Low AMH?

Postby KMP » Wed Mar 21, 2012 12:43 pm

Hi all,

I was just told that my AMH is incredibly low for someone my age (35 in 2 weeks). My level was 5 point something and normal is over 15. I am devastated. We are apparently no longer good candidates for IVF because I wouldn't be likely to have a good response and the cycle could end up being cancelled. My FSH and LH are in normal ranges.

Some history...I recently switched to a new clinic after doing 7 or 8 IUIs at the old one. The old clinic never tested my AMH and always told me I had plenty of follicles (3-6) for every IUI on Clomid and at least 1 for the two or three cycles we did with Femara and Follistim. I also have some autoimmune issues...minimal amounts of endometriosis removed during a lap last April, severe distal ulcerative colitis, and food allergies. Arrrrrrgh.

Oh, and I might be moving soon and having to switch to yet another clinic, likely one that is affiliated with my old clinic! Boo.

This isn't how AMH was explained to me. There must be different ways of measuring. This is how it was explained to me:

What are normal AMH levels?

Normal AMH levels range between 0.7ng/ml to 3.5ng/ml. Levels below 0.3ng/ml are considered low, and indicate that lower numbers of eggs are within the ovary and decreased fertility. Between 0.3ng/ml to 0.7ng/ml are borderline low. Levels between 3.5ng/ml to 5.0ng/ml are borderline high, while anything above 5.0sng/ml is a high value and can indicate PCOS.

So, mine was 1.1 (falling between the .7 and 3.5 range). Maybe you could ask them to describe it to you by ml?

Low AMH

Postby anniej » Thu Apr 12, 2012 4:44 pm

From what I understand, AMH is a very controversial marker and
much is still unknown about it. There is an excellent article that cites studies and clinical researchabout low AMH and fertility written by Julia Indichova, the author of The Fertile Female.

Just stumbled back upon this thread and thought I'd explain / update for anyone else that does the same. I am in Canada, and we use different measurements!

Also, we came through on the other side with a healthy pregnancy! We ended up doing IVF in June and had only 6 eggs at retrieval, 3 embryos, lost one the morning of transfer, put 2 high grade embryos back, and have one healthy babe with a heart rate of 155 bpm at 14.5 weeks!
