Acupunture anyone?

Postby KinsyB » Thu Sep 08, 2011 8:05 am

I've heard a couple of positive reports from people who have seen a fertility acupunturist. Any one got any stories? Good or bad?

I can't share good or bad stories. Yet. :) I went to my first appointment last week. It went well and I have an appointment to return again this week. I'm curious if there is a particular type of "fertility acupuncture" I'm missing out on. My acupuncturist isn't specialized in fertility, so I'm not sure if the treatment I'm receiving will be as effective.

I don't know if she's still browsing these forums much (she got a BFP 2-3 weeks ago), but georgie82 was doing prenatal accupuncture, and is sure that is what helped her get her BFP.

Oh good!! That's great news :) Thanks for letting me know.

If anyone can give specifics on prenatal acupuncture works, I'd appreciate it! Maybe I'll message georgie82 for more info, too.

Thanks Lit for letting me know!

Hi Ladies, I came off BCP and was having MAJOR issues with hormonal imbalance and irregular cycles etc So being a naturalist I went & saw a Prenatal Acupuncturist. Within my first appointment I knew it was helping. She completed regulated my hormone's (it was REALLY bad) and I went for awhole month (once a week) and I for sure got my BFP. They suggest going in on CD10 to get started. I also went for a "lifting" treatment after my BFP to help with miscarriages. She also told me to come back if I experiecne any m/s as she can cure that in one-two visits.

I highly suggest going to see an acupuncurists. We naturally run to our doctors right away when we see problems & typically they tell us its unexplained or they give us MORE drugs....Everything the acupuncturist does is natural & herbal. I will continue to see mine throughout my pregnancy as they can help with the "side effects" & Labour as well. She was telling me that so many people struggle for a whole year before they get into a specialist when in fact they can immediately start seeing an acupuncturist and potentially eliminate the fact of needing a fertility doctor.

I'm a high stress person so I knew I wouldn't be able to stay "calm" and "relax" throughout my TTC and with this knowledge I researched the next best way to take control of that. Each session was 30-45 mins. Your first is usually a bit longer with the consult. Every meeting starts with a follow up. Then you lay down (on a massage therapist type bed) she puts the needles in where needed (maybe 5 mins), then they leave the room & let you relax the remainder of the time.

I hope this all makes sense and wishing you all lots & lots of :babydustg: :babydustb:

I havent done acupuncture, yet, but my RE strongly suggests it along with fertility treatment. He's actually trying to talk me into it when I do IVF next month, and I think it'd be a good idea. Sounds like it cant hurt, right?

There's a lot of good hard numbers out there proving it really can't hurt (espeically with the combo of the IVF)!!

GOOD LUCK!!! :babydustg: :babydustb:

Thanks ladies. I really might start considering - a woman I met on holiday swears by acupunture for all sorts of ailments, and her sister, who had struggled to conceive, finally got a BFP after acupuncture. Like you all, it can't hurt!

I have been doing acupuncture since mid August to help my body recover from the D&C. I had a rest cycle and just did an IUI where I only produced one follicle but got a BFP. I am sure the acupuncture has helped with restoring the uterine lining and providing blood flow to all the right places. I was also asked to give up all wet dairy products like butter, milk, yoghurt, buttermilk etc to help with my mucus.
I say it's definitely worth a try and especially helpful if you are doing fertility treatments.

This is a little late but I totally recommend it. I never believed in acupuncture and thought it was stupid. But in my TTC journey, I read a lot about it. I thought I would give it a try. After over a year of trying and a 1-2% chance given to me by my RE, I was willing to try anything.

My favorite part is that it's like a mini therapy session where you talk about everything wrong or bothering you and they "fix" it. I was having anxiety about everything and after one session I totally noticed a difference. Then we focused on my early CD 10-11 ovulation and now I am ovulating on CD 14. Then my flow was scanty and now it is nice and red. It's so amazing. I have no idea how it works but I am a firm believer.

I recommend a fertility specialist acupuncturist. They will look at your bbt chart and focus specifically on conception. I was seeing a regular acupuncturist and although she said she treated fertility, she didn't do anything special except make me feel good afterwards. My new acupuncturist just looks at my chart, treats me, and I see changes that I still can't believe! Whereas when I complained to my RE that my luteal phase was too short (10 days) and he said don't worry about it, my acupuncturist treated me and it was immediately 12 days long that next cycle.
Me (sharon): 37 the worst- high FSH
DH (marc): 39 lots of sperm but low volume

TTC #1 for 21 cycles
FSH 19.9, everything else fine
-doing acupuncture weekly since July 2011
-Taking powdered wheatgrass, 50mg B-6, a mega multi-vitamin and fish oil (along with some TCM herbs).
-Also cut back on caffeine, sugar, alcohol, and white flour. Pretty much my entire diet before I started this.

7/2011 Clomid and lots of bding- BFN
11/11/11 IUI with Clomid #1- BFN super sad.
11/29/11 IUI with Clomid #2- BFN not fair!
12/2011- natural cycle- BFN very frustrated and angry.

Going to give it a try

This is all good info to know. I have been ttc for 10 months and I just bought a groupon deal for acupuncture and now I'm glad to know that CD10 is the best day to go. Good luck to everyone!

I'm currently trying acupuncture and there is a specialty for fertility acupuncture. I'm on month number 2 of treatment starting tomorrow. It really has helped me control the AF pain and the ovulation etc. I also take herbs as well.
