Anyone TTC while nursing?

Postby Mrsmcbride » Sun Jan 08, 2012 5:40 pm

I'm 1dpo on my second ppaf. Just curious if anyone else is or has TTC while breastfeeding.

Me! I am STILL nursing my 2 year old. I never thought I would nurse DS so long but he is so attached to it. I am down to nursing him once per day and hope to have him completely weaned by next month! I didn't get my first ppaf until 17 months! Since then I have a total of 3 periods....that's it! I am hoping it is the nursing that is making my cycles irregular but I have a nagging feeling there is some other problem. My doctor won't do any testing until I have not been breastfeeding for six whole months. Ugh!

I am nursing my 2 year old daughter. I got my first PPAF @ 12 months old. Been on regular 30 day cycles since. I got a prolactin test done and it came out at low enough levels that my OB doesnt think that I am not ovulating. DD still feeds about 3 quick 2 min sessions a day. Hoping we can wean soon but we also did the co-sleeping thing to so now she is used to being cuddled by mama and it will be a fight to get her to stop lol. GL and FX for you both :)

Glad I'm not alone. I really wasn't expecting to get PPAF so soon. Are you guys getting positive opks? Are you temping? How long are your ps? My first ppaf was last month and I never got a positive opk. Going by my almost positive opk, my LP that cycle was only 5 days. This cycle I got a very very positive opk and today is 5 dpo. I'm hoping that if I'm not pregnant, my LP is at least 10 days. I think I may start temping next cycle. I'm just worried it won't be accurate due to inconsistent wake times. :babydustb: :babydustg: :babydustb: :babydustg: to you both!

Well, its official-I am done nursing! We had a Big Boy party yesterday. My son picked out the cake and frosting, helped make it, and then we sang "happy big boy to you" and he blew out candles. He didn't even fight that much this morning when it was the usual "nursie" time. I just reminded him that he was a big boy now and big boys don't nurse and that we can always cuddle. He keeps coming up to me and telling me he is a big boy! Super cute.

Mrsmcbride, temping seems to be somewhat accurate for me but then again my son was only nursing once per day. It won't hurt to try and see what shows up. Who knows, maybe you're already pregnant and won't need to worry about it! FX!

Oktober, we still co-sleep too. I night weaned about six months ago by having DS sleep with just dad for a few weeks...ok six weeks...and I slept in the guest room. Then slowly I moved back into the family bed and it hasn't been an issue, so it is possible to night wean and still co-sleep. Its just a long process to do it without a lot of tears. :)

Thank you for the tip for night weaning, may just give it a shot.

Also I have 30 day cycles like clockwork I opk and tried to temp but its hard when DD wakes up before me and shocks me out of sleep I always forget to grab the thermometer and when I do remember she's always pulling it out of my mouth lol so no temping for me. But based on my OPK's for the past cycles i noticed a trend in surges I usually get a surge on CD 15 or 16 and then nothing else. GL :)

Lol about your DD taking the thermometer out of your mouth! I have definitely been there. My DS has been making it a habit to grab the thermometer whenever he sees it on the nightstand and then trying to put it in his ear! I am not sure if he does that because that it how he gets his temp taken at the doctor or what. It is definitely a challenge to temp with a co-sleeping toddler!

I originally night weaned in hopes that I would return to fertility. I guess I am one of those rare moms that has to wean completely to get pregnant (at least to get my cycle back). Oh well, if I nurse each of my kids for two years that will make them about three years apart (with any luck) and I think that is good spacing. :) I wonder how long it will take for my cycle to go back to normal now that I am done nursing? How old was your DD when you cycles went back to being regular?

Hi ladies. Nursing 9 month old. Still no AF. I thought I ovulated on the 5th but not sure. I was having all of these symtoms but now 10 dpo (if I did in fact ovulate) nothing really....

Hi rdm! Welcome :) AF arrived today. I'm not really too bummed as it was my first normal(ish) cycle. My LP was only 7 days, but it was only 5 last cycle. I'm wondering if a vitamin B complex might help lengthen it? I am going o attempt to temp this cycle, we'll see hw that goes. How's everyone else doing?
