There are so many factor that lead up to getting that perfect healthy ovulation! Here is a list of helpful tips for everything that involves trying to get and catch that perfect ovulation!

There are a few ways to pinpoint when ovulation is trying to happen.

These methods are:
~Using ovulation predictor kits (OPKs). It is best to test at least 2 times a day, starting around CD10. When the test line is as dark, or darker than the control line then you should ovulate 12-36 hours later.
~Checking your cervix position. When you are fertile and close to ovulation, your cervix well be very high and flat, and soft. Imagine it as a small mushy donut. When your cervix is not fertile, it will be low and hard, and will feel similar to the tip of your nose.
~Ovulation pain will be felt in some women. This pain will be usually felt on one side. It will vary from a small twinge, to a more sharp severe pain. This can sometimes be a less reliable method because some women feel ovulation after ovulation has occurred. It is called mittelschmerz, and is felt in about 20% of ovulating women.
~Monitoring your cervical mucus. When you are fertile and approaching ovulation your CM will change to either watery or very clear and slippery (EWCM).
~Monitoring your saliva for ferning patterns. Before you have a LH surge and ovulate you body starts producing more estrogen. This is responsible for building your lining, growing your eggs, and producing EWCM. You will need a microscope to monitor your morning saliva patterns for patterns that will look like fern leaves. When you see the ferning pattern then your estrogen is at its peak and should trigger your LH shortly afterwards.

If you have a lack of fertile cervical mucus there are remedies that you can try to help make more fertile CM.

These remedies are:
~Evening Primrose Oil 1500-3000mg daily. You should only take this before ovulation, because it can cause uterine contractions.
~Green tea, either drinking the tea, or in capsule form.
~Grapefruit juice, or eating the whole grapefruit. This will increase your estrogen.
~Staying hydrated with plenty of water throughout the day.
~FertileCM is a supplement that can help you produce and thin your cervical mucus.

There are also remedies that you can use to thin your cervical mucus if it is too thick and provide a more sperm friendly envirnment in your vagina. This will not help you make any cervical mucus.

These are:
~Guaifenesin, also know as mucinex, and by other brand names. This will thin your cervical mucus. You would need to drink plenty of water with this.
~Preseed, this is a sperm friendly lubricant.
~Yes Baby, is also a sperm friendly lubricant located in the UK.
~Zestica Fertility , is also a sperm friendly lubricant located in the UK.
~Conceive Plus, is another sperm friendly lubricant.
~ConceivEase, is another sperm friendly lubricant.

The best way to confirm that ovulation has already happened is to chart your temperature. This will not help you predict ovultaion, but can be very helpful in showing when ovulation has occurred. You can learn more about that in this link: viewforum.php?f=38

Hey maddy, I have a question. Im in the process of getting insurance to see a real doctor and the insurance im getting unfortunatly wont cover infertility treatments. I am begining to believe I may have PCOS and will be getting tested very shortly. My question is if results come back as I do have PCOS, do you kno if the meds they give you are considered infertility treatments or if they will be covered?

Metformin is usually given to treat PCOS, and since it is used to treat the PCOS, and not actually used as a "fertility" med it should be covered (even thoug it helps your fertility). But truly it all depends on the insurance coverage you have.

Hi everyone!

I am new to the group. I've been stalking on and off for a while but finally decided to jump in. Hubs and I have been TTC since July 2013. I've been tracking with OPK tests and Ov pains but just started temping last month. Last month I had a pretty clear shift after O but this month I'm a little confused. FF is set to FAM but won't give my crosshairs (it will give crosshairs if I change it to advanced, though). I am pretty sure I actually O'd on CD 11... lots of EWCM, high sex drive, clear O pain on left side. But my temps are being weird. I'm kinda thinking my thermometer might be about to die and recording low temps but I might be being hopeful. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance! :)

Thanks for posting this, Maddy. Very helpful. Do you recommend fmu or mid morning for opk? I see about equal votes. Testing fmu would be convenient, but if I need to test around 10am at work I will make that happen. Last month was my 1st month using opk's. I only tested 1x day, from cd 10 - cd 18.....never got a positive. Plan to test 2x day this time around. Currently on cd2. Any input appreciated! Thanks.

I would do both if possible. If I had to pick one though, I would go with mid afternoon/evening.

Kezzo, That does sound like a surge! I have had them last shorter than that sometimes. You made the right call with BDing just in case! Good luck!

Hi there so for the first time I've had 3 consecutive days of positive opk. Baby danced all 3 days. I am 3-4 dpo. Tmi alert we engaged in vigorous baby dance this afternoon. I have pinkish red spotting and a little cramping. Any ideas on what this could be?

Hey, I am a newbie to this site and was curious what you thought about my situation. I am 30 and my husband is 31 we have been TTC for 2 years naturally. My doctor tested my progesterone level at cycle day 23 and it was 1380. I had an IUI 1 days ago and she tested my progesterone yesterday and it was 1130. My question I'd have you ever heard of anyone having a level that high without medication??? My doctor doesn't Think it's cause for concern but I'm a little friekin out.

I'm brand new and probably in the wrong spot but I wanted to know if anyone has ever been in the same boat. I have done 4 rounds of clomid with no success and 7 rounds of letrozole first 2 no success next 4 successful with only 1 follie but late O and this round on 7.5 successful with 2 follies on day 14(January 6) - 16mm and 17mm.

My question is this - I had EWCM on day 12 but haven't had any since .. any ideas on why this is? My RE figured i would O between Jan 7-9 (based on follie scan)but so far -opk's. Also TMI but I have been having bouts of diarrhea which i typically get before AF.

Did I miss the egg? is it possible I still haven't O'd? Anyone around the same time in their tww? I have a progesterone test on the 15th and a Blood PT on the 22nd.

Maybe ask on the Clomid boards, so you get some replies.
