TTC #2 & Breastfeeding- no AF yet can I get a BFP???

Postby navymom » Fri Aug 05, 2011 3:11 pm

Hi ladies!! I am 32 and ttc #2. I gave birth to my beautiful daughter, Arwen Renee (after 12 months of ttc and 5 IUI's) in April and my husband just found out that he got orders to go overseas (he is in the Navy) for 12 months starting in Feb 2012... so we are forced to start ttc #2 now so we don't miss out on a whole year while he is gone... I have been bf for 4 months now and still no AF--- how can I tell is I am O'ing if I am not getting my period?? Anyone have any luck getting a BFP while BF'ing?

I BF exclusively and got AF back at 3 months post partum. She's now 10 months old and my LP has finally lengthened to 11-12 days, for a while it was much less.

Good luck! It must be hard TTC while under pressure for time.

Everyone is different, but on average fertility returns after a year. Most women do not ovulate before 6months pp (when you start introducing solids) and even then may have short lp for some time. You may fall pregnant before your first period or your periods may return before you are fertile, there is no way of knowing. You could start to chart to hopefully catch ovulation.

With my oldest AF didn't return till 2-3 months after I completely weaned her. I am still BFing my 11month old 3-4 times a day and still no AF. We want to TTC #3 so I will have to take progesterone to get a bleed and them probably clomid to ovulate. GL momma!! And TY to DH for his service!!!
