OPK help

Postby Asinclair88 » Sun Feb 19, 2017 7:33 am

Hi ladies,

I have irregular periods however I was advised by the DR to start using OPK's

I have really strong cramps, would you say by looking at the photo I'm due to ovulate any day?

Hi there!!

I'd say those are still negative. The test line has to be as dark or darker than the control line. It's a good idea to test in the afternoon and early evenings. Never with first morning urine unless you're using Clearblue OPKs.

Personally, I test at 2pm and then again before 8pm. Once you get a positive, you will likely ovulate 12-36 hours after that.

You also want to try and BD the day of your positive and 2-3 days after as well. I hope this helps!!! Good luck to you!!!

Hey! Thanks for your reply :)

Yes I understand they're negative however I just wondered if it's a good sign they are getting darker.

I usually test around 2pm and then again in the evening :)

Oh!!! I thought you were asking if they were positive. But, yes they are getting darker.

When my test look like that, I expect a positive the next day. It always seems to happen so fast! FX'd you catch that egg!

My OPK's are getting lighter, is it possible I've missed my surge even with testing twice a day?

I'm on CD17

It's possible you had a quick surge and missed it. However, My OPKs can vary in darkness while I wait for my surge.

CD 8 for example, my OPK was dark then they got lighter and lighter CDs 9, 10 and the morning of CD 11. However at night it got dark almost + and by CD12 I got a definite +. Are you tracking any other way? CM? Temping? It's difficult when relying on OPKs alone.

Maybe someone else can weigh in here. I just started TTC again so I'm not much help. LOL

Does first morning urine give false results, or why do you say not to use it?

Lullabybaby, some people say LH (which is always in your system) builds up during the night when you aren't drinking and urine is more concentrated, so it could give you a false positive, or more likely, lines of varying degrees of darkness that make it hard to predict when your positive is drawing close.

LH is released by the pituitary gland very early in the morning. Most women surge by 8am, but it takes about 4 hours for the hormone to be filtered through your kidneys in large enough quantities to be detected in the urine. Some women have a quick surge, so for this reason they recommend testing between 11am and 4pm.

When you are near your surge, you should test in the afternoon and evening. If you have dark lines that are looking almost positive, then you can test in the morning and will likely get a positive result.

My OPK's are usually darker in the evening.. I take mine around 2pm and 8pm and the 8pm ones are much stronger although no positive yet.

I thought I missed O because yesterday afternoons was so light but last night it was darker and then this afternoon again it was lighter!

Yes, it's normal to see them get darker for a time then lighter. Keep testing and hopefully your positives will show up soon! I usually get at least one day of tests that aren't quite positive, but look very close before my true, easy to read positive. Not everyone gets that warning, but a lot of women see a significant darkening the day or two before.
