I have never taken Metformin, but I do know that GI upset is VERY common for the first few months on this drug. Pregnancy rates do increase also for women with PCOS, however only if you are insulin resistant from what I understand. The insulin fluctuation can cause some of the cysts to stay on the ovaries, as well as other homones that are out of whack with PCOS. I opted to not take Metformin due to s/x but many women take it and fall pregnant.

My only symptom of metformin is diarrhea. I've been taking met for a while, but still get it. It was extremely bad when I first started taking it. I mean, run to the bathroom and almost not make it bad. But that only lasted for a couple of weeks and it usually only happened once a day. It still sounds bad... and it wasn't pleasant, but it was manageable :)

I missed one b/c pill in 2003 and had my daughter Then me and Dh tried in 2007 and after oNe month we were preggo but sadly had a 2nd trimester loss. THEN we tried for 18 months with nothing...then was DX with PCOS in January of 2009. (I had gained about 50lbs from 2003 to 2009) Then we did clomid and got preggo on the 3rd try, then we miscarried. Then I decided to lose weight and after about 10-12 lbs we got our BFP naturally without charting or using OPKS.

Dont give up hope, it can happen and now that you have a diagnosis it can only get better from here...

BTW I am NOT insulin resistant but I asked to be put on metformin(850mg once daily) and once I started I started losing weight and got our BFP (before I went 90 days without a period!) Just an FYI. (also OPKS and Clear Blue fertility monitor didnt work. i got false positives for 8 months)

I am sooo sorry I remember those days of hating pregnant women and being jealous of everyone who could get pregnant so easy. I really gave up hope and didnt think God wanted me and DH to have a baby for some reason. It has been 3 years of ttc next month and I am 14 weeks prego today :) DONT GIVE UP!!!!!!! Try and focus on something, once I started working out I was obsessed with seeing the lbs drop every week and it was something i could CONTROL so it helped with not thinking about trying for a baby and then BAM 10 lbs down and a BFP :) Praying for you...keep in touch!
