TTC for 10 months ... trying to stay positive.

Postby Ladybug21 » Sun Aug 24, 2014 2:02 pm

Hello:)

This is my first time posting. I am 32 and my hubby is 44. We have been TTC for about 10 months now. I guess I always thought it would be quicker and trying to stay hopeful and positive but difficult as those around me get pregnant. 2 weeks ago I had my annual obgyn appointment and mentioned to her that its been about 10 months. She did not seem concerned because I went off bc pill after being on it for about 17 years and my periods took about 6 months to regulate. She told me to keep trying for another 6 months and "relax" and if nothing come back for tests. Does this seem like good advice? Trying to "relax" easier said then done. I also go to monthly acupuncture which was doing before TTC and now she is focusing on trying to help with TTC. As far as I know nothing wrong with me or my husband but just starting to worry after 10 months. I know they say a year etc. What are others thoughts? Thanks for your feedback.

During the 10 months you were TTC, where you taking your temp, or trying ovulation pred. kits, using pre-seed etc? I believe the acupuncture will help with your stress though (it does for me). Maybe another month or two, but if you still haven't gotten your BFP, I would maybe see that everything down there is working as it should (tubes, ovulation etc, and maybe a semen analysis for your husband). In fact, after looking at this site and knowing it takes time to get in for an appointment, you might want to do that now (it might take a few months to get in), that way, you have your bases covered (and maybe you will get your BFP before all that and just have to cancel!). Keeping my fingers crossed for you on your journey, throwing baby dust your way!

I have been TTC for over a year and am the same age as you are. I went to a dr and she did oh don't be concerned just keep trying. Well I didn't feel comfortable with that response and went to another dr. I am so pleased that I did. She ran all the bloodwork, did a semen analysis, and an ultrasound to check for cysts. Everything came back great but she is concerned I might have endometriosis with my family history. I am going in for a laparoscopy in a few weeks. The point of my rambling is... If u feel like something is wrong, you should at least ask your dr for the bloodwork. I hope that you get your BFP soon!! Good luck :)
TTC since July 2013

Thanks so much for both your replies. I was using an ovulation kit and recently started using clear blue fertility monitor. I felt kind of brushed off by my doctor in back of my head but was like maybe I should just relax? So would I just make an appointment with a new obgyn or go to a specialist? I appreciate all your help and rambling is a good thing. Thanks so much for the finger crossed and good luck wishes. :)

You'll probably have to get a referral from a new ob to go see a specialist. Good luck to you!

Ladybug, if you felt brushed off by your doc, I would go get a new one. You need providers who are on board with fostering a positive atmosphere to help you. Depending on your insurance you may have to get the referral from the new OB to see a RE. I think for you it would be worth it, to have people there who understand your challenges but are willing to explore new avenues if old ones aren't working. :)

I am going to an obgyn who had done all my testing and has done Laps for over 10 years... I did a little digging around online to find a good obgyn in my area. I would definitely see a another obgyn :)

For someone in your 30's, you have a 15-20 percent chance of conceiving every cycle that you have intercourse during your fertile period. She was probably just telling you to give it some more time because you haven't played your odds fully :). It's not personal and if you want tests you should get them. period. Just know that it rarely happens like it does on television. People do get pregnant on the first try but for the most part...it takes a little time. It truly is a miracle. If you feel like something might be wrong though...you should go with your gut. Good luck!

Yes, shop for a new doc if you have a gut feeling. My doc told me she'll refer me to infertility doc as early as month 5 if I want. She ran a bunch of tests already, blood work/ultrasound (for me) and hubby just had SA (awaiting results). I would prefer to know in advance if there are issues, rather than waste precious time. You need/deserve a good doc who will listen to your concerns.

Good luck to you!
