbid a miscarriage but for those of you who have had children does this seem weird?? I've tried 4 rounds of Clomid, no luck and now on my first round of Femara. I'd like to keep my hopes up but I swear if I didn't have BAD luck I'd have no luck at all.... I just don't know how to keep my hopes up....

Sweetie, good luck with your appointment. I know it's hard trying to keep your hopes up. I get really down myself and when I do, I have to think of things to be thankful for, such as my health, my relationship, my family, etc. Another thing I sometimes do is think about how excited I am going to be when I see those two pink lines and what it's going to be like to hold my baby for the first time. Something about having those thoughts and visions gives me hope to not lose the faith. I wish you the best of luck in your journey. XO, Luna

Thank you Luna - I don't have an appointment right now (have had MANY over these past 6 months and about every test done) but I'm on my first round of Femara so I'm trying to stay positive but after 2 years TTC and 4 unsuccessful rounds of Clomid it's hard not to get down. BUT I don't have PCOS, no blocked tubes and DH's sperm is great so I guess it could be worse... I just don't get why it's taking us sooo long - for 2 years I've been on pre-natal vitamins, I haven't drank alcohol/caffeine (DH has cut down A LOT) and we're tracking ovulation so I'm just feeling a little let down.....

Hopefully Femara is what we need :jump:

I hope you get your :bfp: GODSPEED! Just remember though, a lot of people have gone years with nothing and then out of no where a baby is on the way! It does happen and it can happen to you! Remember that! I know it may sound hoaxy but a lot of times when I'm working out or going for walks I repeat to myself over and over....I'm going to have a baby. I am going to have a baby. . . sometimes I change it up and say I'm gonna get pregnant and have a healthy baby, you know what I'm saying. You get the picture! Sometimes doing that really helps me emotionally! Good LUCK!

Thanks Luna - you've really given me a positive outlook and I did go on a walk last night to clear my mind and tried to give myself a "pep talk". :D

Welcome my fellow Canadian :hi:

Last cycle I did not get a BFP but I'm onto another TWW and testing tomorrow!!!

What's a LAP?

I've done 4 rounds of Clomid and I'm on my first of Femara (think I ovulated out of both ovaries - yipee!!). I've had all the u/s you can have done and a HSG and all is clear. We have unexplained infertility b/c DH has lots of good swimmers and I have lots of good eggs - very frustrating!! How long have you been TTC? Is this for bay #1 for you? (it is for me)

I am crossing everything for you!!! I hope you get a BFP!!!! :)

I LAP- laproscopy.. it is when they go into your tubes to check for endometrious ( Spelling), scar tissue, etc... It is day surgery. HSG test was clear though, so i don't think they will find anything.. not sure though

We have been trying for 32 cycles now... My af is only like 23 or 24 days, so sometimes I can get 2 in one month.. it sucks..

With chlomid - how long can you go on it for? what is femera? What does it do? I go to my doc appt tomorrow morning, so hopefully i will have more answers.

I won't be online though much till sunday... busy weekend starting in about one hour! :)

Glad to meet you!
Cheers :)Reegan

I tested today at 12 dpo and got a :bfn: but it's not over until :af: shows her face!! (Not that i'm keeping my hopes up).

Thank you for the explanation about LAP - I didn't know about that - I did an HSG and that hasn't been brought up - hmm... wonder why?

I did 3 rounds of Clomid but it thinned my lining so much (even after the first cycle) that it's normally not given for more than 4 cycles I don't think. I didn't like it... at all - got horrible side effectss. Femara is similar but has no side effects. It's not as widely used and more expensive so Clomid is usually tried first. Oh, and Femara helps thicken the lining - which is good!!

Look forward to touching base at the end of the weekend - I will let you know if :af: shows her ugly face!!

Hey fellow Canucks! I too have been on Clomid for a while and found out today that I will be switching to Femara (guessing CD3-7) and injectables on CD6, 8 and 10. We did 4 IUIs before I had a lap done in April, so we tried another (13dpiui today...bfn) because the doc says that once you change something up (e.g., lap removed a bit of endo), that can make all the difference. Plus, as you ladies know, all the monitoring is covered by OHIP, so it's really only $200 out of pocket, plus $4.49 for the meds because of our work insurance. Plus, we get the $200 back from my husband's insurance...so, totally worth it to us to do IUIs while saving for IVF.

So, this past cycle was the first in which my lining was less than desirable on CD11, so they put me on Estrace for 2 days, then hcg trigger, then IUI on CD15. I've been on prometrium since as well. If my beta on Friday is negative (which I expect it will be), then I'll stop the prometrium and move on to my first (and hopefully last) Femara cycle. We'll try two Femara/injectable cycles and if those don't work, it's on to IVF in August/September or December/January.

I did 3 rounds of clomid and did get pregnant but it ended in miscarriage. I then switched to femera and the first cycle was a bust. I then did Femera and 5 days of the lowest does of Bravelle and I got pregnant with the first try. This was after 1.5 years of TTC #2. I am now 38 weeks pregnant. So it can happen after such a dry spell.

I also think anxiety really plays a part too. I went on Zoloft for anxiety right before I got my clomid BFP but then went off it because I was pregnant. After the miscarriage and the first failed Femera cycle I got back on it and got pregnant the very next cycle. So who knows. Maybe stressing about TTC was really the reason I could not get pregnant.
