'Recurrent Pregnancy Loss' Work Up / Testing?

Postby MissClaire » Tue Mar 17, 2015 4:52 am

Hi Ladies
After our second early miscarriage, we are being sent for a full recurrent pregnancy loss workup - this apparently includes karyotype genetic testing, autoimmune testing etc.

I'm so scared ! if there anyone else out there who has had this testing done after miscarriages ? if so, what was the outcome ?

Thanks in advance - thank heavens for the support of these online groups - so often it feels like I'm completely alone - these forums remind me Im not : )

I'm in the middle of the same work up, just waiting for the results now. I had the sonohysterogram yesterday but that was normal. The only thing I have heard so far is they had me do more bloodwork due to elevated thyroid levels. Haven't heard the results of that yet. It sucks waiting for 2 months for the genetic testing too. In the meantime they gave me progesterone, folic acid and baby aspirin. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply Ndonalds : )
We've had all the blood drawn so just waiting for the results now - it's tough, the results could mean such a broad range of treatments - from simple aspirin, to steroid therapy, to necessary IVF : / or, in apparently 50% of cases, all the tests could come back normal and we are left with nothing to go on! gah !
We have decided to keep trying while we wait for the test results... and to switch donors (we're using frozen donor sperm)

Id love to hear if anyone one else out there actually got relevant results from this testing that helped them have a healthy baby : )

I had the barrage of testing done and they didn't find anything until my hsg. The RE found that I had a septum in my uterus that was removed last August. Are you having any difficulty conceiving or is it just staying pregnant that's the problem. For me, I could get pregnant, but always lost it around 7 weeks. I'm now pregnant and have made it further than ever. I'm only 8 1/2 weeks, but still it's encouraging. If they don't find anything with the blood work, see if they can do an hsg to check for any structural abnormalities.

Good luck! I hope you get some answers.

Thanks for the reply Meggles828 - and CONGRATS ! 8 1/2 weeks is really promising : )
I've had an HSG and a 3d ultrasound - so we've more or less ruled out anatomical uterine issues... but having had 2 D&Cs in a year my Dr is suggesting I have a hysteroscopy to rule out scar tissue... everything looks completely normal on all scans...

Yes, my issue is staying pregnant; I have a million eggs, great hormone panel - everything that's meant to be low is very low, and everything that should be high is through the roof : ) uterine lining is always thick and trilaminar at ovulation and IUI, and I never have any spotting or luteal phase issues... I'm not taking femara 2.5 for days 3 - 7 (in hopes of shortening my cycle and improving egg quality - apparently the earlier you ovulate the better ? ) I also take progesterone to support luteal phase...

I've gotten pregnant twice - miscarried at about 6 weeks both times (one was missed, likely hung on because of the progesterone maintaining the placenta ? the other I started bleeding after HSG started dropping fast...)

I'm SO scared the genetic testing will come back with some horrific issues that means my millions of eggs are useless : /

Did you ladies go through a fertility specialist or your obgyn for the workup? I'm currently on my 3rd loss - my second one in two months (after waiting a cycle). Thanks.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss...I just went through a lost yesterday and will most likely go through the same testing you're going through as well. I hope your results come back and gets you some answers. Thinking of you.
