First MC - how long does it last?

Postby Birdie01 » Fri Apr 13, 2012 10:52 pm

Hi ladies,
Well yesterday my scan showed no heartbeat.
I'd started spotting on Thursday evening and the MC was imminent. Anyway after the scan the bleeding got heavier, then I passed what I think was the embryo and sack. That was is, his morning the bleeding is very light, like I'm finishing a period, is that even possible? I thought it would last a few days at least?

I don't suppose there is any hope after a short bleed? :? I guess not, since I think I passed the important bits already.

Any thoughts are welcome?

So very sorry for your loss,

It is possible that you have passed the most important bits and will just have some minimal bleeding for a few days, but it is also possible what you passed was just clots, it can all look very similar with an early M/C. You may not bleed a lot more, but it doesn't sound like you have bled much, so it is possible it will start up again shortly.
I would keep an eye on it, if you don't bleed more it could mean retained tissue, that might need to be addressed. Are they going to be doing another U/S to confirm all is clear or at least monitoring your hcg levels to make sure they drop appropriately?

Thank you!

Yes I am going back on Friday next week for a check up to make sure I've cleared the uterus properly.

I took a long hard look in the loo (TMI) and saw it was grey tissue with a little red splodge on it. I'm sure it as the sac, it was bigger than any other clot I passed. Anyway, thanks for your reply, I'll keep an eye on the bleeding!

Congrats on your little one! :D

I'm so sorry for your loss. I don't have much advice, as I didn't miscarry naturally (had a D&C). But I just wanted to let you know that you are in my thoughts.

Birdie - Sorry to see you on this side as I was in the November group as well before my m/c.

I have read a lot on bleeding after a miscarriage as I bled for 21 days straight and my doctor did not seem concerned. She says that everyone is different- for some it is very quick but others it takes longer.

I will say that my bleeding slowed to spotting and then picked back up after a few days. (this happened several times for me)

I saw your post in the November group and want to say that I like your attitude. I am trying to feel the same - at least I know I can get pregnant now but honestly some days I still very sad that this ended the way it did.

Know you are in my thoughts.

Thanks Bean! :)

I totally understand why you would still be upset, I imagine there will never be a time when we won't cry, just talking about it brings me to tears!

I thought the bleeding was finished but as you said, it slowed down and just when I thought it was over, it started all over again!

Well, I hope we both get our sticky little beans soon! I'm not giving up, like I said, this little bean was sent to give us hope, because since we started charting and timing BD this was the first BFP that we had, so now we know it's possible. :)

I believe in my heart that it's not over, no matter how 'over' it feels right now!

So sorry to hear of your loss Birdie :( I agree w/ you that this is something that of course is unbelieveably sad, but it also gives hope. I had 2 "chemical" pregnancies while ttc #2 so I wasn't nearly as far along as you, both under 6 weeks, but they did give me hope and I am a fighter and it just kicked me and my DH into overdrive. Getting right back on the horse, so to speak, was really helpful too. We never waited a cycle to try and after my last chemical, we got our sticky bean and I am now almost 16 weeks! W/ my chemicals the bleeding lasted a couple days longer than AF for me. I will be watching for your next BFP!!! Sending you tons of babydust.

Thank you Mari and Orionslight! :)

Sorry to hear of your losses too Mari. We are definitely not waiting around for a cycle to try again, i have seen so many ladies have an MC then get a sticky bean again the following cycle, the hormones are still raging and I am going to take full advantage of that! Just want the MC to hurry and finish already! This morning seems like its much lighter but not quite finished just yet! I hope it's done by Thursday cos my follow up scan is friday...

Thank you all for the love and support! I love this forum! :hb:

Birdie, I know youve got a few answers but the doctor told me yesterday I should bleed about I week. I hope shes right! Today is day three. I love that you said it was sent to give you hope. It totally suits my situation as we'd been trying for 3 years and doc says any pregnancy is a good sign. I hope for our take home babies all around!

Oh no Jagger! I'm so sorry for your loss! I finished bleeding on day 7 including spotting. I'm so sorry to hear about your MC! :hugs: your Dr is right, any pregnancy is a good one.

I just can't believe how many of us left the November boards!
Sorry Hun, I wish you and your DH as much peace as soon as possible!
