Doc says it's "inevitable"

Postby waitingtobemommy » Tue Mar 22, 2011 8:42 am

I was over the moon excited to find out after 3.5 years of ttc that i was pregnant last Friday. Had 1st beta which was 87. Had 2nd beta yesterday and RE called to tell me my HCG dropped and that a chemical was inevitable. My HCG dropped from 87 to 54 so she thinks it'll take a few days for the miscarriage to start.

I'm so devestated and scared. What should I do or what should I know about this process? Just so scared....

I'm so sorry about your loss!! I know how devestating it is. :( I definitely will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

As far as what to expect, for mine I went to the ER where they probed me and drew blood and stuck a cathiter in me (don't recommend any of this). Maybe have DH stay with you for support if they can. Take some tylenol for the pain. And try taking it easy. There will be lots of bleeding and cramping.

Again, I'm so sorry you're having to go through this.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's such a sad, sad thing to go through.

At this stage, you may only experience some more cramps and a little heavier bleeding. My chemical was just a little more painful and a little heavier than AF, not too bad or too scary.

:hugs: I'm so sorry! I had this happen with my 2nd pregnancy. My initial beta was 84 then dropped to 72. My RE was worried about an ectopic since my betas hovered around the same number for a few days. I had to have several blood draws to be sure my betas were dropping appropriately. They finally did and I started cramping and bleeding at 5w0d. Physically, it wasn't too bad, just like a really heavy period with slightly worse cramping than normal. Like Lisa already mentioned, emotionally was a different story.

I'm so sorry again. I'm praying you will heal quickly after this.

Thanks for the reassurance ladies. It makes me feel a lot better to know that it'll just be like a heavier period. So, my RE suggested ttc right away. Have any of you tried this? I'm just wondering/worried if my cycles will be messed up.... And when should I call them or go in....when the miscarriage happens, or??

I've always heard that because of the elevated progesterone from pregnancy.. you are more fertile after a miscarriage. You may ovulate a little later.. but it will probably be pretty close to your normal. I wouldn't think they would have you come in.. they might call you to check on you. My OB's office called me a few times to check and see how it was going. I would start taking your temperatures (either after your done or during) and marking how heavy bleeding is and such. Your first cycle day will be the day of bleeding not spotting like how a normal period is. I wish you lots of luck *hugs*.

I had my first in February and this is what I experienced as well. I also had a couple clots, which is something I was not prepared for and it scared me a bit. So don't be concerned if you do have some clots as well.

My RE made me wait to try again until I got my first period after each miscarriage. After my first two losses, I got pregnant the first cycle of trying each time using treatment plans similar to my first one. After my third loss, I induced a period with provera and was getting ready to start Follistim after getting test results back from the beginning of my cycle, but our plans changed b/c I ended up ovulating on my own for the first time in 2 years. I should find out the results of this cycle at the end of the week.

Even though you may be physically ready to try again right away, be sure to take time to heal emotionally. Personally, I felt like it helped me to start TTC again right away so that I had something positive to focus my energy towards. However, everyone is different, so don't let anyone (including your doctor) push you to try again if you aren't ready.

A girl I'm in a buddy group with had a loss a little after 5 weeks and TTC in the same cycle and got a BFP. She's now over half way through her pregnancy with a healthy baby boy. I say if your RE is giving you the all clear, then go for it. As long as your emotionally ready. DH and I decided to wait a few months before trying again because we were emotionally scarred from the whole ordeal. I don't think going to the ER helped. It was quite scary.

I'm so sorry you're suffering this. The good news is, from all I've read, you're RE is giving you good advice. Since this is a chemical, I would say go for it and try again this cycle. Good luck!
