Anyone breastfeeding and ttc?

Postby tryingnumber3 » Mon Apr 25, 2016 1:44 pm

I had my 3rd baby girl last July and want to start planning ttc for a summer 2017 baby. I recently stopped taking the mini pill and started charting again. I'm yet to have a pp af.

I definitely don't want to have to wean any time soon, so hopefully I start ovulating soonish. I'd like to be able to track a few cycles before we actually start tracking. I have felt kind of achy in my uterus, so maybe it's waking up! Do you chart or use opks?

I use opks. I tried reducing nursing at night, but it is not working.

Good luck! I've TTC while nursing with each one of my kids after my first was born. I tend to get my period easily within the first year though (even when I was nursing THREE!) so I don't have to wait...not that it's a good thing, as I don't really ever WANT to TTC during that first year for the sake of my milk supply! I have had to use Vitex to shorten my cycles ones, though. It worked immediately. I know lots of women who've used it to jump-start their cycles as well.

Thank you! I was reading a lot about vitex. From what I've read, lots of people have success, or it messes up their cycle. Ive been temping everyday around 7am and my Temps are pretty level. So I think thats good? Lol. Im going to not try to induce ovulation until July when my baby is 12 months, unless ithe comes on its own first. I'm just impatient that now I know we are going for baby #4, I just want to start monitoring my cycles now! :)

Hey tryingnumber3, remember me? Looks like we're back in the same boat again. I wasn't able to nurse as long as I wanted because some meds screwed with my supply, but my MIL got pregnant with her 3rd before AF returned after her 2nd. Are you temping or doing OPKs, or... ?

When it returned, my AF was absolutely crazy. It went all the way through Feb and into the beginning of March, so there was no telling by my cycle if/when I O'd at first. I'm doing both temping and OPKs now that my cycle is more sane, but still somewhat irregular.

YAY Jess! Baby #4!!

I stopped nighttime breastfeeding (at least 6 hours between BF at night) and if I needed to feed her I would give her a bottle of pumped milk. My PP AFs started up about a month after I started doing that, and I got pregnant after the 2nd PP AF. The problem is though - be prepared to wean, because milk supply drops a LOT once you get pregnant again. Luckily Fiona loves solids ;)

Hi Kyrenora - I remember you though I didn't know you very well. Hope your cycle regulates soon! Vitex may help with that. :)

Hi there! I remember you too!

I didn't know the vitex could help with that. I thought it was just for PMS.

Nah it's what's called a phytoestrogen - it doesn't add estrogen or anything, it just helps balance your levels. It can take a couple cycles to regulate but I have heard it helps most women a lot. I have a mostly full bottle of vitex and soy isoflavones I would be happy to send you if you like!
