How long should this take?!?!?!

Postby chattyallie » Tue Jun 11, 2013 5:34 pm

Getting frustrated at how long it's taking to conceive! I've been trying for seven months now and it's taking over my life! Tried OPKs, Mucinex, green tea, "relaxing", legs & tush up. Nothing! I'm in my fertility prime, this shouldn't be this hard...right?

It can take a long time. You only have a 25% chance every month if everything is perfect between your husband and yourself. If you reach a year and still nothing, schedule to see an RE. If you're really concerned or your cycles aren't regular, try to go in sooner. It will happen though <3

Hi,

I read the following [this is if there are no fertility issues]:

# of Cycles Trying to Conceive Chance of Pregnancy
1 cycle 20%
2 cycles 36%
3 cycles 48.8%
4 cycles 59.04%
5 cycles 67.23%
6 cycles 73.79%

up to 91% by 12 months. Generally, the rule of thumb if you are under 35 years old is to wait one year before you seek fertility help. I completely understand your impatience by this point though. It sucks to wait once you make the decision to actually do it!

great comments by the other gals. I agree with all that they said. It can take a long time, certainly! We've been trying for 4.5 years now. i joke with my hubby that i spent my 20's trying not to get pregnant and my 30's trying to get pregnant.

I highly recommend temping, tracking your symptoms and cycle (this will be helpful info should you need it for a reproductive endocrinologist), and taking good care of yourself. keep at it, and seek medical help if you've been trying for 6-12 months, depending on your age and infertility clinic. hang in there...

best,
m

Like the others said, it can take some time. We just don't imagine that when we are spending our 20's on the pill  Most doctors won't talk about assisted options until you have been trying for a year (6 months if over 35). Until then, just keep trying. Start temping and charting your ovulation so you know what is going on in your body. Get as healthy as possible--eat right, take vitamins, and maintain a healthy weight (being under or over weight is just as detrimental to fertility). You can read more about things to do while TTC here. http://ivf-info.org/how-do-you-get-pregnant Good luck!!

Allie, I am assuming that you don't really want advice but someone to listen. I am in a very similar situation. I have long irregular cycles, temp, opk etc etc and the doctors don't even care until one year. I am so frustrated too, so I hear you!!!
