questions about cytotec

Postby ekkotack » Fri Mar 28, 2014 5:46 am

Hi Ladies,
I just found out i have another blighted ovum. With my first, last fall, I went in to natural miscarriage eventually had a d&c. This time I've opted to take Cytotec (misoprostol) at home. I would like to hear from those who have taken it. What dose did you take? Orally or vaginally? I have a script for 200 mg 3 x day for 3 days, but Dr said I could double up on the pills if I wanted to. And then how long after your first dose did you start cramping/bleeding? Thanks for any help you can provide!

Hi there. I have a blog-style experience of taking Misoprostol if you'd like. It's on another board though so you'll have to message me for the link.
I took 2 doses of 800mcg misoprostol vaginally. The doses were 24 hours apart.
I started cramping 30 mins later but had no major bleeding until hour 18. This was the worst part. It was 3am and I had the most painful cramps that woke me up. I spent the next hour on the toilet bleeding and cramping. I passed everything during that time.
After the second dose at hour 24 I had minimal cramping and not very much blood flow. Keep in mind I spent the entire time in bed watching movies with my DH. I wasn't up moving around.
I am on day 51 post using the pills and think that I may have my first AF. (Nurse will confirm today)

Just a quick update. I'm on day 51 post using the pills and I am still bleeding from the MC. HCG levels came back too high to be AF.

They won't do a D&C because I basically have no tissue left. I just won't stop bleeding. So now I wait for 2 more weeks for blood work.

Shoot that stinks! I'm so sorry you have to go through it. I chose the cytotec this time basically because I don't have the $2,500 I would have to pay for my insurance deductible for the hospital D&C, so i'm taking a gamble on this route which will cost me nothing if it goes right.

I took 400 oral (stuck them in my cheek for 30 minutes before swallowing any remaining residue). The cramping started about 1 hour after I started the Cytotec and the cramping got stedily worse for about an hour before the big cramps started with the heavy bleeding, after about 15 minutes of the big cramps it slowed down and the cramping was back to a 4/10 or so definatly bearable. If you were given a script for a painkiller take it early, better to be comfortable than wishing you took it. Water, comfy clothes, and hot packs were a plus, and my husband decided to grab some baby wipes OMG what an amazing idea from him, trust me tp only does so much and gets pretty aggravating to use after your 10th trip in an hour to the bathroom. It was great to have the wipes on hand, otherwise I would have tried to shower a hundred times in 24 hours, something about cleaning up a bit was nice and made me feel much better.

Thank you ladies, for all the advice and tips!! I'm a little nervous, but at the same time I just want this to be done with so we can move on. I feel a little guilty for saying that.....don't know why though.....

Feeling guilty is just part of the grieving process. No need to know why. :)
