what are the chances of a healthy third prengancy

Postby lacey191 » Sat Aug 25, 2007 4:08 pm

 does anyone know and actualy statistic on this,
Seems like they say after 2 somthing is wrong,
I just had my second miscarriage but unlike my first this one had a h/b until it was 10 weeks, and i was also wondering that pregnancy was a fratarnal twin prengnacy so what I am wondering is, my first was a blighted ovum, my second was a "freak accident", because the doctor thinks the baby cut of oxygen and nutrients to the 2nd baby, so should I concider testing or wait for a poss. third preg.
How many of you waited what were your results ect.
and how many of you had testing after #2 or 3 and what did they find if anything??
This would be helpful thank you, you are my lifeline.

Hi there,

I'm not sure what the actual statistics are but I tended not to pay any attention to them. The reason being, I think I hear the 5-15% number of pregnancies thrown around a lot. But after my first I was already at 50% of MY pregnancy m/c, after the second I was at 66% of MY pregnancies m/c. For those who have never carried to term they are at a 100% m/c rate for their pregnancies. The "risk" percentages really didn't seem to impress or scare me either way, I just took each pregnancy as it was dealt to me.

Your m/c sound very similar to mine. My first m/c the baby never had a hb. My second m/c we saw the hb at 8 weeks. The same day I actually lost the baby.

I did push for testing after my second m/c we were going to start but I ended up getting a new job and moving to a new state while we were waiting for me to cycle again. I got pregnant again before I found a new doctor and so far this pregnancy has been going perfectly.

I would definatley push for testing now if you feel it is right for you. Follow what your gut is telling you, wether that's to push for testing now or give it one more try....

I had an early mc at around 5.5 weeks. After that I got preggo again and we saw a HB at 7 weeks but the baby was measuring small. A week later the baby had passed and I had a D&C. I had all the testing done. I think they took like 15 vials of blood. My doctor and the RE both said that it was just bad luck. I guess they were right because all my tests came back normal and so far this pregnancy has been totally fine.

Hi Lacey

I know how heartbreaking it is to have m/c.. I have suffered 4 in the last 7 years... My last one was Dec 06, after this I went for the testing and the Dr's came back saying that I am healthy and their is no reason why I should be m/c.

This is now my 5th pg, and I am the furthest I have ever been! After months of sheer terror, and being tooo scared to even talk about the baby I am now accepting that I am pregnant.. I have still not bought anything for the baby yet tho, feel like something will go wrong if I do. Up to now everything is going well with me and the pg.. Even tho the Dr's could not find any reasons for m/c they have had me on Baby Asprin, which I think may of helped?

I am sharing my story just so you know, to keep on battling.. You will get there in the end. I know you are hurting at the moment and I understand how confused and desperate you may feel.. Let your heart repair itself and get your strength together to help you face the journey ahead.

I'm so sorry about your losses. I've had two m/c in 2007. First, I had an early m/c naturally at 5 weeks. My second m/c required a D&C at 8 1/2 weeks. We never heard a heartbeat and it appeared the baby never developed properly. My doctor was ready and willing to let me undergo testing, but she was fairly certain that it was extraordinarily bad luck (and not something wrong with me) since I had one live birth, my DD, nearly 5 years ago. That's primarily why I continued TTC as soon as I could. My first TTC cycle after my second m/c, I learned I was pg again. I'm nearly 16 weeks (the furthest I've been--other than my DD) and all is going well so far. I'd say do whatever you feel is best for you based on the advice your doctor is giving you and what's in your heart. Testing now may ease your mind when you're pg again because you know your test results were fine. Best of luck to you!

Hey there, just wanted to pop in and say that this is my third pregnancy and it is going well. I lost a baby at six weeks and one at ten after hearing the heartbeat at eight. I did push for all the testing and they found nothing to be wrong. My doctor said that the statistics do not go up until after three. It will happen for you, hang in there, I know how hard it is.

Thanks for all the positive replies on this thread. Just stopped by and it is very encouraging. I've had 2 m/c's since Sept '06 and become very pessimistic at times. I often think that when/if I get pregnant again I will just be waiting to have my 3rd m/c. I love seeing all the pregnancies progressing into the 2nd and 3rd trimesters after 2 or more losses...gives the rest of us waiting for our bfp some hope to a happy ending. Congrats everyone!

I've only had one..but they did testing after that one(because that's what they do after DandC's here) and found a chromosome problem...but no matter what they found i still didn't statistically have a greater chance of any more miscarriages.. your risks go up slightly from what I've heard after two but not that much.. but it still frustrates me with terms like 'bad luck' and 'pure chance' thrown in obviously by medical people who don't realise how heartless it sounds!! I'm almost 25 weeks and so far everything ok..but i did have to wait 4 months to be allowed to try again..

i had testing after mc #2. came back that dh and i both have mthfr mutation which has been linked to idiopathic recurrent m/c. i read somewhere that over 90% of m/c'ied fetuses that are tested have mthfr mutations. so i guess a fetus inheriting the mthfr mutation from the mother and father can't develope properly??

i also find myself becoming more and more pessimistic these days. i think why try? if i were to ever get another bfp should i buy a baby blanket or find a good psychiatrist and get a bag of super maxi's??

I'm pregnant for the third time after two m/c. My first m/c was last fall at about 4 weeks. My second was in February at 8 weeks. W/my second I saw the heartbeat at about 6 or 7 weeks. I'm really scared of loosing this one as well.

The hospital I go to usually tests for recurrent miscarriages after 3. Because of my age (35) though they were going to test after my second one. However, my insurance does not cover infertility and will not cover any testing related to miscarriages, so I wasn't able to get tested.

I'm really happy to see so many women here past the second trimester after 2 m/c. It really gives me some hope.

Hi, I m/c at 5wks 1st preg. and at 8wks 2nd preg., after seeing HB also. My doctor did offer and I was tested (also about 15 vials!) after the 2nd loss. They found nothing. I am however on a baby aspirin a day and will start progesterone immediately upon getting next BFP. We have been ttc agian since August and are waiting for that next BFP. Good luck to the rest of you as well.
