Waiting for #1 for 3.5 years. Who else?

Postby waitingtobemommy » Wed May 18, 2011 4:43 pm

I feel like I need extra support right now in my TTC journey, and I've come to realize I need support from those who are trying SOOO hard for their first child. I appreciate everyone's struggle in their own TTC journey, but I feel like I have more empathy and appreciation for those who are not yet lucky enough to call themselves "mom".

Who else is experiencing this or needing this extra support like me? I'd love more people to join me in this long struggle for #1!

I have been trying for #1 for two and a half years. I know exactly how you feel, it is hard to keep trying day after day and month after month to conceive. I have never been pregnant, infertility is so evil! :x

I'm right there with you ladies! I conceived one time but that was four years ago this past Mother's Day and we m/c at 8 weeks. Since then.....NOTHING. We have been through all the testing and the only thing they have found so far is that my cm is killing dh's sperm. So, unfortunately it seems that IUI is our only option. Our insurance doesn't cover the cost so coming up with $375 to do each one is proving to be a problem. We just did our first IUI on Mother's Day this year. Today is 11dpiui for me and I started bleeding this morning. It only lasted a little while but I'm sure the inevitable is coming.

Infertility is the hardest thing I have ever gone through in my life. I am very thankful for this site to know that I am not alone in my struggle. Wish you girls the best and pray that we all see our BFPs soon. Lord knows we have all waited long enough.

I'm glad to see you ladies on this thread, but also I'm sad to see you here and to see you all struggling as well.

Let's get to know each other:

I've been TTC for 3.5 years with no real diagnosis other than low sperm morph, hypothyroidism, and low Vitamin D count. I have done 2 IUI's, BFN the first and BFP the second. However my BFP ended in chemical @ 5 weeks. I have had the past 3 cycles cancelled due to wacky hormone levels that no one can apparently figure out. I have a 1:1 consult with my RE next week and a phone consult with Dr. Sher in early June. I'm just waiting and hoping for some answers soon!

Now your turn!!

And yes, I agree with all of you that TTC is THE hardest challenge I think I'll ever face!

I've been TTC for over 2.5 years and have the big label of Unexplained. Everything seems to check out with DH and I. We are going through our 1st IUI cycle. It's medicated, but it's apart of a study since we can't afford IUIs here in Colorado so it is either 5mg Letrozole or 100mg Clomid. Good luck to all you ladies!

Dont you just hate the diagnosis "Unexplained"? That's why i'm really eager to speak to Dr. Sher because I hear from other ladies that he doesn't use "unexplained", that he thinks it's a cop out, and there HAS to be a reason for it. I hope he finds out what my reasons are.

Like you, me and DH have both checked out okay. I'll have my FX for your IUI. I think it might help you tremendously. I never got pregnant in 3.5 years of ttc until I did my 2nd IUI. I really think it's the "magical" tx for some! Hope for you ladies too!!

PS: I like Femara (Letrozole) a LOT more than Clomid. Hope you get good results!

I'm going to pipe in here - great conversation! I can really relate to you all and it feels good to know I'm not alone - however, saying that, I hate that you're all having troubles as well... I hope we all get to be "moms" sooner than later.

DH and I have unexplained fertility as well - I have lots of good eggs, his sperm is above average and we've been TTC for a long time now (as per signature). I do ovulate naturally EVERY cycle but it was late (CD23+) as I had very irregular cycles. We tried 4 rounds of Clomid to bump up ovulation to CD14 (which worked) but no BFP.... so now we've taken one month break (to do a HSG which cleaned the tubes... there was no block) and we're on CD7 of our Femara (5mg) cycle. I had HORRIBLE side effects on Clomid so I hope this oen is different. I've also had a sonohysterogram done a few months ago as well.

Looking forward to reading your stories!!

Waitingtobemommy, thank you for starting this thread; I have been feeling exactly the same way after just passing the five year mark. I really could use some extra support right now; there reaches a point when you just face different issues than those starting out. I hope you don't mind if I jump into this group, it would be great to meet others in the same situation. It's great that you have a consult with Dr Sher - I would say that with your hypothyroidism that there is good possibility of an another underlying immune issue.

Hi to everyone else - looking forward to getting to know you.

About me: well, trying five years, we have lost four pregnancies along the way, due to immune issues - natural killer cells and anti-thyroid antibodies. DH has super swimmers. Still trying for #1. I used to hang out on this board when I was a newbie but haven't been here in a long time. We live in Australia.

Onthelanai: I forgot to look at your ticker before replying, but where are you in your cycle and what are you doing this month?

fireinside: I can relate, that we're diagnosed "unexplained" but on paper everything looks so perfect. It's just SO frustrating that month after month, treatment after treatment we still dont have our babies. I'm glad to hear you had your HSG and that everything turned out okay wiht that. GOod luck with your Femara...maybe it'll do the trick to bring you your sticky BFP!

Leaf: 5 years? Oh, I am so sorry to hear that. This TTC world can be so cruel and heartbreaking! I'm sorry you're going through this but I'm glad you're here so we can all support one another. I've heard a lot lately about the topic of immune deficiencies so I'm hoping to get answers soon. Sorry about your 4 m/c...how heartbreaking! Is there any tx or protocol the dr's can use for immune issues?

AFM: Just waiting for my consult with RE on Friday and my phone consult with Dr Sher on June 6th. This is a break cycle and I'm SOOO ready to get TTC again!

I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question b/c I've never done cycle monitoring but what is a "normal" follie size? I know when I was ovulatind on CD23 or later (which is normal without fertility drugs) my Dr said my follies were too big so I was pretty much "out of luck" but how do you know what size is "good"?
