Anyone just warming up the idea of having a baby?

Postby AlienGirl333 » Wed Nov 16, 2011 6:47 pm

Hi everyone,

I see that there are a lot of people on TWW who have been trying for years but is there anybody out there who just got into TTC after not wanting kids? I'm 29 and I never wanted kids before. In fact, up until about six months ago, the idea of getting pregnant was more than horrifying!

When I think about it, I think a lot of it had to do with me not having regular cycles and having infertility issues in my family. I guess it was kinda like, well I don't want to anyway (because I know I can't). The birth of my niece completely changed my perspective and now my husband (who's been talking about having a baby since we got married seven years ago) and I are TTC.

I've found temping and taking supplements to be kind of empowering because I've managed to improve my cycles and learn about my body. So far, being into TTC has been a great experience although I still have a hard time talking with friends and family about actively trying to TTC. I've mentioned my struggles with regulating my cycle and about temping to see if I O but I never say anything about TTC. Is that weird? Anybody else?

I'm in the same situation. I never wanted kids, ever. DH and I have been together for six years and we were always so careful because I just wanted wanted to be pregnant. He's always wanted children and at one point I kind of wished Id met someone who felt the same way I did about kids.

It wasn't until we found that we we may have fertility issues that I started wanting them. DH was diagnosed with varicocele (one of the number one causes of male infertility) and our RE basically said the only way we'd ever have children is through IVF. I now want kids more than ever.

We didn't tell anyone at first either because I just didn't want people asking if I was pregnant yet. When we found out there may be issues we told our family and I've just recently told a few close friends. I stared temping also and took a ton of supplements but stopped because we pretty much have no chance of it happening on our own.

Good luck!!

I know what you mean about wishing your husband had met someone who was on the same page in regards to having kids...I always felt guilty just because I knew that was the one thing in life he really wanted. But that's behind us and we're definitely on the same page now :).

I've never heard of varicocele. Is that hereditary or can it develop on its own? I hope everything goes well with the IVF treatments. I'm 29 going on 30 and just yesterday my husband asked me if I would be willing to go through IVF or other treatments to get pregnant if TTC naturally didn't work out...I was like, of course! But I guess at my age and with my history we have to consider it.
