If #1 took a while, does #2?

Postby Wishingandwaitingnomore! » Mon Aug 30, 2010 5:40 pm

Hey ladies,

Thanks for reading! We TTC with DS1 for 6 years. I'm wondering - in your experience- if you took a while to conceive your first, did it take as long to conceive your second?

Thanks in advance!

After 22 months, we conceived the first time. I miscarried at 6 1/2 weeks and six months after that, we got pregnant with our son. I had hoped that I would get pregnant quickly this time, but it took us 26 months.

BUT I have had friends who get pregnant very easily with their seconds. I've got two with PCOS who used fertility drugs to get pregnant the first time and then had "surprise!" number 2s. I have one friend who found out she was pregnant after three years a week before her IUI consult and then got pregnant with her second the cycle after her Mirena was removed. It can really happen either way!

Do you know why it took so long to conceive your first?

It took me about 3 years to conceive my son: 1 year of "not 'trying' but not 'preventing'" and two years of actually TRYING. I'm on my 2nd month of TTC #2!! Hopefully this time it'll be a short journey!

Thank you ladies for the bump and replies!

Not sure why it took so long the first time. The doctor told us we had unexplained infertility. I guess it eases my mind knowing that I can get pregnant, but I'm just scared it is going to take a while for #2. I'd rather our kids be closer in age.

Thanks again for your help and experiences.

:praying: we all get our BFP soon!

It took me 1 year to conceive my DD, 2 cycles to conceive my angel baby and 3 cycles to conceive the baby I'm pregnant with now.

I was trying really hard for my DD. I was using opk's and everything. I'm not sure why it took a whole year. but luckily it didn't take that long this time.

It took three years to get pg with ds1, had him in Sept. 2009, and got pg with ds2 in Nov. 2009 and had him Aug. 2010, they are only 10months and 29 days apart lol (I have PCOS, and was told it wouldn't happen on it's on, it happened three times on it's own, but one was a m/c) Good Luck to you :D

It took me 3 years to get pregnant (with my son 1 1/2 years old) on our 4th IUI with clomid. I had a m/c with iui number 3! I also have unexplained infertility. We started trying again in August naturally...I was hoping it would happen but nope! :( I'm going to have to get in touch with our dr in the new year!! Good luck to you!

I think it probably depends.....I have PCOS so it took 7 1/2 years to get our second....Hopefully it won't take THAT long for #3....

I've been wondering this too. It took us 2 1/2 years actively TTC after a m/c, to get my BFP with DS. This is Cycle #2 of TTC #2 for us, and here's hoping!

We are trying for number 2 and thought it would be easier because we would pick up were we left off with number 1. But number 2 has been just as big of a mess. I have produced lots of cyst and have OHSS this time. We are on IUI #4 but finally after a year have gotten the meds figured out were I am only producing 2-3 follicles instead of 10. :D

It took us 7 months ttc the first one, but we weren't really diligent about it. We got pregnant the first cycle with #2, but I wasn't messing around anymore! We got straight to business!
