Concerns about vitex?

Postby catcar » Sun Apr 10, 2011 10:48 am

I also posted in the trying to conceive naturally forum:

Okay, so we are gearing up to officially start ttc after my af in June. I really want to do everything I can to prepare myself and maybe prevent 1.) infertility issues like last time, and 2.) miscarriage due to pcos.

So, since January I have been on the South Beach diet. It's been slow, but I've lost about 15 pounds now. I think I could easily lose at least 5 more by the time we start in June. This would bring my BMI down to the "normal" range. I've been trying to exercise at least 1-2 times a week, but things sometimes get in the way.

I also take Metformin for the PCOS. My fasting sugars are still a bit elevated. Probably starting this week or next, I will start religiously checking my glucose levels throughout the day, every day, because my endocrinologist is thinking that I might want to start a small dose of overnight insulin (long-acting) a month before we start trying, just to get my numbers perfect (this is to ensure egg quality and maybe prevent another pcos-related miscarriage).

So.... now I'm looking at supplements that I could take to prepare my body and hopefully create an ideal situation for conception. I take a prenatal every day (never stopped). Yesterday I ordered Vitex, CoQ 10, and EPO.

I'm really excited to start the CoQ10, since it is such a hyped about supplement. I'm also excited to try the EPO, see if it encourages more fertile cm, and also if it has any effect on my pms (I get really bloated and tired).

I was excited about Vitex, but after doing Google research, I am afraid that it might mess up my somewhat normal cycles. For the past year I've been a pretty regular 28 days. The last few cycles, however, have been averaging around 30-31 days due to a later O.

Sorry this is so long, but my question is: what are your thoughts on Vitex? Should I try it?

If I am going to try it, I'd like to give it a few months before giving up. I remember trying it when we were ttc my son, but I gave up after a month, so can't really say if it worked. It didn't get me pregnant in that one month I was on it, though...

Totally read this post twice hoping someone would answer it because I'm also curious about Vitex. I'm already taking EPO, CoQ10, prenatal, fish oil, B6, etc.

And am also trying to lose weight!

We are also TTC #2- :luck: to you!

I started charting about 8 months before ttc. I noticed that I didn't have much fertile cm so I started vitex from af to ovulation. I noticed a big change in cm. I got pregnant 2nd month trying first month on vitex. I took it ttc #2 and got pregnant first cycle with miscarriage. Got pregnant straight away again. But I never tried ttc without vitex so I don't know if it made things faster or not.

One of my friends had been trying for a couple months when I told her I had used it. She tried it and got pregnant straight away.
