TRYING FOR #1 with PCOS and Hypothyroidism

Postby jenniferlee » Fri Mar 01, 2013 8:24 pm

Hiii ...okay so i am neeeew here and seeking support from people in the same situation :) i have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) i am on 75 mg levothyroxine for that and have been told by both my endocrinologist and gyno that i have pcos which is making it hard for me to coceive naturally obviously...i have not had my period in over a year and it has NEVER been normal...i had been trying for over 2 years before i finally seeked help ..ughhh wish i would have done it sooner. Anyways, i am waiting on results from the RE from my tests for next step..i have also had a polyp removed and endometrial biopsy both non cancerous ..my gyno tells me that i should be able to get pregnant after all my hormones get normal but my progesterone level was also low... :( ...i just need some encouragement...i think my step will be metformin...i go see my RE in about a week...just feels like forever..anyone have these same problems or go through something similar...did you ever get your bfp and how long did it take?

We seem to have a similar story! I was diagnosed with PCOS almost two years ago and with thyroid issues last july. When I was diagnosed with the thyroid issues and went on meds as well as changing my diet, I had my period regularly for 3 months (first time in i don't even know how long) but then it became irregular again. I had been NTNP for about 6 months and then actively TTC for about 8 months now and I am still waiting on my BFP. I started with a new OBGYN and she put me on Provera in January, which brought on my af right away, but I missed it in february. I have been having symptoms, so I am not sure if I missed it because I am pregnant (have gotten on BFN on hpts though) or just because my body hates me, lol. Anyways, I go in to get a blood test in about a week before going back on Provera, although I am hoping that I am pregnant, and the hpts have been false negatives which I am learning is pretty common with PCOS. We will see.

I know it can get discouraging after waiting for so long and even more frustrating when you can't count on your body to do what it is supposed to. Hopefully you will get your bfp soon!!

Wow...this is great...i havent read about too many people having this same problem...pcos is one thing but hypothyroidism is another BIG thing unfortunately.... But from what i hear after you get your thyroids under control then it should makes things a bit more easy right? Ugh, how long did it take you to get your thyroid under control and how did your dr go about it? I was diagnosed with hypo this year before pcos so im not sure what the process is yet...i really want to seriously start trying but im afraid they will make me wait linger :( ...so i guess what im saying is that, with both problems, how long did it take you to seriously be able to ttc (meaning all the meds and cycles...did yoy get your cycle on your own to ttc or did they give you something to induce?..is your progesterone level normal? And are you ovulating?) Sorry for ao many questions i just want to know as much as i can so i dont get my hopes up...im just glad i found someone with the same issues...thank you tho for listening

Well, my Doctor told me that I should stop ttc while I was getting everything under control, but that was also due to trying to lose some weight as well. I went on synthroid right away and I actually got my af three days later. After about 2 months my levels were pretty low, but my Dr. upped them a little to get the levels a little lower. I actually had to switch Dr.s so I haven't been able to get them rechecked. At the same time I also went on a low sugar, no processed carbs diet, which was pretty difficult, but I figured it out, although I have had a hard time sticking with it lately. I have been trying to work through the other stuff and have not met with a dr to figure stuff out with ttc yet. I figured I would give it awhile with the provera before taking the next step. So that is where I am now. Like I said, I haven't gotten my period since it was induced from the provera - and I will find out next week if I am pregnant or if the provera just didn't work long term.
