TTC #2 while nursing my 18mo

Postby lotusmomma » Fri Dec 12, 2014 2:37 pm

So I finally got my first postpartum period last month, and I was pleasantly surprised at how "normal" it was. I was expecting torrential gushes of year old whatever to come bursting out. :P I'm still nursing my daughter quite a bit - BM is still her primary source of calories. Today is day 39 of this cycle, and no sign of AF.

I've been checking my cervix infrequently, and it is relatively low (easy to reach), soft and seems to be opening (last check was more open than previous check). So I am not sure if I have already ovulated and this is my body preparing for a period, or if I'm ovulating really late. CM seems to suggest I am not ovulating. I'm guessing that if I'm having a period and my os is opening, then wouldn't I see spotting by now?

I guess no urgent questions for now, just chiming in. This is turning into a 3+ week wait. POAS about once a week (CG cheapies - just ordered some wondfos), all BFNs so far. :(

Good luck! Dh and I plan to start ttc in about a month. Right now our dd is 14 months. Not sure what my cycle is going to be like. It had been all crazy since I stopped bfing.
Best and brightest to all!

With one of my nursing babies, I got my first pp cycle back at 15 months, and seemed to miss the next period before getting a positive test. I remember that long wait! Breastfeeding messes with the first half of your cycle, so it sounds like your ovulation was delayed or hasn't happened yet. Very normal, but hard to wait, for sure!

I am also bfing my 10mo A LOT. I got AF back at 7 weeks pp. Not sure if this helps or discourages, but it took a month for my body to get its cycle regulated- I actually skipped a whole cycle.

How exciting that you're back in the game, though! Will be looking out for your progress and am hopeful for your BFP :) I am quickly learning that TTC while bfing is a whole other animal!

Momma3:)

"Interesting" is a good word for it! haha Every symptom can be because of bfing... At 1 dpo, my husband asked me, "Do you feel pregnant, because you're acting pregnant" HA! I said, "It doesn't work that way, honey..."

Can I join you ladies?! I'm still BFing my 11 month old and O'd on valentines day! It'd be nice to chat with others about the craziness of TTC while BFing!!

Lotusmomma- my second pp AF was about a week late due to me and the LO getting the flu. He nursed quite a bit more than normal since I stayed home with him while being sick. Do you temp? Only reason I ask is because that's the only way I know when I've ovulated. My CM tells me when I'm close, but the nursing hormones have been known to delay things.

Join in, Mommy2B!

I am currently 9dpo- tested today, BFN :/ I didn't get a BFP until 13 dpo with my son, so I'm hoping I still have some time.

How is everyone else doing?

MRC1013- 9 dpo is still very early! Do you temp or use OPK's? Or is your cycle just nice and regular? Mine never were- they were always off by a day or 5 so item long has taught me a lot about OV and my body.

I'm 3dpo and already getting a little crazy. The TWW is torture. Somedays I wish I didn't know what I know- the ignorance was blissful! But, luckily I have a lot going on this week and will be distracted with my first weekend away from both of my men (DH and LO) and coaching/managing an out of town event with my 20 swimmers. Then, once I'm home I'll only be a couple days out from testing!

How are the rest of you? Lotusmomma- any updates?

I don't temp or do OPKs. My period shows up right when it's supposed to, which is good and depressing all at the same time... AF showed up today- right on schedule :( I told my husband I am done trying until I am done breastfeeding. It's too much wishing and hoping and bfing makes it even more difficult (I still bf about 12x a day, so getting pregnant is a challenge). I am still going to peak my head in here every now and then.

Good luck ladies!

MRC1013- I'm sorry AF got you. :( I have a sneaking suspicion she'll catch me too. While DH and I had better timing this month, it took us quite a while the first go round to be successful so I'm not going to hold my breath. I'm currently 7DPO (valentines day O) and probably won't test early unless my husband requests me to.

How are the rest of you doing?

Hi all. I'm currently BFing my 19mo daughter and ttc #2. I am 14 DPO and feel very pregnant but tests have been negative (last done on 12 DPO). I am hoping that maybe I Ovulated late or my timing is out.....but I feel like if I didnt get a positive at 11 or 12 DPO then I probably wont :( AF is due tomorrow and so far I dont feel like its coming but it was 4 days late last month. BFing makes it super hard to know if I'm even Ovulating at all :(

Shemms- I feel ya! I use opk's and temp which has helped some, but last month (I had the flu as did my 11th month old) I was 21 DPO by the time AF arrived. Btwn breastfeeding and illness my body was terribly confused.

I'm crossing my fingers for you though. :)
